It’s no where near as unnerving in the remake. It’s almost jolly in comparison CORRECT. Remaster was really disappointing for me. The original shit me right up. Wheras I'm the weirdo that loves the new version over the old version.
I don't have the same attachment to DeS that others do mind you. I only went in to it after DS2 when I'd run out of souls to play (in the lull between DS2 and Bloodborne / DS3). Personally I'm of the view that the new version is better in every conceivable way but that's me for you, I'm a cunt.

It's probably my only gripe with the remaster. I might have built it up in my head too much before stepping into the level, but there was no terror, too much light and I ended up grumpy about it.
Everything else was bang on, for me

Well Demon's was my first and I prefer the remake. They made it look exactly like it did in my head.
I still found 3-1 unsettling, even though I knew what to expect.

Hang on, if you've done the dragon god - have you died in human form at all in world 2? Because if you have done all 3 world 2 bosses and haven't died in human form (doesn't matter about dying in soul form), you should now have pure white world tendency. Which means, if you go back to 2-3, and run down the passageway, instead of turning right where you'd normally do the dragon, look left and you should be able to access an item that was previously inaccessible - which is the dragon bone smasher |

Might be worth a laugh Unfortunately, it might just be our memory of it, because I've had a look on my youtube channel and it's not there  There's one where I'm doing the crystal lizard nest, so it definitely has my entire history of vids, but it looks like I didn't upload it. In fact, did the PS3 even do that "records you for the last 20 minutes" thing where you could upload them? Maybe we're getting old Rob and our memories are fading! |

I swear so many sections of this game are fully bs just there to fuck you off. Dark souls had the o&s boss that was pure bs but this has many many areas that are just straight up bs, well from the view of a pure barbarian..

Yeah ds2 Mainly how each level ends up a ridiculous boss run. Thankfully I beat most bosses first or second attempt but flame lurker, tower knight, man eater and now old king I'm doing multiple times and there's just no need for it to be this annoying before I can fight them again. Also being the first game understandably it's not as polished and has lots of little annoying things that were improved in their later games. It's still a great game and amazing for their first attempt, the atmosphere is incredible and the levels all have their own unique feel to them. There's just way too many things in place just to fuck you off that were ironed out later. Not sure where I'd place it for difficulty, it's hard like all of them but I never really struggled on a level. At first 2-1 and 2-2 were a pain due to my weapons. 5-1 was annoying because of the two large club goblin things right at the end. The bosses were mostly fun throughout. Man eater was total bs as melee. |

Yeah I wouldn't block him, he's got a brutal grab attack that I think is unblockable and, just as a special treat, removes a soul level from you

Yeah don't block him. He's a piece of fucking piss. Just stand middle to long range, bait his attack, roll under, couple of hits, back off, rinse and repeat. Watch out for his AoE as it's got a longer reach than you'd think and is capable of OHK you.

I love Demon's Souls to bits, particularly this remake, but I can't argue that it's chock full of shit that I'm thankful they either improved on or ditched for their subsequent games. |
