On Netflix, the new Jojo is listed as a monthly release.
I don't really know what that means. Are we going to get a bunch of episodes every month, instead of one each week?

Always been interested in the stuff but never seriously followed it. I do love Akira and the Ghibli stuff although the latter is closer to Disney to me than what I would characterise anime typically to be.
I got through about half of Death Note some years ago and would love to revisit that although it doesn't appear to be available to stream for free.
I did watch AoT Season 1 and it now appears to have disappeared from Netflix. I enjoyed that.
Have just finished Neon Genesis and End of Evangelion and suspect, badly explained fluff, endings and philosophies aside, that I've spoiled it for myself as I can't see anything being as good again.
I tried Fullmetal Alchemist this week and didn't love it, but will bookmark it. Tokyo Ghoul seemed brilliantly drawn but shallow and lots of reviews are saying don't waste your time on it.
I've kind of settled on Dorohedoro as my lunchtime Netflix fix now, so let's see how that goes.
I'd like to know what are considered the classics? I'm aware of about seven thousand Gundam series so that seems a fool's errand. I think Cowboy Bebop is one of the must watches isn't it?

Bebop is, but even I struggled through as it suffers with the classic tag (see also:The Godfather). Never felt the need to rewatch it either, just a ticked box for me.
Dorohedoro is as chaotic as hell, but be aware it doesn't have a conclusion - it's a "go read the 30yo manga" advert that hopefully garners a concluding season at some point, however unlikely.
I could throw out 100 classic titles, and 98 of them don't interest you, so what are we after ? Narrowing down so there's some base interest at least helps a lot.

Space Dandy is pretty good especially the episode "Sometimes you can't live with dying, baby".
Lovely stuff

I guess the three that I've really liked , Akira, Neon Gen, and AoT maybe share a bit of a post apocalyptic and cosmic horror bent. But I'm also interested in the 'bucket list' in general. Not going to pay for any more subscriptions, so 'currently free' is important!

Oldies:
Ergo Proxy (very dark, bleak) Texhnolyze (even bleaker) Shinsekai Yori (you'll get the story immediately or not, YMMV depending) Humanity has Declined (google "bread suicide") Desert Punk (lots of echii/sexual comedy with pervy main character though)
Newer: Psycho Pass (dystopian, but police angle) Girls Last Tour (bleak and comfy at once)
And a quick google should shove up thousands of "dodgy" streaming sites, there's always a copy somewhere. If not, I believe we have PMs these days.

Space Dandy is pretty good especially the episode "Sometimes you can't live with dying, baby". Lovely stuff Space Dandy is amazing. Doesn't get enough recognition because the masses complain "it's episodic". When every episode is inventive, even when it's parodying stuff (zombies, High School Musical, the Evangelion ending) and features the best of talent from Watanabe invites/favours owed across the industry, then yeah. It's not as if the ED explains why it isn't episodic.

Thanks Soviet.
I did Google bread suicide.
I'll see what I can find of this stuff later but have just found the Evangelion films on Prime Video.
Some of the different voices are very jarring. Suzahara just entered and sounds about mid fifties.
Re: dodgy sites. Probably not for me. This is a 'what I can access through the Sky box on my dinner break whilst th either half is at the gym' thing.
Cheers for the advice anyway. I guess DVD/blu ray is also an option longer term.

Bright:Samurai Soul on Netflix was ok. Simple graphical style but good characterizations and action. The director sure likes his pulling out/circling 3d camera shots(dunno what the technical term is for those). The ending was perhaps a tad convenient.

I also tried the first episode of Big O, but it was too much like creepy Bruce Wayne with random mecha tacked in. I'm just not a fan. I tried watching Big-O earlier this year as well, and I really didn't like it. I remember people hyping it up back when it released, and I really liked the visual design, but yeah, Roger Smith just wasn't likable at all. He was sexist, aloof and he had weird rules about entering his home. Every episode was formulaic too. Dorothy does something, he gets mad at her, he drives to meet a client, they say some nonsense, he goes to "negotiate," ie yells then jumps in a giant robot, the end. I haven't watched too much anime recently. The last new shows I watched were Brand New Animal and The Great Pretender on Netflix. THe latter is pretty much Lupin the Third, the former is pretty much Bloody Roar. Great shows, though. I'm looking forward to the new series of Lupin III, though!

Been considering that Vampire Cosmonaut anime, but the first couple episodes have been quite strong on the obnoxious light novel elements (just because it's not creepy isekai baby reincarnation, it doesn't mean it can't be obnoxious) so I don't think I'll keep watching it.
Might keep up with the story just to see how it goes though.
I also need to find the willpower to start the new Lupin. As acclaimed as the last season was, and it was definitely better than the fourth series, I still found it average.

I liked the fourth much more than the fifth, personally. m Still a massive fan of the franchise overall though.

Already watched the pre-season fun Ep0, nice little angle with a modern day tech angle thrown in, but Ep1 had me bored by the end. Same old stuff and nothing intriguing about it at all. I'll give it a few more episodes, but I feel I've seen enough Lupin.
Fall is a little disappointing, especially with the resurgence in mecha shows - almost all of them aimed at kids booo. Sakugan was the last hope, but I haven't got round to watching yet. It's like 86 never happend. At least it's trotting along all right.
Blue Period is struggling with autotranslate/fansubs and an unreliable schedule thanks to Netflix again, Taishou Otome Otogibanashi and Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi are waiting to be watched, and the only standout has been Ousama Ranking - not often you get a show with a deaf/mute MC, and with WIT Studio of AoT behind it there's a certain something there. Really enjoyed the opening ep.
Roll on the sequels of 2022 - AoT finale, Tanya, Made in Abyss, and the newly announced S3 of Mob Psycho 100. Sweet.

Newer: Girls Last Tour (bleak and comfy at once) I enjoyed that series. Somewhat related for people that also liked that Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (YKK) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokohama_Kaidashi_Kikō may also be worth a punt, but I'd recommend the manga more highly than the OVAs.

I've dipped in and out of watching anime over the years, but I've always wanted to find something that recreated the Chunin exam fights from Naruto and the tournament fighting of Flame of Recca (which I'd love to re-watch but is so hard to find). So I was pleased to come across Kengan Ashura on Netflix. It's exactly what I wanted in terms of over-the-top action. Some of the characters are wild, there are great clashes of various fighting styles, some absolutely outrageous fights and seriously violent finishes. There are only two seasons up and the tournament is only about halfway through, so I'm hoping there is more to come soon.

TFW when you don't want to wait a few more weeks to see how an anime ends, so you just start looking for light novel spoilers. And then, TFW there are no spoilers online so you just translate the novel on your own. ... wow, this stuff is such poorly written drivel. But hey, at least I don't have to wonder about the rest of the anime anymore. Now when people in weekly discussions are like "oh my god, I wonder what happens next week?" I can smugly think to myself "yes yes, I know what will happen, thank you very much".

Just for info, the first 12 episodes of Stone Ocean will release on Netflix this Wednesday.
Not sure what happens after that - if they will have another batch in January, or if they will just move to weekly streaming.

Not much of a watcher of anime in general, but my wife puts things on that I occasionally get invested with.
The Way of the Househusband has made me burst out laughing with how ridiculous it is. Give it a go.

Been watching My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer recently and both have been really good. MHA really excels with its extended cast of characters and they do a great job off coming up with random special powers that some how turn out to be extremely over powered. DS is just a real solid story. It perhaps falls back on each episode focusing on a demon of the week, but the main characters are great.
The first animé series I watched was Evangelion and I did feel like I made a mistake in watching probably the best one first. I include the complete breakdown ending in that, which completely blew me away. I don't think anything had come close to the thematic depths of that, but I've very much enjoyed MHA, DS, Bebop and Full Metal Alchemist since then.

First episode of the Shenmue anime is on Crunchyroll. I thought it was ok, nothing special so far. Not keen on Nozomi's new look, I didn't know who she was supposed to be at first.

Could you speak up ? I can't hear you over the HYPE of SnK/KnY Sundays.
Feel I need to catch up on KnY, wasn't fussed about continuing post-movie, but I do enjoy the art. Plus, it's been a pretty quiet season: Hakozume, a nice little comedy drama following two lassie cops and the jaring fan service/sweetness of Sono Bisque Doll... being the only other two shows I'm watching.
Is Shenmue a "Crunchyroll Original" then ? Because I saw a video decrying that very thing pop up in my feed, and it serves as a warning rather than a recommendation after the legacy of trash bandied about by Netflix.
/checks
Yep.

Yeah, it's a Crunchyroll / Adult Swim collaboration. I've enjoyed a few of their originals, they are hit and miss but then what isn't? Even a few of the Netflix ones have been decent.
I'm enjoying KnY, they've dialled down some of the more annoying aspects (Zenitsu) but dialled up the fanservice a bit. It feels like it was made to be another movie though, it's quite focussed on a single thread and sometimes the episodes just seem to stop without there being a natural break.

Yeah, I won't be watching it for the plot. I already know I'll be bored of the constant fights, but I'll bet they're pretty as hell.
Forgot I watched Belle too. There's boredom in a compact form. From the guy who did Summer Wars & Mirai, and it took almost 40mins until the introduction of a character for me to realise it was his interpretation of B&TB, albeit with his digital theme. The title should have given it away, and aside from some stunning imagery at times...dull.

Last part of Stone Ocean is out, and I want to mention once again how much I hate the seasonal Netflix drops model. It's basically taken the series out of the zeitgeist. I remember during the Golden Wind run, it was fun and memes every week. With Stone Ocean, its existence barely registered.

Judging from Twitter trends, it seems Bocchi was king of the season. Good thing too, it was cute and fun and inoffensive overall. And also kinda relatable.
I barely ever watch more than one series per season anymore, and it looks like I chose well.
Don't really want a season 2, I feel like we already got all that we could, and if we got anymore the joke would run dry, but it appears to have been very successful so we'll most likely get a sequel at some point.

Will give Bocchi a try, hadn't noticed that before. I'm enjoying Chainsaw Man a lot more than I expected to.
