Norris not having any of the "You guys have a great car" stuff from Hamilton today 😂

Now I think they've fucked Norris, if Piastri had pitted first Lando would have probably got past him by now based on their pace this stint. Certainly looked like Lando was ultimately faster. I think people are being very harsh on the team and buying into the commentary hype a bit. You can't be clairvoyant, and they did make the right calls at the right times to get a 1-2. I think they feared Max with a tyre offset, and also thought Piastri would be able to catch or at least close up to Lando given the prior stints. As it turned out Max couldn't maintain his initial pace and Oscar couldn't match Lando. Ideally they'd have done things differently but they didn't make any egregious errors this time in my view.

Mind you, seeing things fall apart around that twat Horner is delightful. Horner pretty much telling Vertstappen to grow up and STFU was fun.

Anyway, pleased for Oscar. Always nice to have a debut winner.
Also Spa next and that's pretty much the only track I can recall him having a clear edge over Norris at. Excuse the backhanded compliment, but he might get back to back wins and not have to rely on orders.

"Mad Max" currently trending on Twitter, nothing to do with George Miller.

Short run up to T1 next race so Norris might actually end up leading out the first corner for once.

That was very interesting,
I can see both sides, team are to blame in putting both drivers in that position. They need oscar to play ball in long run. However lando has had to endure a long period of mclaren not having a winning car. He has a very realistic chance of catching max. I like to think i would have told Oscar to hold station and give lando as many points as possible.
Unless they think long term oscar is their guy....

Seems like further down the field Stroll refused to let Alonso by under similar circumstances. That slow implosion should increase at a rate of knots now. First backhanded mention of nepotism before the mid season break, 2/1

I feel for Lando a bit as it was similar to Barcelona in so far as there wasn't a great deal wrong with his reaction time or his decision making, he just got pinched by a car outside so wasn't able to defend the corner how you normally would.
It does seem like a McLaren weakness. They just don't have the launch that Red Bull does and it makes them vulnerable.
At Spa with their DRS I think Max will be leading by Les Combes if he qualifies third or higher. Arguably it's a disadvantage to get pole.

It's funny that you could pinpoint today's team radios as exactly step 18/27 in the Alonso bridge burning handbook.

He arguably should have learnt his lesson from Barcelona though and not continued to squeeze the car on the inside. He could have moved to the outside line earlier in both cases and had a better chance of taking the place right back.

That's step 28. Driving a Formula One car would be a dream come true for me but I think if someone offered me that McLaren for the day I'd say I was washing my hair.

It's funny how fine the margins are though. Oscar was mm away from taking the top 3 out by locking up and going deep at T1. He basically had Lando to thank for seeing it coming.
Imagine what the team politics would've been like if he hadn't and they'd taken 0 points instead of 42 today.

Fitting in an F1 car would do 😂 I'm the perfect height for an F1 driver, it's just the rest of my dimensions that aren't.

No penalty for Max; think Hamilton's comments after the race probably saved him.

I think I'm alright with that one and can accept the stewards explanation. A grid drop would've been too much. Although I think he should have penalty points as a deterrent, that's what they are there for to penalise consistent bad racecraft.

He lost points over it so it going down as a racing incident is pretty much punishment anyway.
Verstappen should probably shut up about blaming Hamilton though, you can't blame someone for turning at a corner while you're out of control and locked up.

Glad I didn’t watch this one live, it’s tense enough just watching the highlights even knowing the result.

Yet another race in which Verstappen does his legacy absolutely no favours. Borderline cringeworthy. Reminds me of Vettel's meltdowns.

I wonder what would have happened if Lando had swapped earlier when asked, would he have been free to race again?

I wonder what would have happened if Lando had swapped earlier when asked, would he have been free to race again? Definitely. I think they have to be told not to race each other, which could have been a possibility, but he would have likely had a window in which to attack. It would have looked worse for McLaren if they’d told him he couldn’t overtake. Fair play to Norris though. He deserves to have won more than he has and so that makes it all the more tough to give that kind of position up. But, hopefully for him in the future, Piastri will be more inclined to give up a position if Norris is ever being held up or has a chance to win.

Over a season Norris should gain more than he lost by working with Piastri rather than against him. The reality is if he is to win a title, he will need Piastri to drive for him a fair bit in next 18 months and that'll probably be worth more than 7pts. Not least because it seems like Piastri's qualifying pace is stronger than his race pace so they will often be in the 'wrong' order with Lando wanting past without losing time.
Of course the ideal for maximum WDC efficiency is to have clear number 1 status like Max has and Schumi had, where the team generally prioritise your points tally even before the Championship battle has really taken form. Fortunately McLaren have never really operated like that.

McLaren have the advantage of having two drivers capable of (almost) maximizing their potential results which means they are going to score a fair few more 1-2's between now and the end of the season. Lando bought himself a capable ally yesterday.
McLaren also need to keep Piastri sweet. He's an excellent driver and very well could be their No.1 in a few years time. Treating him like Barrichello isn't the same as using the likes of him, Massa, Perez, Bottas etc as expendable assets they have no interest in seeing be the lead guy. It would have sent a poor message to a driver a lot of teams would snap your arm off to have.
