Landooo. Always sensational in the wet.

Pity the gaps so big as Norris is 4 seconds a lap quicker than those ahead.

Perez has been sent to the shadow realm this weekend. Teammate battle indeed.

Well you start last at Monaco you're done. Perez was actually looking to have a similar pace to Max, sometimes quicker in practice.
It's not good enough for sure but he's been done by one critical error this weekend.

He's been bashing into everything all day also. He's a choke artist.

Norris's pace is still amazing. Has caught 22s on Sainz and Gasly in about 10 laps.

He's been bashing into everything all day also. He's a choke artist. If he was a pure choker he wouldn't have won in Saudi or Baku. He's always been crap in the wet. Beyond that, just trying too hard to overcome a futile situation. He did win here last year.

That is unfortunately one of those drives the dominant guys have where they just whoop everyone even when there's a glimmer of a different result. Get fucked man.
F1 fan who thought he'd lost all hope loses additional bit of hope he didn't realise he had.

The little hope I had died on Friday afternoon when it became obvious RB still had the pace on the field at the highest downforce circuit. They have the best car in every condition, high and low downforce, fast, medium and low speed corners. Hats off to them and hats off to Max for converting.

Indy 500 later. I don't even like that oval shit or their pantomime ruleset but at least the outcome will be unpredictable to me.

I remember being a bit annoyed in 2012 that the artificially degrading tyres were dictating results too much. 7 winners in the first 7 races, if I could go back I'd punch myself in the face.

Indy great as always however they had they're own "AD21" moment. Alot of people not happy and I don't blame them.

I flipped over in time to see the second to last red flag restart and it just looked like nonsense. What's the point in the previous 494 laps when you end it like that? I quite like Newgarden so was pleased for him, and thank goodness it wasn't that awful little racist Ferruci.
All a bit cheap and silly. Feel for Ericsson, he was basically sacrificed for the entertainment value in much the same way Hamilton was. I'm less clear on Indy rules but the commentators seemed to agree there was no time for a restart, then we got one.

Just need to reinterpret the long-standing rules to contrive a one lap winner takes all sprint at Le Man's and that's the full set of motorsport crown jewels cheapened.

I wonder how many team mates Stroll Jnr has to compare unfavourably with before Stroll Snr considers replacing him and not the team mate.
It's not that he's useless. He's probably a top 50 racing driver in the world, but the more competitive that car gets the more damage having him as a driver will do. It's just Red Bull, Ferrari, Merc, Alpine and McLaren all have two drivers well inside the top 20.
He's had 129 GP starts, he's unlikely to suddenly develop a rapid pace and consistency at this stage. Merc are 1pt behind them despite having a slower car at pretty much every track thus far, by virtue of having two elite drivers, not one. Surely they'll have to acknowledge the elephant in the room soon.
Also what happens when Honda want a Japanese driver in there? Can you imagine if they are the top team in F1 with Stroll and Tsunoda in the seats. I guess that would be interesting!

Thank you Sergio. Hopefully this might just be the most important image taken off an F1 car in a while. Fingers crossed

So great to see Barcelona's final sector FINALLY restored to its former glory. Let us not speak of the past 16 years again.

Just tried out Multiviewer.app in FP1. Absolutely sensational. Literally what I've always wanted from sports coverage and far more impactful than UHD, HDR and Sky's rubbish second screen which was so far behind live it's fairly pointless.

If the FP gap is anywhere near representative I feel as though we need a late call to reinstate that chicane for just Verstappen to take for the rest of the weekend.

I'm a George Russell guy but he's made up 5 places by going off track there.

Russell thinking it was raining when it was his sweat is hilarious, I must admit to have thinking something similar when I'm on a fast walk but at least that wasn't broadcast to the world.

I don't think this race tells us much tbh. They were really good here last year too with the shitbox and a few teams are very visibly underperforming this afternoon. Max is still able to gap them to an embarrassing degree on a tyre one compound harder than them. I don't think they've made anywhere near the progress it's being made out to be.

Ferrari's strategy with Leclerc this afternoon was drawn up by a 4 year old on an etch-a-sketch.
Probably a touch harsh on the 4 year old really.

Couldn't watch live today but watched it back this evening.
Does seem like the Merc upgrades have taken it forward. I doubt they are genuinely second best though.
However at Barcelona Hamilton was 'only' about 0.3-0.5 seconds a lap slower, which is light years in F1 terms but still an improvement.

They also got lucky with the track temps today by the sounds of it. As with lewis vs bottas. If anyone needs convincing how good max is just look at perez. MV would have at the very least been on the podium imo.

Sainz falling away with softs while Verstsppen is on mediums I really enjoyed the comedy of Sainz, seemingly oblivious to the lap times of the Mercedes right behind him, radioing his engineer to tell him "pace is good" and the engineer's emotionless reply "understood, pick up the pace".

I've been watching the F1 archive starting with 84 (year I was born). Hugely enjoying it. I love the even earlier stuff too but the heavily edited highlights and lack of Murray and James make it less watchable.
Another small thing we've lost was drivers having a consistent helmet colour scheme.
Used to be that your helmet design actually meant something and for the best drivers the design developed a reputation and mystique in and of itself. Changing it just wasn't done. It was your identity, like a racing passport. Keeping driver numbers is a poor substitute.
I remember learning the helmets to identify a driver, which really mattered for SD coverage. Even now some drivers are instantly recognisable.
There were also stories behind certain designs and it means more of its forever, not one race or season. Just read that Alboreto's was a tribute to his hero Ronnie Peterson.
Think it was Schumacher who struck the first blow when he changed his lid to match the Ferrari. It was a slippery slope after that. Obviously not a big deal in the scheme of things but a shame nonetheless.
