I also think that was too aggressive from Lewis for what it's worth, chopped him there. This is the issue with endorsing ever more aggressive 'racing'. They'll keep pushing it further and further until someone gets hurt.

Stewards may do something about the weaving perhaps?

You can’t beat a good championship battle. This is great. Lewis showing a bit of his younger self today. Good to see him be aggressive like he used to be. Rare he gets to be these days.

Toto releasing Bottas to get Verstappen was hilarious.

Looks like Max totally cooked his tyres defending for so long. Bottas should keep going in case he hits the cliff.

Bottas isn't going to get anywhere near Max. Wishful thinking.

Ricciardo PU failure kind of underlines the risk of running a Merc engine too hard for too long.

Will be interesting to see the degradation. I think it'll be the only thing to stop them on the tracks that are coming up. Unless they just chuck another one in.

He has a huge advantage over most other cars though, so don't be surprised to see him finish in the top five of the sprint race. Would still be 10th for the race, sure... but all it takes is a safety car or two to put him in contention. One prediction down, prediction for an easy podium for Hamilton tomorrow yet to come... If we see a safety car then I'd bet on him winning the race. Exactly as predicted. Amuses me so many people were saying the championship was over.

It's been at least an hour since one of the teams have whinged about something, so I'm sure Red Bull have a 200 page dossier ready to drop on the FIA's desk to explain how Mercedes are so fast in a straight line.

I really want to see the inconveniently missing onboard from Max's car as that should tell us intent. If he's locked his tyres and is on full left lock, then I'll be a lot more understanding. Even if it was a genuine error, he should still have had to yield the place, otherwise, it encourages drivers to 'fake' similar errors as there's always a chance the FIA might buy it.
The overhead shows Hamilton had already rotated the car sufficiently to easily make the corner and did really well to react to Max and avoid being crashed into.
As Di Resta said, it's a bad precedent from the stewards.
Horner's face whilst defending that moment on Sky says it all. He's no idiot, he knows.

So many of the great races we see are predicated on front runners starting from way back on the grid. I'm not talking about drivers winning it per se, just seeing how they will race and final finishing position. Why don't we reverse the race order from pole? Fastest drivers go to the back and have to fight their way to the front. I know why we don't obviously, but I love the idea of it.

Hamilton summoned to the stewards again for undoing his seat belts on the in lap. A £50001 fine would be fair.

Will just be a reprimand.
Unless Red Bull throw in a complaint that he touched his seat belt under parc ferme conditions.

Why would anyone push at all in quali, knowing the faster you go the worse your starting position?

I'd keep sprint races but make a load of changes
1) don't have the first one before about round 6 to give the drivers championship a chance to take shape 2) only run them at events with a history of being able to overtake, maybe let teams blind vote to decide which. 3) grid set by reverse drivers championship order 4) award points down to 6th by the old 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 system 5) make the sprint a bit longer, maybe 40% distance 6) the Sunday GP grid remains set by qualifying and whoever sets the fastest lap is awarded 'pole'

Ok, it wasn't clear to me that's what you meant. Anyway I wasn't having a dig, it's something that seems to come up a fair bit. I don't see how you'd get past that fundamental issue.

I imagine you’d have points up for grabs in quali. Risk vs reward then. Do you take the qualifying points and then have to push for race points or give up quali points for a better shot at the race ones. Or something.

Isn't it like 3 points for pole in F2 or F3? I enjoyed the format there this year with two 'sprint' races and one 'feature' race, even if all of them were the same length. The reverse pole thing at least forces interesting results.

I don't like sprints at all tbh, or giving out points outside races. I'm even going off the point for fastest lap, given how 2nd drivers are now just patsies for taking it off the lead driver of the other team now.
This season has shown what the sport really needs is competition. Gimmicks defeat what the real issue has been for the last 7 years.

Yeah I think I'm with you. The sprints themselves are never actually that interesting anyway, so it doesn't seem worth the messing around with who's got pole etc.

Missed the race, but it sounded great. Agree re sprints/ fastest lap too. I'm old though, just like some good old fashioned racing, no gimmicks or wanky rules. Which probably isn't possible now
