I've just fomo bought a retro PC off ebay that is collection only from a charity shop in Oxford (Share Oxford), despite the fact that I live a couple of hundred miles away.... would anyone here be willing to pick it up for me, and I'll arrange courier pickup from you??

Couldn’t you arrange a pick up from the shop?

Couldn’t you arrange a pick up from the shop? Yeah I asked that... they said they can't accept courier pickups because they have limited opening hours, I can appreciate that.
I'll have to let it go, it was a really nice Gateway 2000 486 SX33 for just £25 which is a total bargain, lovely machines and worth £100+. If anyone wants it before I cancel it, speak now or forever hold your peace!

Amazing, a lovely piece of history that resonates with my early computing / gaming. Sorry I can't help

Perhaps you could get someone on Fiverr to collect and send it to you?

Thanks for the tip off. I'm going to flip it.

Perhaps you could get someone on Fiverr to collect and send it to you? I toyed with the idea but it's a step too far, it was an impulse buy after all (I already have a lovely Gateway 2000 P90 for retro).

Hit up a student forum on Reddit or something, and offer somebody a tenner for their troubles

Is this going to be one of those Marketplace scams where the courier turns out to be three guys and a baseball bat?

I've cancelled the order, guess they'll relist it soon... so if anyone around Oxford sees this late and want's a classic 486 system for peanuts, keep an eye on Share Oxford ebay page!

What do you do with them? Just out of curiosity. Do you play with them, or display them?

What do you do with them? Just out of curiosity. Do you play with them, or display them? Yep solely for playing (though, honestly, I do love how they look just as a retro piece of hardware with a full monitor + m&k set up), currently going through 90s point n click games on the P90. I've been looking for a 486 as there are a number of games from that era (and before) that run too fast on Pentiums, such as the original Theme Park. I'll find a Gateway 2000 486 to go with my P90 one day...
