I think the message is Bush, Obama, Trump or Biden US military policy changes very little in its application whatever the overtures from the White House. Yeah it's very easy and simplistic to put this all on one President, this is America foreign policy endlessly continuing the cycle. If you're going to be angry aim it at the system that perpetuates this horseshit. Plus our nation is no better.

Of course this is how they operate, this time around it’s a fuck up of immense proportion and it can only get worse.
9 people from the same family killed now as the vehicle targeted was full of explosives.. mission accomplished though so they’ll paper over that minor detail.

The only reason we (ie. the media) are paying attention to this suicide bombing and this drone strike, is because Afghanistan is already in the recent news cycle.
This has been happening for 20 years, and nobody cared. And that's from a conflict that *we're intimately involved in*; God help you if you're being fucked in a country where we're mostly not involved with the fucking (Remember Myanmar? People are still dying in protests there). They'd be lucky to get more than two weeks of media attention.
So yeah, it really sucks that bombings and killings happen. But it also sucks that they happened for 20 years in Afghanistan with little comment, and we're only having the "Wait... why were we in Afghanistan?" concern and debate now that we're leaving. Where was this hand-wringing before?!
(not meant to be an attack on anyone here, just a general comment about the general short attention span the media have for international stuff)

One big issue with the US blowing up civilians in foreign countries is that it sends a pretty strong signal. They are obviously OK with terror attacks as a tactic since they are using that tactics themselves.
Oh well, at least Biden has said america won't try to force other countries to change, and I think that is a win. For america and other countries alike. The one exception being ex Yugoslavia where outside meddling seem to have worked.

I would love to be proven wrong but Trump's deal to the taliban will bite the world in the arse in the coming years. Now they have american weapons and vehicles, the former afghan army left behind. Also that mono brow in that video clip in a few posts above, some hills have eyes inbred right there.
In other places of the world you have the putin regime, doing whatever they want and also china, allies as well. the ccp gives zero shits about the world. Fun times

That shit just makes me angry. Such a grotesque, hands-off, throwaway approach to peoples lives.
Impressive bit of journalism mind you.

It seems we(the Aussies) and the US have really managed to piss the French right off. The UK should be included in that but they just dismissed the Brits as 'fifth wheel' and 'bit players'.

It's heading towards election season here in France, so it's not necessarily surprising that the French are making some very vocal and visible displays of their anger. Still, they've every right to be incensed: absolutely shoddy behaviour between allies and an entirely deserved diplomatic disaster for the US and Australia. Also kudos to Scott Morrison for managing to negotiate a 'prospective deal' that will not result in any deliverables for Australia within the next decade whilst antagonizing the biggest allied power in the Indo-Pacific.
As for the fifth wheel: the current UK government, as always, just cementing our international reputation as snakes in the fucking grass.

I've started writing a post on the latest American terror bombing in Afghanistan a few times but I find they just turn into angry rants. Still, twenty fucking years of killing civilians and then capping it all off by leaving an impressive weapons cache in the hands of their enemies and killing ten innocent people.
FUCK!

Oh come now, it's hardly fair to argue that they should stop bombing people when the military budget is $730Billion a year. Everyone wants to play with their new toys.

Republicans block bill to raise debt ceiling risking a US default: www.ft.com/content/17ce1ccd-e997-48c4-bdc2-dafe6b7aecd9There's also that huge US infrastructure bill to be voted on tomorrow. Now I don't actually think there's any real chance of the US defaulting as there's measures that their executive branch can take if the Republicans refuse to back down - but with this and China experiencing major energy and supply chain issues and their real estate sector blowing up it's looking like the world is really turning to shit this winter.

www.bbc.com/news/world-58780561The Pandora Papers should be a catalyst for huge change. Unfortunately I can't see it resulting in anything other than obfuscation and empty promises. It's frustrating and disappointing.

It's frustrating and disappointing. The only people penalised seem to be the leakers. This genuinely makes me angry, and I don't know what to do. Edit: angry, because it's documenting the way the extremely well off and well connected keep on getting away with it, even when their clever wheezes and jolly japes are there in black and white. Angry that there seems to be no fucking justice for cunts like that, and they can sit there, safe and sound, and I really don't know how they can be given a fucking good shake down to pay their due. Still, eat the rich, eh?

I got a tad confused when I saw the Pandora paper leak, because I kept thinking they were continuing on scoops from the *Panama papers! But as said above, nothing will happen to the criminal scum who are hiding their wealth. In fact, the only aftershock I remember from the Panama papers, was the carbomb that killed the journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia (RIP), who was part of the team that brought us the expose, in Malta.

Tax avoided is money stolen, and people who avoid it act like a parasite on society, rather than an integral part of it.
What annoys me the most is that the people avoiding tax are the ones who can most afford the payments, without it impacting their lives in any meaningful or noticeable way.

The Pandora Papers stories I've read range from blatant crimes to legal loopholes. Tony Blair is an example of the latter. He saved 300k in stamp duty as part of a house purchase. Rather than buy the property, he bought the company that owns the property - which is obviously totally different - thus negating the stamp duty. And he's one of the few people in the world who actually had some power to attempt to do something about all of this shit. The wealth and power is so consolidated now, it's impossible to see how anything is ever going to change. So much for the Unexplained Wealth Order legislation which came in 3 years ago.

We all know the super rich live in another world but when you have a government proposing tax increases on the poorest people in our society whilst blatantly ignoring the vast wealth being hoarded through tax evasion it wears you down.
The only solice I take is that for all that wealth I don't think many of the super super rich are particularly happy.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still buying lottery tickets but I recall seeing mega yachts parked in Hvar blasting shitty top ten hits with on-board discos and a load of brasses and it all just seemed a bit pathetic.
