Yeah don't block him. He's a piece of fucking piss. Just stand middle to long range, bait his attack, roll under, couple of hits, back off, rinse and repeat. Watch out for his AoE as it's got a longer reach than you'd think and is capable of OHK you. I love you. Did him first time listening to this advice. Only needed two heals right near the start. I was thinking on the way up the lift how moody I was going to be if I kept dying with this stupid boss run I'd be repeating.

Lol, my advice normally sucks so that's a turn up for the books.

Yeah I wouldn't block him, he's got a brutal grab attack that I think is unblockable and, just as a special treat, removes a soul level from you Yeah when that grab happened, being pissed off was an...understatement.

Congrats. I think Demon's Souls is a tad easier than other From games (and a bit shorter), but still a fair few bits that are a bit of a slog and an achievement to finish it.
I remember I started a second game doing a magic build and I should really go back to that. Was a disappointing to see that there isn't much optional content to explore though. With the world tendancy mechanic you would think there was quite a bit hidden away.

It's a neat idea, just poorly executed.

Fair enough. Well there's always that to piss about with if you ever wanted to do more. And or use them for spells/miracles

I'll maybe never play it again. Borrowing the ps5 off my brother to play this and Ragnarok. Can't see me buying a ps5 when game pass has more games than I have time for.

I remember I started a second game doing a magic build and I should really go back to that. Was a disappointing to see that there isn't much optional content to explore though. With the world tendancy mechanic you would think there was quite a bit hidden away. Eh, I don't know, it's one of the more satisfying games I've played in regard to extra content and secrets which are fully integrated with the base game and complementary to the mechanics. Like, you can only get certain weapons at certain world tendencies, and then that feeds back into mini quests given by NPCs, and results in harder fights with rewards like new weapons or upgrade materials.
The platinum trophy is one of the best I've seen, because it makes you engage with all of the game's content, even down to killing those silly colourless demons you see on the sides of buildings. It takes three and a half playthroughs though, and you're obviously retreading a lot of the same ground with having to kill all of the normal bosses. And you really have to use a guide, or you'd spend 1000 hours dicking around.
Not to mention the character tendency stuff It's a neat idea, just poorly executed. I suppose, in that it's not even clear what shade of black and white world tendency you're in, and you really have to use a guide to understand it, so yeah. I remember having to check the stats on weapons (ie some weapons do X amount of damage based on world tendency) to see what state the world was in! But I loved all the back and forth trying to get the weapons, rings etc.

To be fair, it's a bit of an artefact now. Who has time for those long boss runs after Elden Ring?

Sounds like you could finish Demon's Souls about 5 times in the time it takes to play Elden Ring

Maybe items and weapons you can only get with certain world tendency, but I was expecting there to be whole areas and optionally bosses. Later From games have plenty of places that you don't need to go to and are easily missed. Hearing about world tendency before playing the remaster, I was expecting a Cainhurst type of place or two, at least a couple of hidden bosses. Probably for the better that nothing like that is tied in with the mechanic though. I didn't engage at all with it when I played, but seemed needlessly fiddly and obfuscated.

Probably also worth bearing in mind that quite a few people missed out on Demon's originally, and have been treated to all the subsequent games since then with all their improvements (half of which have been fans clamouring for them) - so to go back to a faithful remaster is going to be a bit jarring. It was their first jaunt out really.
There are areas that you have to unlock via tendency, but agreed, they're not 'whole areas', more just a little snipped of an area that's locked until you meet the tendency requirements.
If it wasn't for this game, you wouldn't have Elden ring!

I had never played any of them before, so my first was PS5 Demon Souls remaster. And I thought it was amazing.
Now 150 hours into Elden Ring. Cant wait for PS5 remakes of the DarkSouls games, none of which I have ever played.

Yeah, in fairness it's all just low key character-based stuff kinda like Yurt and Mephistopheles, but still very cool for all that. I don't think Yurt was tied to tendency, but that was so cool, thinking back on it. Why are all these dead guys turning up in the Nexus?

Haha yeah, it's a nice twist. I can't think of many other games where an NPC that YOU helped ends up killing vital NPCs that YOU need Never mind the 'tasks' you need to do for Mephistopheles

Tbf there are some big hidden areas that open up, like that side bit with all the phantoms at the start in 1-1

Yeah, that's quite a big one. I think it's mainly the ones that have specific weapons that are in small areas. Like the Istarelle and the dragon bone smasher etc. Totally forgot about that area in 1-1. That's Rob's favourite area, isn't it Rob?

I'd be moist for a Bloodborne remake which is vastly more likely than anything dark souls as that's the other Sony exclusive.
