Why is it bad to spend the large ones? /has definitely not been spending the large ones. It's bad to spend them on Zonai charges rather than crystallized charges. Zonai charges can be replaced with other materials in the vending machines (I think anything Zonai-related will work, although you won't get as many devices) and only provide temporary battery boosts if used instead of the permanent battery upgrades crystallized charges get you. Plus getting crystallized charges is harder in general... So ultimately it should work out better to save your large Zonaite for crystallized charges.

We only started this last week as my partner was away for release week, and we play most adventure games together. Kept out of this thread till we had put a good few hours in, but up to date now whilst skipping a few of the spoilers.
About 20 hours in now and absolutely loving it. The number of different ways to approach every situation is staggering and allows us both to play the way we want - me making contraptions or generally flinging anything grabbable about before going in for hand to hand, mrsgamingdave preferring stealth or distance, natural defences and arrows.
Exploring the map is a joy either on foot looking in every corner, making a flying vehicle, or just the simple fire/pinecone/paraglider launch combo with a bit of ascend for good measure.
Loving the shrines, caves and general exploring and going at our own pace getting lost before deciding we really should get back to the story.
Opened up quite a few towers, found a couple of glyphs, and done our first temple (north west) now. Loving the puzzles and general interactions.
From reading here, it sounds like everyone is spending quite a bit of time in the depths - we haven't even found them yet!
So much to see and do and it's just a delight to be back in Hyrule.

gamingdave you've both got to try the depths! They're great/mad/odd/very dark/different! Agree with your summary though, it's just a wonderful place

gamingdave if you haven't gone to the depths does that mean you haven't got the paraglider yet?

cubby - we got that early on, when activating the first tower quadfather - if they are like the caves, they will freak my partner out - she really doesn't like them for some reason, the enemies on the walls and tight spaces seem to trigger something

Ah right yeah. I spend em on the crystallized buggers. Yeah, sorry, wasn't 100% clear... spending the on crystallized charges is fine. Spending them on Zonai charges seems (to me) to be an unwise investment. Other investment advice is available.

Potentially not good, though the boulders set off her trypophobia a bit, so darkness may be preferable

Have a look outside the gates of Lookout Landing This and also there's a shrine right beside the sky fella who does the same thing, so it's not much of a hassle to go there deez

As for constructs, I've been experimenting more now that my battery is getting bigger. Nothing quite as insane as the Metal Gears, detaching drones and tanks people have built but it's really fun! I made some cheap area control with a Big Wheel on its side mounted on either a Stake or a homing cart (I think homing carts and batteries cost a lot of Zonaite to replicate though...) and however many turrets you want attached to the wheel. Stand on top of it and let it rip! And of course there's always the simple option of a homing cart or three, Construct Heads for aiming and as many turrets as you can fit on them, for an autonomous minitank... Or potential weapon attachments for the hoverbike everyone is talking about (although it might need more fans to stay afloat at that point too, haven't tried it yet.) I honestly think Ultrahand/Fuse could carry a game by themselves as the main mechanic, the kinds of things people are coming up with are insane

I need to find a guide for zonaite. Every time I chat with that machine on the sky island it feels like a different language. I’m like “do what with what?”.
At one point I had about 8 batteries, but when they depleted they disappeared forever. Now I am back to one.

You probably used some small Zonai charges at some point, they give temporary battery extensions when used as items (like hearty meals give temporary hearts and enduring meals give temporary stamina)

Yeah, that sounds about right. I think it made more sense initially, but 50 hours later my brain has just forgotten how it all works. Something to experiment with this week, perhaps.

Okay, so from what I've found so far it goes like this: Zonaite: exchanged for small Zonai charges and small crystallized charges. Should also be usable at the vending machines but there's better options. Also used to pay for any missing components when Autobuilding constructs (so you can reduce or even negate the Zonaite cost by having the required components around or pulling them out your inventory first) Large Zonaite: exchanged for large Zonai charges and large crystallized charges. Should also be usable at the vending machines but there's better options. Zonai charges: deposited at the vending machines to obtain a small amount of device capsules. Also give a temporary battery extension when used as an item. Large Zonai charges: deposited at the vending machines to obtain a large amount of device capsules (and I do mean large, depositing the maximum of five you can hold at once might actually block the last few from coming out of the machine until you pick up the rest ). Temporarily prevent your battery from draining when used as an item. Crystallized charges: permanently upgrade your battery. Everything except the crystal charges might also be needed for armour upgrades but I can't remember any specifics off the top of my head.

Zonaite is used for one armour set and it doesn't take a huge amount to upgrade it to max. As someone with max battery and way too many hours played, I'd recommend: Keep your Zoanite for building and avoid spending it on crystallised charges (CCs) or Zoanite charges (ZCs) Use Large Zoanite to buy Large CCs from the Mines in the Depths to upgrade the battery. Don't buy ZCs, get then from constructs. Mark the big beasties Frox, Hinox, Stalnox, Talus, Lynel in the Depths as you find them. Kill them after each Blood Moon as they drop a Large CC (20 CCs each), 5 of those for a new cell. Free tip, stay on the slug's backs till they throw you upwards and them bullet time to restun it, rinse repeat, they're stupidly easy. Those also hang out near some Zoanite deposits for a little bonus Mark good Zoanite spots and farm those regularly as well. I found some good routes where you chain a few camps with ore deposits that net about 60-100 smalls and up to 20 large. The areas under Death Mountain and Gerudo Desert have really high yields. The Flux constructs will drop large ZCs, I tended to kill 5 or more of those each Blood Moon as they're fantastic for putting into the dispensers for more parts. Make sure you have a few Large ZCs for those long air trips in the sky. You can find them in the Depths and in Sky For transit, seek out the Zoanite armour set. Even 1 piece drastically extends your battery life. There's one in the Death Star type thing around the mid-eastern sky area. It's a bit of a chore, but if you want to build some fun stuff and have an easy time getting around I strongly suggest spending a few hours (on and off in between Blood Moons) grinding it out to at least 6 full batts and using those big ZCs to stock up on parts. Beam Emitters, Cannons + Construct Heads are the best offences in my experience, you'll want heaps of fans and the (part) batteries, sleds/carts/big wheels/stabilisers for mobility I can get some contraption vids together if anyone is interested in seeing stuff get melted for motivation

Oh if you chuck 5 Large ZCs in a dispenser then make sure the trap door closes. If it doesn't then pop over and shoot an arrow to release the rest, they like to get stuck

I love some of the little touches that seem so obvious when you spot them. Like having a sapphire fused weapon equipped cools you down in the desert, and presumably ruby warms you up in colder climes.

I was holding one of those decapitated but living Skelton heads earlier, went to throw it and Link just punted it the fuck into the distance instead.

I was doing that in botw Still not sure about the new addictions. Like how much of a faff most of the shrines have been so far. I did one earlier where I had to get a giant boulder around a huge area building various things to get it there. Or another where I had to float many different balloons to get to the end of it. Also a lot of the weapons you create just clip through everything and look crap. Amazing game though obviously but that's not because of the new stuff although I did enjoy sky diving underground for the first time and exploring there a bit but everything seemed why higher lvl than me and also some currently invulnerable enemies.

I’ve almost had my fill of crazy contraption videos, but I hadn’t considered the possibilities of just spawning shit into the world without even building anything (Minor Yiga clan identity spoiler)

Climbing up a mountain and it starts raining. Sit there for a bit but it's going to rain for ages. Take out a portable pot and make an elixir to stop myself slipping. Elixir makes no difference.
Slippy climbing is still a shit mechanic in this one.
