Shit, look at this. a) that colour is to die for b) it's got enough of the decent fender spec without having to pay more for the ultra range c) Fretless, but with markers. Man, I gotta have a go on one of those. That colour is astonishing, and yet some asshole is gonna get it in sunburst Yup, they probably will. But it's a really sleek velvety colour. Really like it. However, I'm going to look at a squier £300 one for now and see whether I can get to grips with it. Manchester PMT store have one in, so need to have a play.

Other bass brands are available. /BBC
What pedals do you bassists use, if any? Been trying to find an overdrive/distortion and a compressor for a decent price second hand.

Yeah I like the Electro Harmonix stuff (mostly based on reasonable price and good word-of-mouth, but I also like the aesthetics of their pedals). I really want the Deluxe Big Muff with the clean/fuzz blend dial and the low pass for fuzz / high pass for clean switch, but that's quite pricey.

I've never got into pedals at all, I've only ever used a ibanez tube screamer and a Cry baby wah live. I let the Marshall or Fender valve amps with the twin channels do all the other stuff. A well set clean channel with a bit of reverb and use my pick ups for different tones. Then the Gain channel set on british crunch (60's distortion), volume knob for more distortion and Tube Screamer for solos and stuff to cut through the mix. I've bought loads of other pedals over the years that I have a mess around with but never stick with and have never used live. I'm a creature of habit!

The fretless bass has arrived and it's great! Still as easy to play as a normal bass. Doesn't have the full oomph of a double bass but probably to be expected. But, slides on it sound fucking great!

That looks very nice indeed. I'm impressed at your ability to play a fretless. There's no way I'd get anything tuneful out of one.

Sweet. Always prefer the darker sunbursts. Nice chair, too.

It's nothing like a double bass with ridiculous action and no markers. It's basically the same, but smoother. Took zero extra skill to play it

The bridge has popped up on my strat and I have no idea why. The springs look fine and the strings stay in tune, but it's sitting maybe a centimetre proud of the body. I hate it.

Is it fastened properly? Surely something is making it like that

It's likely either increased string tension or reduced spring tension. You can tighten the springs, or generally add another (or two). Have you changed strings to a different gauge per chance, as that's the classic scenario that would happen. This can happen by going from e.g 9 gauge to 10s, it doesn't take much. The other I could think of would be an alternate tuning like open E where the tension is higher because you're tuning strings up. If it is one of those you'll need to adjust the trem as above. It should 'float' to a small degree if you want to use the trem both ways. Apologies if grannies and eggs etc.

I'm a little worried that something has warped given how damp and cold my flat can get in the winter. I'll try a restring and then take it to Denmark St if that doesn't work Edit: thank you for the hints

Hmmm, unusual. I haven't heard of temperature/humidity changes causing this but I guess in theory if the wood has expanded or contracted it could affect the spring tightness.
Do you keep it cased? It really does help with climate control IME although it's additional cost and space.
The fix would remain the same in any case, which is tightening the springs (by screwing then tighter at the top end) and if that doesn't work adding extra springs to taste. In situations like this I'll have a quick play but I like to know my limits so yeah take it to the tech if you end up chewing up screws and stuff.
Once you have it levelled, a tip that I learned in the last year or so: if it's a six point tremelo (i.e. there are six screws on the top of the block itself) have the outer two tighter and give some slack to the middle four.
Better tuning stability if it's anchored on two points compared to six.
Again apologies if I'm patronising someone that knows their stuff, but there could always be somebody else stumbling across these posts it helps I guess.

Appreciate it, I'll have a play around. I'm fine with a fixed bridge, but trems are a finicky beast.

Can anyone recommend a good brand/model of an acoustic guitar? My wife is getting back into playing after years. She has guitar already but it’s be nice to buy her something a little nicer.
Budget of a couple of hundred quid, maybe a little more if worth it?
Thanks!

I don't know much about acoustics to be honest but I'm pretty sure I've heard very good things about Yamaha in that price bracket.
