It is isn't it. When I started playing it and realised, I looked to my left and smiled.
There was no-one there of course, but I smiled anyway.

I'm still smiling now in fact. But that's unrelated.

Turns out - despite having The Persistence on my "to buy" list - I didn't realise it was included in last months PS+ offering as one of the extra VR games. What was even better was when I added it to my library, I checked on the enhanced version (which goes a long way to making it perfectly playable as a non-VR game, as well as adding a few bells and whistles for PS5) and was able to upgrade to that. Had a quick look last night. It's fairly decent. It's a bit System Shocky and I love the setting (abandoned ship orbiting a black hole). It's also a bit of a rogue-lite jobber, with the ship reconfiguring itself every time you die. I really like the PSVR version but no longer have the headset set up and was wondering if Enhanced is as good?

erekoseI can't compare with how it was originally and I've only had a quick 30 mins or so, but it seems perfectly playable and natural with a controller. There's the option to have ray tracing on but it can't seem to keep a stable 30fps so I've got it off and it's a nice smooth 60fps whilst still looking pretty decent.

I finally got Remothered Broken Porcelein installed. I'd already bought it before the bad word got out. What can be said? Caveat emptor.
Considering this is supposed to be optimised for a base PS4, the frame rate keeps on crashing even on my Pro. Maybe you need a PS5 to really get the most out of this game. There's a distinct lack of finish. Understandable, unlike the first Remothered, their new publishing partner had a cross-platform release for practically everything dumped into the laps of a small development team. This game is incredibly unoptimised, a single character in a room walking near a mirror can cause massive drops in frame rate, it looks nice, but not so nice a game like this should trouble anything apart from maybe the Switch.
Sometimes it's like you're watching a rehearsal rather than the play, there are some messy scene transitions where it looks like models weren't queued or loaded for a fraction of a second, then they snap to position and act out the scene but there is a seam. As I said, rehearsal rather than watching the finished theatrical production.
Still, if you liked the first game you have to just deal with the glitchy unpolished moments, this game dumps loads of essential story that refers back to the first game. The whole reason anything happened was because of a dogged search for the missing Celeste Felton which the first game never resolves. Broken Prorcelein picks up with our home invader posing as a Miss Reed hot on the trail of the missing girl again following a much more promising lead.
If you want the Clock Tower/Haunting Ground experience, this is it, glitches and all.

Annnnd completed amnesia. What a game it is, absolutly loved every second of it. The atmosphere they created really was something else.
If I could pick one fault its that some of the puzzles were a bit ambiguous for my little brain.

Playing Remothered Broken Porcelain further I'm shocked that this got through Sony's certification process, sadly it illustrates the truth that they only verify that it's possible to finish a game without bricking your console.
This is the side of the PC gaming experience I didn't want coming to consoles, if it was as glitchy as a Bethesda openworld game I'd be happy, Broken Porcelain sinks to even lower depths.

I got around to playing through Little Nightmares II, it's up there as one of my favourite 2021 releases.
The good: • It's consistent with the first game, whilst there are new features and refinements there are no jarring changes. •The visuals are not going to arouse Digital Foundry, but they are very nice, the art direction is spot on and makes the best of a fixed camera to set well composed scenes that create a great sense of scale with great use of tone and lighting. • The sequel has a touch of classic survival horror with the addition of some combat, and it's straight forward, no tying your fingers in knots and ongoing tutorials for dodges, counters combos etc. The skill comes from carefully observing the enemy to figure out the optimal time to take your swing. • Interesting and engaging story? Well, it's mostly inferred and open to interpretation so like Demon's Souls and Silent Hill people come up with all sorts of theories to explain various things that are unclear.
The bad: • Once again, like the first game it's short, 4-6 hours perhaps a little longer depending on your play style. • Repeated and sudden deaths, often the timings to avoid enemies are so tight you need to die the first time to then be ready and instantly moving in the correct direction to avoid danger the second, third, fourth etc. time. The developers obviously realised this and unlike the first game they've eliminated the noticeable loading pause before you can try again. Check pointing is generous at least. • The fixed camera can sometimes lead to unnecessary deaths when showing a beautiful scene takes priority over angles that make it easier to judge how far away hazards and enemies are.

I guess I'm a glutton for punishment, because after buying AITD and finding out for myself that the stories were true, I'm now playing the legendarily bad Amy.

Is Amy still available on PSN? I've always been tempted, uniformly scathing reviews are just not enough to put me off some games.

Might still be available from a PS3. I'm not sure. The web store only shows PS4 and PS5 games now. I'm playing on 360, where I wasted 4 bucks on it (almost all rewards money, luckily).
I got near the end of chapter 2 and... just gave up. Yes, this game is terrible. Might be worse than AITD. See? I went there.
Performance is terrible, with muddy visuals and a framerate that chugs down to probably 20fps at the best of times. Controls are needlessly complicated, and there's very little feedback for most of the actions. The story seems stupid and predictable. Worst of all, there is mandatory stealth and oh boy, does it suck hard. The fact that the game starves you of checkpoints doesn't help. After the sixth attempt trying to get Amy past one of the guards while also trying not to be seen myself, and then having to restart after failing, I decided it was time to cut my losses.
Strangely, there is a "original version" option in the settings, and it's deactivated by default. I can only imagine the game was patched to fix some issues. What I cannot imagine, instead, is how much worse it was before those fixes, because it's already bad enough as is.
To my chagrin, I've also just found out this game was made by Paul Cuisset, better known for Flashback. So I guess he'll have to join Raynal and his 2Dark in the list of "accomplished French designers who make a shitty horror game twenty years after their big break".

I was reading up on Amy, yes you were playing a patched version of Amy with improvements such as extra checkpoints. Apparently they finished the PS3 version ages before release but couldn't do anything with it due to the stupid Microsoft rule that games could either be first on XBLA or a simultaneous release but you weren't allowed to release anything later on the 360.
So they had to put out two shoddy versions of the game just to recoup anything from the development costs.

The long awaited PS4 physical release of Tormented Souls is supposedly out today. It's not looking good, it still hasn't shipped. I also have really bad luck with new releases, they tend to get stolen, last time around I got an empty box since somebody in the warehouse cracked the seal and slipped the disc out.
/Waits some more.

Hi mate Did you get ? I will but want to finish a couple of games before starting a new one. Morning bud. No, I've not picked it up yet: Sifu and from tonight Elden Ring probably going to take up most of my gaming time Seen some early and reasonably positive write ups, though. Fingers crossed, one I'll maybe grab in a week or two.

Cryostasis - Sleep of Reason: Seemed it was time for a replay. The icy/snowy/dark atmosphere is still lovely. I had some troubles with performance first, which wasn't too surprising considering that hte PhysX-patch is notoriously unoptimized, but after putting the game to run on 30 fps I didn't get any laggy bits anymore.
In any case, it's pretty tense so I'll probably take a while to play through all of it. I just found my first firearm after the melee weapons and finished off for toward. The firing sound and reloading sound of the Mosing-Nagant are very well done. It also fits perfectly with the very slow clunky feeling of the game.

Without getting into spoilers, why does The Evil Within have such a bad reputation?
I've played but never finished either but that's only because of one reason or another and not because I wasn't enjoying them. I seem to remember thinking the first one has a seriously wanky framerate but everything else seemed good - very creepy
Thinking of what to play after RE and wondering whether or not to try it again

I remember really disliking it and ranting about how shit it was but it clearly wasn't memorable enough for me to remember.

Ha, the second one I have no issues with. I didn't finish it so maybe I didn't get to the drop off point but the part I played was really enjoyable. The tactical gameplay was really well done, although it did make me feel more like the hunter than the hunted a lot of the time

Anybody have opinion on Darkwood? It's pretty low price currently on Steam. Though I'm not very much into horror games, I'd bite the bullet if it's kinda like Diablo (gameplay wise).

It was more mental, scarier and more difficult.

It's a survival game with challenging melee combat and various other weapons and tools. There is a progression where you only have crappy melee and some other clunky tools like traps at first. Guns, melee with more reach/damage and such start showing up later. Ressources are always fairly limited, but not in a masochistic way.
It's not an ARPG.

Evil Within 1 is absolutely superb. The second one starts off good but gets utter dogshit. I loved the second game. The first one I did abandon around chapter 7 several years ago, (due to insta-death enemies on one or more sections) but did return to completion late last year and really enjoyed. I think the second game is far easier, which for me at least means more fun in most cases.
