Is there a point at which Prem Rugby / RFU just acknowledges that major structural change is required, and if so, how close are we and what would you want them to do?
I don't really follow club rugby any more, but am interested to hear thoughts from those that do. From the outside it just seems like this can't possibly go on and we must be close to a tipping point.

There's an overhaul planned for 2024/25 but who knows what form that will take

Apparently Irish missed their 16:00 deadline, and their suspension from the Premiership will be announced at 19:00.

I'll second that, although Bath are rumoured to be interested in him.
Hopefully Quins won't be tempted to sign Top Shagger as a replacement for Smith, should those whispers prove to be true.

Are there any cap-based national eligibility rules that prevent young English players going to France? (E.g. you can't play abroad until you've 30 caps or some such)

You cant ply for england if you don’t play in the English league generally, RFU has a deal with the premiership to release squad players when required which they don’t have with any other league. There’s special dispensation made for players of folded teams up until the World Cup but beyond that they’ll be ineligible

I appreciate the above may be somewhat fanciful in the detail but that's how it would work?

I suspect soon enough only France, Ireland and New Zealand will bother with the home residency rules.
Wales will definitely drop theirs as well.

A sad day for London Irish, and for the Premiership in general.
Three top-flight English clubs gone within the space of a single season - Wasps were the biggest name, but (and I say this as an erstwhile Wasps fan) Warriors and Irish are every bit as big a loss to the domestic game, if not more so.
Both great clubs, with history and supporters to match.
This entire situation sucks.

What are the league's plans? It's clear it's horribly broken. And so wrong. So much history gone. Hopefully the clubs can be reborn as amateurs.

They don't seem to be actually dropping top line salaries though. If Finn's salary at Bath is anywhere near the rumours.
I think they'll end up chopping a lot of mid rankers. club stalwarts, lads with a few international caps in the past, injury prone genius players etc. Anyone on above average salary that's not your stars will get replaced with cheaper 21 year olds.

4 looseheads, 1 lock, 3 SHs two of which won't make the tournament, 1 FH.
Seems a bit pointless to me.

Much as I doubt it'll happen, I'd love to see Care make the RWC squad.

Borthwicks camp will be a full week of nothing but lineout drills, you need a load of props to rotate lifting the locks

You could play 15 clones of Dan Cole and still be basically fine. On another note. Every Wales announcement basically has me going "I am sustained by your suffering" vampire style.

We keep getting beaten by bloody Scotland*. I'm hardly confident that we'll exit the group comfortably. *just messing - but as you should know well enough, underestimate Japan at your peril

From my point of view the one team we've not really worked out how to turnover is Ireland for some reason. So we're fucked. Where are you playing Japan? Not excuses but probably a failure in training. That one time we lost to Japan the humidity seemed so bad the team were bright red 30 minutes in. So South of France Vs North if France could make a massive difference.

Not sure where we're playing them
Their prep time was massive, they were together as a squad for something like 3 months? No other team gets to build like that ahead of a WC. And at least you gave them a game, they straight up pulled Ireland's pants down and sent them back to their mum in tears 😃 Genuinely one of my favourite WC games.

Oh yeah I get that. I mostly blame this on Scotland training as a) the occasion got the better of them and b) they appeared to not have practised enough in insane humidity like after that typhoon. Plus Japan got so psyched up for that occasion it was almost irresistible.
Otherwise we mostly played Japan in summer or autumn internationals and never did anything than win comfortably (Scotland being shitter have had to do summer tours of Japan + 1 game against Italy in Singapore for no fucking reason), even putting on a load of first cappers.
But also under Toonie. We lost to the USA in Houston Texas during a summer tour, as again 30 minutes in Houston in July and they were FUCKED. Also to Fiji in Fiji under similar circumstances. Invite any of these teams to Murrayfield in the winter and it wouldn't even be a contest.
I'm just sympathetic as it's gone over 30C here in London recently and I'm almost entirely made of sweat now.

Just embrace the fuck it we can score more tries than you ethos. May not win but you can just enjoy life and be thankful you're not the relentless misery of Saracens or Leinster. *spit*
