I'm sad Chris/Dale never got to see Ouya reach it's rightful place in the gaming hierarchy.

Like I'm not trying to be argumentative, but again I have to disagree. I think you have a large number of people that get GP for a couple months to play Starfield for instance and dip back out. For GP to grow in size the way they want to (article below) they need to have a carrot on a stick every single month. For me GP is the opposite of being invested in an ecosystem. www.gamesindustry.biz/microsoft-drops-game-pass-growth-target-for-ceo-compensationI mean myself and everyone I know with an Xbox - and pretty much everyone I see posting on the forums retain their GP subs annually and don't dip in and out monthly as per your example. The carrot on the stick is losing access to the GP catalogue when you stop your sub, plus a decent stream of new content... Diablo 4 next month, the COD games to follow etc I honestly can't fathom how having a Gamepass sub or a PSN Sub is the literal opposite of being invested in an ecosystem. That's a serious hot take. In both cases they are literally and by definition an investment in the MS and/or Sony ecosystem especially when increasingly the backbones of their strategy is subscribers to these services.

Oh the Ouya. As if people legitimately thought that it would become a massive player. A shitty android spec for the time that played mobile titles. My wife’s friend’s husband is an insufferable prick who thought he was the shit because he worked at PC World and occasionally got to play with stuff before release day. I only have to remember that he bought an Ouya to mentally cut him back down to size

In both cases they are literally and by definition an investment in the MS and/or Sony ecosystem especially when increasingly the backbones of their strategy is subscribers to these services. I'd argue subscription services are better at attracting new people to the service rather than necessarily retaining existing users between generations. By their nature they become less appealing the longer you subscribe as you will have tried more and more of the content., and it's not uncommon for people to dip in and out of them. This is the same with Netflix etc too. The reason why fewer people do this on Xbox is due to the cheap conversion trick, but they're bound to remove that at some point as Gold is phased out GP was one of the big factors for me choosing to go Xbox this generation as there was so many games on it (not just exclusives) that I hadn't played. However after 3 years there's only 5-6 games added each month, and generally I'm only vaguely interested in maybe 1 of them on average, plus the exclusives have been disappointing. I think I've bought fewer than 10 Series X/One games, so if I choose to go to PlayStation next generation then I'm not losing out on a big library of games. Contrast this to the 360 generation when I probably had close to a 100 digital games on my account.

Don't you technically still have access to most of those 100 Xbox 360 games through back-compat?

Don't you technically still have access to most of those 100 Xbox 360 games through back-compat? A lot of them, yeah, and it would definitely be a reason to stay on Xbox, even though I haven't played many of them this generation. My point was more than I wasn't really adding to that library as I'm using GP for most of my games.

Just about to pull the trigger on Alan Wake 2 and I remembered someone suggesting I get it from the Iceland store as it is cheaper. How does it work, by using a VPN? Do I change my region on the Series X?

You don't do it on the Series X itself, leave the region on that alone.
You just go to the Xbox website and switch to the Icelandic site at the bottom of the page. From there you can login and purchase as normal, although being foreign currency it helps to use a fee free card, but your standard card payment will work as well.
Think it's about £32 on there at the moment, as opposed to the £50 on the UK store.
Personally I'd wander over to Gamivo and purchase an Egyptian code there, can get that for about £15. Fire up a VPN in Egypt, then just go to redeem.microsoft.com and login as normal and redeem.

£15 instead of £50, Satya is never going to get his bonus this way.

Xcloud is being expanded to include games you own rather than just game pass titles at some point this year. Although as that was supposed to happen in 2022 I won't be holding my breath.

Holy fudge. That’s ridiculous. No wonder these games are all seemingly struggling after such long development times.

It's a MS global policy on contracting rules. They only really started enforcing it in 2020/21 but it is across the board in every department across Microsoft everywhere. They had numerous contractors who might have been there 10s of years who were let go and teams just had to suck it up. Whilst not the only reason, the fixed term contract law in EU and the likes of IR35 (UK) really put the squeeze on this stuff.
In essence though it underlines they just need to take on more permanent staff and be less reliant on a relatively inflexible contracting policy.

It really explains why stuff takes so long to get fixed if someone is responsible for something and takes that knowledge with them.

I posted it another thread, but just an PSA, the open beta / free trial for FFXIV has gone live today and all progress carries across to the full release.

The leaked doc last year showed something cylindrical, but otherwise I the details seem to align. There's nothing new here though, other than a more specific release window.
Looks better in white though, and would blend into the walls a lot better.

Really like it in white, but it's just a shame it looks the same size as the original X. You'd have thought they could have shrunk it down a bit without the Blu-ray drive.

That's not it's official design. White wouldn't go in my set up but at the same time I would prefer it. Might even get the Starfield Wrap at some point. If it doesn't go at least I can take it off.

As an option it's fine, but if that's all there is... Tends to stick out like dogs balls no matter how you try to hide it.

Speaking of Wraps. Seems to have been forgotten pretty quickly by MS. No new colours or designs since launch despite saying they sold well.

Maybe the form factor of the Series X is about to change so they don't see the point in making new ones for their "old" design?
