Which Katana do you have? The 100 with the effects loop? If so you can put the looper in the effects loop, and use different sound patches on the amp - clean for some chords, then something gnarly to play a solo over the chords. Fun times. If you've got the 50 then you might want an OD/distortion pedal too Apologies if I'm confusing you with someone else who recently bought a Katana. No, that's me. I got the 50, though. The OD isn't bad on it - but I can see why one might want a proper pedal.

No, the difference is that with the 100, you can put the looper pedal in the effects loop, which means it comes after all the Katana's built-in effects (which are pretty great imo). So you can loop some chords with a clean sound, then activate some distortion, delay, whatever - and it doesn't affect your clean looped chords, only what you play 'live'. If you have the looper going into the main amp input (which is the only option on the 50), then when you change the amp sound, you change your looped chords too. So you'd need a pedal(s) before the looper to get the different sound. Hope that makes sense. It's why I stumped up the extra for the 100.

monkman5000 no, makes perfect sense. I'm probably not that advanced at the moment, honestly. But it's definitely something to think about in the future.

I'm not advanced! But looping some simple chords and messing about on a scale over them is really really great practice for all sorts of reasons. Not to mention a huge amount of fun.

You can just loop the chords with your neck pickup and play lead/scales on the bridge pickup, that works. But some dirt makes it more fun

Stick a new battery in your snark if it’s not cutting it any more, they play up when the battery drains

I've been eyeing up a Boss-TU3 in line tuner pedal. I use a Snark for the acoustics, but it just doesn't seem to quite cut it with the electrics. Every guitarist needs pedals, right? No, all you need is a marshall two channel valve amp (one clean/one dirty) with a touch of reverb and one pedal (an ibanez tubescreamer TS9). Plus a cry baby if you must... I've done 100's of gigs with that set up :-)

The heat did things to me. Made me think a travel guitar would be good seeing as I’m away for the next 5 weeks. This Martin Backpacker is tiny, I can get it on a plane as hand luggage and it was only 180 second hand

It sounds ok, but mainly it’s just a portable fretboard to fuck about with on holiday

I thought I was also using the TU3, and I had been considering getting a second one to minimise the chance of moving pedals between rigs, but I realise I have been using a TU2. Perfect excuse to get a new one for the main guitar rig? Yes!

I often play along to Josh Foshgreen's bassbuzz videos, and he's just uploaded another challenge song. The idea is, he takes a difficult bassline, breaks it all down and you can learn it at a slower pace and then bring it up to the right bpm. Simple. Except, this one is Hysteria by Muse. Fuck me, 16th notes at 93bpm is pretty taxing. It'll be good practice though, but I think I'm not going to get this one in half an hour! youtu.be/yW5Xdo26HK4

I've not done any Josh stuff since lockdown. Might need to give this one a go for the lols and see how shit I've gotten.

It's too fast for my current skill level but I can *nearly* keep up. I just did the open string 16ths to start with to see if I could just jump in at 93bpm. The answer, is currently No

Are you fingering I take it? Does Muse's bassist finger or pick?
Is there any way that we can say "finger(ing)" without it sounding rude?

Yes he does! He's the one playing the bass in the video you posted I said plucks, not picks, in case that's the confusion
