They have been trying far too hard to constantly cover Verstappen, all season. They should be looking in front and trying to maximize. Defending doesn't suit them well.

But will the early stoppers need to two-stop? It definitely looks like a one-stop. But Max is flying here, and may be able to one-stop too and finish on the better tyre. Perez too. It's puzzling, McLaren looking like the team that have been winning the last 7 years today. |

Wonder if Lando and Lewis can drive through the graining and stay out long enough to switch to the soft instead of the hard. Unlikely I guess.

Haha, I credited them with looking like they'd been winning constantly earlier but they had a shitshow falling for that there.
That slow stop from Ricciardo may have just saved Mercs ass here.

Come on Lando. It is very much on from here. The Merc clearly struggles to follow and needs a tyre offset today. Lewis won't have that by the time he catches Lando so hopefully Norris can hang on.

No sign of Lewis complaining too much so suggests they wanted to play the long game and the race is starting to come Back to them. Still think it be hard for him to pass Lando though. McLarens are super quick today. |

Yeah my money's still on Lando (come on son) but second is a good result for Lewis considering where he was at the end of lap 1.

They've got a bit lucky with Ricciardo's slow stop, but they definitely would have been good value for 3rd looking at this. I still think they had a chance of winning, I think Hamilton would have had the best chance of making the early stop work with his tyre management and the Merc's pace. |
