My thoughts exactly. I know it's draped in shadow, but on a decent tv it looks amazing to me eyes.
Also, that pile up in Dead Space 3, I am pretty sure the vehicles were unmanned. They were HGVs transporting goods in a shipping lane, no? At least I think they were, which is why Isaac wasn't concerned at all. He's not a mass serial killer after all.

To be fair, I didn't outright say this, I only strongly implied it.
I could be wrong though. You all could have dodgy eyesight instead.

I enjoyed the Dead Space remake.
As for whether it "needs to exist," I'd say yes:
1) It gave those of us who only started gaming in the PS4/Xbone generation a chance to experience a legendary game; 2) It gave the franchise another chance after EA screwed the pooch first time around.
If the recent rumours are to be believed, Dead Space is still dead - the remake didn't sell well enough for EA's liking, so more remakes/Dead Space 4 are off the table - but it was worth a try!

I was really looking forward to a DS2 Remake, so I was bitterly disappointed by this news.
DS2 still looks and plays great though on Xbox and PC. Even my Steam Deck can push 1440p when hooked up to the TV whilst maintaining 60fps.

richyroo I would've really liked a Dead Space 2 remake as well. Unfortunately for me, that game looks set to remain stuck on PS3!

I like Dead Space 3. The first proper section after the opening is - for my money - the best Dead Space there is. All those derelicts orbiting the ice planet and you silently floating through space between them, going on board and seeing how fucked up they all are, the huge big moon in the background and not even realising the significance of it until much later in the game. It's fucking brilliant. The planet surface is less good but I don't hate it.
Me being as fucking obtuse as I am, would actually rate DS3 higher than DS2 and the flotilla bit even higher than DS1.

Honestly, I wish Motive had been able to remake the entire trilogy.

Yeah the whole ship graveyard was peak Dead Space. I loved that part of the game.
When I replayed DS3 last year I also bought the DLC which extends the ending while adding essential lore. I didn't realise just how essential it was to the series at the time. I cannot believe that they hid such an essential part of the story behind a paywall, was quite a shitty thing to do and probably contributed to some of the hate the game got at the time.

You can still play the actual legendary one on PC or Xbox and it completely failed on the second point, so doesn't need to exist by your own definition

There's no 'legendary' or 'proper' version of the game - both are valid, even if I didn't get on with the remake.
By that logic there's no need for the RE4 remake because the original is still superior and easy to buy on multiple formats.

Which still leaves PS4/PS5 owners shit outta luck.
Perhaps, but that didn't become apparent until after the remake had been released - hindsight = 20/20, and all that jazz.
Except that the remake gave me, and others in my position, a chance to play an excellent game that would otherwise have remained out of reach; it also gave a great series (by all accounts) a deserved second chance at life, even if it failed to capitalise thereupon.

Unpopular opinion - I think I don't get on with the DS remake because the original game is actually just average to good, not spectacular.
Characters are uninteresting, story is a bit bobbins, the 'lore' is some student-level sci-fi and the enemies get old fast (as does the 'take off their limbs' gimmick).
I think we were just starved of a great survival horror game after RE4 and lauded the first decent game to come along.

There kind of is a legendary and proper version as otherwise you're doing the original devs quite a disservice. The remakes (more so in the case of Dead Space) are reliant on so much of the work and creativity of the original game
Dead Space is an almost like for like remake using current tech and that's about it. They added some stuff here and there but nothing game changing
The RE2, 4 and 1 remakes have clearly been redesigned from the ground up and offer very different experiences. I'd still say RE4 remake is an amazing remake of a legendary game

Even if you think all of that, it still has an incredible atmosphere and sound design. There's also the HUD being part of his suit which is very cool from a design perspective
Personally really like the story and think the combat, enemy designs and setting are all great

They could have just ported the original to PS4

Sound design I'll give you but atmosphere? Not for me.
After seeing the enemies coming out of the same few vents time after time and pipes constantly bursting with steam it quickly loses any sense of tension. You know you're walking into a 'kill room' - it's as telegraphed as Devil May Cry or DOOM.
Silent Hill did away with the HUD a decade earlier. If anything the health bar on his back reminds me it's a game and works against immersion.

It's clever how they moved the HUD onto the suit. It's an action game so the HUD is more necessary than in Silent Hill. Just getting rid of it would have been a bad idea. They got rid of the HUD but still presented the player with all the information you would get with one
The other stuff is just a case of taste. There are definitely sections of the game that subvert the 'kill room'

I didn't think any of the RE remakes controlled overly well whilst we are moaning about beloved games. There are 3rd person games that feel a lot better to move and shoot in.

Aunty Treats I would've been fine with a straight port, but EA decided to go down a different route. If it was the remake or nothing - which was basically the case, to all intents and purposes - I'm glad we got the former, is all

I haven't finished it though.

What should we talk about instead? I mean there's talking about the merits and cons and there's complaining because one version of the game had the main character be exploded out of a ship from a different location than the remake. I'm always up for discussion but some of the stuff on here does border on the ridiculous. I do enjoy it though.
