Cockers is interim HC. I knew this would happen because it's what I least wanted (after Wales eliminated the Gatland option for us).

I wonder if that means Borthwick will see out the season with Leicester before taking over at Twickenham?

Thank goodness. Was surprised that his win percentage is the best of any coach though. He took them to 18 wins in a row at one point...

In hindsight, that was largely the 'dead cat bounce' combined with Lancaster's squad finally coming good, albeit too late to save his job.
I won't deny that Jones played his part, but it was by no means his achievement alone.

His 18 wins was helped by some awful home nations and French teams who were rebuilding after the WC, and no matches against NZ until 30 odd games in. Series win away at Aus was a good result though

SA were also shunt during that period, until they appointed Rassie in mid 2018

Series win away at Aus was a good result though I think people are a little harsh on him. He did great for Japan and was very successful for a spell for England. I think he has a great innovative game that changes everything and makes his team successful. Until people learn that game and how to close it down, then he just runs out of ideas. I do think he was quite transformative at the time.

Understood, kind sir - I just wished to provide a bit of (admittedly biased) context, is all!

Not often that I agree with this guy, but I think he's 100% correct here:

I don't watch enough club rugby to propose a replacement but I'm pleased Jones is gone. He did brilliantly in his first couple of years but it's been obvious for too long now that he wasn't getting the most out of the players. Definitely time for someone else to have a go.

I don't think I want any of the Premiership coaches (including Borthwick) to take over. Baxter only knows one way, McCall is rooted at Sarries, Sanderson/Boyd have much more to prove, Borthwick's second season is not going well and so on*
*I've run out of coaches I can name off the top of my head - Quins don't technically have one.
Cockerill is alarming, given that he's the current forwards coach, and the pack was beaten to death by the Boks, while constantly conceding every stupid pen in the book against everyone else for the entire year. The pack (other than perhaps J Hill) are not that unintelligent at their clubs and makes me suspect it's a coaching issue somewhere along the line.

The pack have been giving away daft pens for years. Some of that may be rule changes/different refereeing approaches etc but it always seems like they never learn. Maybe other supporters say the same though.

That's very true.
Happy to be told I'm wrong here - we're consistently higher on pens, win or lose, in the last 3 years

Totally agree.
My initial sense of enthusiasm at Mad Eddie's long-overdue departure was almost immediately tempered by the realisation that if the 57 old farts have their way, nothing much will change - Cockerill is a conservative caretaker, Borthwick would (will?) be a conservative full-time option, and both are tainted by their histories with Jones.

Cell C Sharks become the first South African team to compete in Europe, and they're making life difficult for Quins right now.

Sinfield coming over with him could be the real game changer

Is Sinfield that good a coach? (Genuine question - aside from the astonishing feats he has performed in aid of MND research, I know almost nothing about him.)

He seems to be a cracking defence coach, probably the closest we’ll get to Edwards. Discipline is the main thing we’re severely lacking imo

Leicester fans are almost as upset about Sinfield leaving as Borthwick, which is encouraging.

Tigs fans seem to be pretty disappointed overall, which one can understand - Borthwick did some fine work there, whatever his shortcomings as a coach may be.
I also don't blame them for being less than enthused at the prospect of having Richard Wigglesworth as a caretaker coach, especially how things panned out with Geordan Murphy!

a) Agreed, but I can't see the RFU punishing their golden boy with the 6N fast approaching.
b) He's due back soon, I believe; then again, so is Marcus Smith.

Is Bortho as keen on Farrell as the last few coaches though

Given how key Ford was to Leicester's title, and that Nick Evans is signed up to coach the attack for the 6N, we aren't likely to be seeing him at 10 anytime soon. We still don't have an actual 12 that's played a test, however

Good question!
My guess? Yes, he is - he's a Saracens old boy, after all, and acted as understudy to both Lancaster and Jones - but I suppose we'll find out soon enough.
