I prefer Eternal to 2016, the movement of Eternal just means I can't go back to 2016 as it feels to slow. I think I spoke before how much of music game it feels like and how you can get really hypnotised by it, almost like a trance.

I'm close to abandoning Zelda tears of the kingdom. I have zero interest in looking around a room for things to use magic gunk to stick together to open a door of float above something or slide along. Or maybe have to look up to magic warp through a ceiling and watch a boring animation whilst I swim through rock or sticking a tree branch to a stone. Zzzz. Botw is one of my favourite games of all time as well.

I guess it makes more sense as a rhythm game.

Botw is one of my favourite games of all time as well. It might be worth sacking it off and seeing if it clicks next time you have a Zelda craving. I didn’t really care for the fusion ability until I understood it’s worth and the game doesn’t really communicate that very well. Once you fell a silver Bokoblin and fuse it’s horn to a weapon, it’s quite eye opening as to what you can achieve with weapon power and such. As for the other abilities, I do use ascend a lot, as somebody that goes looking for caves, but I don’t build much. It’s not essential all that often. At least outside of Shrines and Temples.

Sounds like we've got some grandads who can't remember buttons
I don't think Eternal is quite as strict as people are making out. I've never looked up what weapons I should be using against which enemies, I just use the ones that feel most useful, which is the same as the original Doom and Quake. Weapon switching has always been a big part of id shooters
I wouldn't really call it a rhythm game. There is a shooter that is literally that. Maybe some similarities to something like Devil May Cry, where you need to be familiar with your abilties and the enemies. It's quite difficult
I defo wouldn't call it bloated. Every weapon and ability is utilised constantly and everything is there at the press of a button

Just given up on It Takes Two as my other half can’t walk and look at the same time. It takes her roughly 5 goes to jump across a gap and I’ve ended up doing most of the harder sequences for her. The stag beetle mini boss was the final straw. After 30 minutes getting nowhere I’d had enough.

My wife had the same issue but clearly not as bad

Thats the problem. She likes it, but as her best gaming experience was gained playing Chuckie Egg, dual-stick control is beyond her. Any ideas on dual-stick training games for practicing with?

Thinking of abandoning Mana Spark, I've maxed out all weapons, skills and food so I've reached a ceiling now. Can only reach the third section a handful of times so struggling a bit. It is a bit moreish though as the first few sections are a cakewalk.

Gears Tactics This started off so good, it does not feel like "tacked on xcom game".But on the 3rd act in the desert, they add a lot of forced side missions (with artifical diffculty additions) to do the next story mission, which feels like unneeded padding. So been playing a little each week.
Then the real kick in the nuts is the crappy and broken end boss, it gets stuck on enemy turn or the game will lock up on series X or cloud. After googling it, not the only one and happens on PC ver it seems. Also its crap boss fight. Will watch the end of youtube
Fist forged in shadow torch I like metroidvania and this good reviews on ps4 or 5. Starts off fairly good then they take away your weapons which is a tired and boring trope in game design. Also the controls seem too clunky for some of the level design and enimies, it feels like UE3 game from 2010. Got to the mines and thought fuck this
thankfully both were on gamepass

I wasn't really enjoying FIST (oooer!) before the gear being taken away bit, so felt no shame in dropping it then. Stealth sections in metroidvanias can piss right off! (well, apart from Zero Mission...)

Ha! I’m also playing F.I.S.T. I think somebody posted about it on here yonks ago, but the combat is pretty poor. It’s all basic combos for the most part, but the difficulty is dictated by how many enemies get thrown at you at once. It’s not very well designed in that respect.
I did, however, enjoy both the stealth part where your weapons are taken away and the mines, which is pretty much just platforming.
Will I finish it or abandon it? It depends on how stubborn I feel about completing it. It looks fantastic, sounds awful and is generally quite frustrating and unrewarding to play.

Bramble The Mountain King
Starts off ok but the bosses get more and more shit and add in shit controls to aim and dodge attackes. Thanfully its not a long game, at the end boss and the devs need to go to some game design school.
The swedish mythology angle is good and its quite dark and messed up but means nothing if the game is shit to play
The game got good reviews, no idea why. Glad its gamepass as no money lost

Wolfenstein: The New Order: I played another hour or so today and it just kind of bores me unfortunately. The shooting is fine, the characters and dialogue are fine and the environments are a bit bland (though I like the German signs, warnings and such everywhere). I don't really have anything against it. Area transitions are jarring and the Perk system seems of little consequence.
I had a similar reaction to Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Ok shooter with somewhat boring environments and weak atmosphere and nothing that I really found particularly satisfying, memorable or fun.
Though I appreciate that the Nazis actually mostly talk German and how there is at least a little bit of variety in how they sound (dialect). I'm actually surprised how well this is done.

Bee Simulator (PS5)
Thought I'd have a crack at this as the trailer appealed to me in a weird way and it's free as part of the PS Plus Extra subscription. Unfortunately the trailer was not at all representative of the actual game, which seems to be aimed at children with a high tolerance for jank. You basically fly around a small open world following quest markers and doing one of about four different simplistic minigames. There's a little bit of educational stuff about bees and bee hives, as well as an admirable message about the importance of bees to our ecosystem and the dangers they face, but that's all ruined by the truly awful flight controls, unimaginative mechanics, twee characterisation and dreadful voice acting. Avoid!

Generation Zero does have the same sound issue I had with Cyberpunk except that in this case nothing has helped at all. I usually get about 5-10 minutes before the pretty much constant crackling shows up again. That unfortunately makes it unplayable for me. I'm reinstalling it, but I'd be surprised if that would do anything.

Felt exactly the same, very dark themes at least made it different. But once get past that just felt like a clunky indie platformer and frankly there are enough of those around.

Serious Sam siberian mayhem on seriesX well this is pants! I have never played a SS game, and I think I'm right in saying that the series has a great following, well not from me based on this one game. TBF I have started it as part of the daily gamepass quests, but even with that I'm not sure I will keep playing.

Haven't played Syberian Mayhem, but Serious Sam 4 (the game it's based upon) wasn't well received even by the fandom. If you want to give the series a proper chance, First Encounter and Second Encounter are the pinnacle for me. The HD versions are great too.

Being more brutal this year, so GTA VC (ps2 version, all music included) has been uninstalled from my PS5. How the feck did I complete this game on release! I struggled with the rc helecoptor mission, although I did complete that on the 4th attempt albeit with 1 second remaining. couple of missions later was the Diaz one, first part no problem, second part chase down and kill the dude on a motorbike, yeah get to fuck. Tried 3 times, and just can not control the bikes (and cars) in this game. I only really wanted to reply for the leading class soundtrack and talk radio stations, but luckily I do not have to play the game for that.

The ways it’s playing so far, Ghost if Tsushima.
I’d wanted to try it for ages so upgraded PS Plus. Maybe it’s because I’m playing Elden Ring but this is - after a few hours - pretty poor.
Way too much slow walking to investigate a stable, a map filled with icons, combat that feels more like a rhythm action game and horribly “light” combat system.
I think I’ll give it another hour or so before I bin it and try Returnal instead.

Returnal > Ghost, for sure; however, I thought the combat was the latter's best feature by a country mile. jeepers What is it you don't like about Ghost of Tsushima's combat system, out of interest?

combat that feels more like a rhythm action game and horribly “light” combat system. That was exactly my issue with it. Combat just felt like an extended QTE rather than an actual combat system. Was just a bit dull.

What Starchild said really - a QTE fighting system suns it up for me. I’ve been spoiled by Elden Ring, I think, where the combat feels both more fluid and more visceral. I get the sense that the challenge will increase by adding more enemies - esp archers - as the game progresses.
