Thank fuck for that. He so deserves it.
Until it happens you just always have that fear he could be another Brundle who never had the stars align.

Well in Lando!
Nice touch from Max too, unless he was actually just giving him the finger.

Deserved some luck and the SC getting him ahead of the Red Bulls was the only way he could've won today, despite having the pace over the lap. Delighted.

You'd think big for F1 too.
US Race and not Max winning.

I hope getting the monkey off his back takes away the unnecessary pressure that has led to him making a few mistakes over the last few years in search of that win. Has more than enough talent to get into double figures for poles/wins.

Now we have to pray that the McLaren pace was down to those upgrades rather than conditions.

Yes Lando! Great drive.
Spoilt the result for myself this morning by doing my auto check of face book, but still a great race to watch. Won on pace too!
Kevin Magnussen entering himself into the pub quiz text book with how many worth of penalties did he get over the course of the Miami Grand Prix in 2024.

The stewards gave Sainz a 5s post race penalty. It's like they've forgotten what single seater racing etiquette looks like.
Sainz did lose the rear momentarily but he was fully ahead by that point and easily kept it on track, allowing enough space for Piastri to take an outside line round the corner. Piastri opted for an acute turn in, in an attempt at the cut back. He took the risk and was just unlucky Sainz's rear stepped out at that moment. Classic racing incident. Piastri even said as much afterwards.
I get that it's not an easy job, but they are confusing everyone with their inconsistency.

No, fuck you, *you've* got something in your eye. Got quite dusty in my living room, but then I get emotional at even the most minor sporting events. Well done Lando, deserved some luck, and in the end the car was the fastest on the day. Hope he can take it to the RB's rest of the season. Only thing the raced lacked was Checo taking out the front four on the first corner. Classic iRacing move that

You'd be hard pushed to tell they were predominantly ex racing drivers. But then you have Brundle on comms claiming everything is just "good hard racing".

When I see Lando do well I always think of a lady called Diane.
Way back when, I worked a little with Adam Norris. He was a director in our small but rapidly growing company, alongside Diane. Diane decided in her late 30s that she was doing well enough to take a career break, and so was looking for someone to buy her (unlisted) company shares from her. Adam snapped them up. A few years later our company listed publicly, and the share price and his wealth went through the roof. About a year later he told everyone he was quitting his job to buy a trailer and drive his young son around the country go karting, with the aim of him becoming a Formula 1 driver.
We all laughed at the time... but Diane's son is not a Formula 1 driver.

Those comments about his respect for Trump are a bit awkward though.

The context is that Trumps team requested to visit McLaren and Liberty and the FIA strongly indicated they'd like it to happen. Zac Brown said yes out of respect for the office of the President.
I can't stand Trump and think he's a criminal but I can accept that you have some obligation to respect your host country's democracy if you willingly go there. They were in Florida which has been republican for decades. He was being polite and respectful to the hosts as a guest.
I'd respect him more if he told Trump where to go but that's not a fair expectation under the circumstances. Especially given he's 24 and not politically engaged. I'd expect Hamilton to handle it differently but he's much older, wiser and more secure in himself and that's also probably a major part of the reason why Trump's team / Liberty didn't ask Mercedes.

Norris has shown in a lot of media stuff that he's a bit of an airhead. Combined with the insular nature of F1 I wouldn't be surprised if his only knowledge of Trump is through him being a former president and some Internet memes.

Working in F1 you pretty much have to hold your nose when you're driving in shitty regimes around the world like Saudi and China on a regular basis. Not rocking the boat is par for the course, if Lewis had won I imagine he'd have avoided Trump but then the orange racist probably wouldn't want to be seen with someone so woke anyway.

I don't think Norris is thick but he essentially grew up wealthy, went to private schools and left at 13. His whole life experience to date has been in a bubble around Motorsport and online gaming/social media. His F1 future was mapped out at 16.
He's clearly got emotional intelligence but yeah you don't get the sense he's remotely interested in politics or fighting injustice. Seems to actively steer clear of controversy as much as he can. Maybe because he's so aware of and sensitive to online backlash.
I would expect him to be more worldly and outspoken as he gets older and more confident.

Ferrari's big upgrade package is due this weekend and McLaren should have more time to understand theirs plus the circuit may suit them with no really slow corners.
I'm actually starting the weekend hopeful we might have a race at the front.
Feels wrong.

Agreed, might actually watch 2nd race in a row for years. If these various team upgrades work and Perez goes further even down the grid then I'm all for it.
