Can't decide if I wasn't to be pleased that Bortho has adapted his approach, or worried that selecting Farrell as captain before dropping him to the bench 3 games later shows how clueless he is

Also a lot of chopping and changing this week: Ford in then out; Smith out then in…

Personally, I see the ability to change your mind when presented with new information as a strength. It's promising that Borthwick is updating his opinions based on performances.
It's more of an issue in politics than sport but there are a lot of parallels where attitudes are unhealthy. I blame Thatcher's speech. Our right-wing media has trained us to think that doing a U-turn is proof of incompetence rather than merely recognising that a better route is available. Same goes for admitting mistakes, that's not weakness, that's strength.
We've got to let people make the decisions they think are best without fear of it undermining them. I'd argue continuing with stuff that isn't working because you are totally convinced that your emotional/gut decisions are brilliant, is a much bigger issue.
This isn't to say I'm convinced he's the right guy, but let's give him a proper chance first. He's allowed to get stuff wrong so long as he learns and adapts.

Agreed, muddyfunster - while I too am unconvinced that Borthwick is the right man for the job, I'm encouraged by the fact that he has already shown more flexibility (and less intransigence) than Jones did in the entirety of his tenure.

The other thing may have been that Farrell has been such a well-established cornerstone of the England team that the dynamics he inherited meant it would've been difficult to immediately move away from him.
Rather like Ten Haag giving Ronaldo the chance to succeed (but more likely fail) before moving on.

I'd agree with that too, were it not for the fact that he made Farrell captain - sure, keep him in the team for a while on the grounds you mention, but naming him captain seemed self-defeating on Borthwick's part. He painted himself into a corner from the get-go.
It was especially daft seeing as even Jones had moved away from having Farrell as captain, if memory serves, in favour of Courtney Lawes.

I've been thinking they should switch the Six Nations over to World Cup pools rules. If 2 teams are equal on points you decide who won based on their head to head match before points difference (when there's a draw or 3 teams who all beat one another). Thoughts?

I think Georgia should be brought in somehow, maybe split to 2 divisions. But to be honest, I can't think of a way to do it well.

Oh I didn't mean relegation. I was more thinking if Wales and Italy both end up on 1 win somehow, whoever wins the Wales Italy game should come above the other regardless of points difference.

If they can get someone sent off and one of North or Halfpenny get concussed I've got a line on my Wales bingo card

Well that was rubbish. Wales looked extremely average bordering on actual shite for long periods of time, just Italy somehow dug deep enough to still shit the bed anyway.

It was fully operational Warrenball though, well almost.
Defend like belligerent pains in the arse, drag the game down to an arm wrestle as much as possible, then have at least 1 magical winger on the pitch to pounce on any mistakes. There must be no attacking shape at any fucking point.

Why the fuck are England trying to keep the ball in play with quick lineouts? It is not working well.

Being destroyed at home in a big game against a middling French team. They have no chance in the World Cup.

The French have been close to perfect but we've been awful.
Back to the Johnson era of penalty after penalty after penalty. Mistake after mistake after mistake. Total crap. Impossible to be competitive if you make so many errors.

I was late to put this on as I was at a football match but I kinda wish I hadn't bothered, this is dreadful from England.

Why the fuck are England trying to keep the ball in play with quick lineouts? It is not working well. That's the least of our worries tbh. I dunno it's indicative. The English forwards are not mobile or savy enough to resource the breakdown properly at the minute, and nobody seems to have bothered training the backs to do it. They also can't pass the ball wide quick enough when something is on without it getting shovelled through several farmers hands. So why the fuck would you attempt to play broken field rugby where you'll end up with mis-matches and get fucked at the ruck, but you're also not going to get the ball where it's needed to counter attack from it. Only other reason to maintain high ball in play is to try tire out the French, but that doesn't seem like it'll get anyone anywhere (especially as England have been the ones to drop off in previous games). The lineout and scrum are 2 of the only places England can eke out an advantage so just fucking play trench warfare rugby.
