The tracks are by and large proper shite, though. I get they are using the cities as backdrops to send their message, but at some point they've got to start getting a bit more serious about the racing. There are plenty of shorter tracks and alternate layouts on the more famous ones that they can avoid direct comparison with F1.

I've got a friend who's now chief engineer at one of the midfield f1 teams. He told me a few years back that regen is only worth about 10% range in fully electric race cars. May have been back then, but it's a lot higher in Gen3. 600kW total max regen (brakes / axle etc). Still makes very little difference vs what you can do with compressed dinosaur though.

FE feels closer to karting than F1 to me, but that doesn't make it bad as karting is great!
The Gen2 car was the first acceptable version in my view as the car swaps made it slightly farcical. I actually like the Mario kart esque boost zone and think it adds to it. The strike rate with new innovations is about 50/50 but again, I have no issue with a brand new formula experimenting. I'm a traditionalist F1 fan because I love the history and don't want to see it lose the links to the past and deviate too far from what makes it special. FE by contrast should just do whatever results in the best, fair, sporting spectacle and bit by bit they are making a decent rules set. As an example, the new qualifying format seems an intelligent solution to flaws in the old system which overly disadvantaged the top 5 in the Championship leaders who had to run first (reverse Champ order).
I don't think it'll supersede F1 any time soon but I hope it thrives as it's plain to see the potential with a couple more iterations. They need better cars before they can get better tracks, but even so there's a lot of talent on the grid now and a lot of the racing is pretty entertaining.
I'm quite interested to see how much of a leap the Gen 3 will be. If it's 25-30% faster with a greater range I think that's enough to go up another level.

Bit of an embarrassing end to that one today from a safety standpoint. Always going to be a clusterfuck on these scalextric tracks when someone bins it.

Damn, that's a rapid Vauxhall Nova! Big balls on the co driver to sit there during that, don't think I could!

Finding it hard to muster enthusiasm for the new F1 season. Last year left a bad taste that still annoys me.
But yes, Aston looks pretty good

Yeah, I feel the same. I'm sure I'll end up being dragged back in, but I have a sense that it doesn't deserve as much of my attention as it usually has.

I've been really glad of the break tbh. Race weekends are such a time commitment, I almost feel as though it was better for me when races were spaced fortnightly as standard. Felt like more of an event and gave you chance to do other stuff during the other weekends.
That said, I have little doubt I'll be there for all 42 races or whatever stupid number were up to now in 2022.

Underwhelmed by the car launches, they will look very much different come testing and the first race.
All seems a bit pointless. I am looking forward to the new season though.

More like livery launches these days. The Aston and Haas at least look like an early concept version of whatever philosophy they are running, but the Red Bull is literally just the show car with a number 1 on it.

Chalk me up as another who still feels a bit disillusioned with F1 after the finale.

So the big talking point from that launch, has Seb cultivated a superb comb over or has he had a hair transplant for Christmas?
I really like that Aston livery though, much better than last year.

Looks like a bit of both. Probably got Hamilton to spill the beans on his surgeon.

The Aston at least looked like more of the finished article, albeit with more changes to come probably.
Looked super sexy though, except for the tractor wheels they have now, take some getting used to.

Good formula e race in Mexico. A full width track really helps and I think it's a much better FE venue than F1 venue. The baseball stadium is actually appropriate for the FE cars.

I really like the new cars. Always preferred low noses and uncluttered lines. Best looking cars since 1994 in my opinion.

Yeah they do look good. More purposeful and elegant than recent years' that have had too many fiddly and awkward bits to them.

One of the best things about the difference in looks is that the front wings are no longer massive at the edges and tiny in the middle. Last/recent years' ones looked so precarious and awkward, like all the cars are prepping themselves for a world's biggest handlebar moustache competition.

To be honest I could do without many of the street circuits. Just get them at donnington short etc. actually be nice to see them on lesser used circuits and give them time on the international stage. Rome and Uruguay were pretty good tracks though.

Not generally a Ferrari fan, but I think their car design this year is one of my favourites.
Remains to be seen if it's quick.

I like that they've put a bit of colour on the things that come up over the wheels rather than try to pretend they're not there by making them black.

Pure 1990's vibes, before Phillip Morris took over the livery. I love it.
