been watching a bunch of FE recently and after a bit of a boring first race it's really been picking up again. Hyperabad and Cape Town in particular have been the FE I've come to love over the past few years.

I always intend to watch and then forget it's on. Must make more effort.

I usually catch it on YouTube live but after listening to it for half hour I'm googling for Tamiya RC cars, not a problem at all tbh.

The fact that presumably expensive, professional graphic designers employed by sports teams continually manage to overlook how their new logo will look on TV is beyond me.
Alfa Romeo's looks like a sort of fuzzy squiggly H from my sofa on the timing tower and I'm surely one of a tiny percentage of a global audience watching the 4K feed on a 55" screen. I only worked out it was Alfa by process of elimination. God knows what it looks like in SD or even HD on a 32".
Admittedly if I get within 1m and squint a bit it does look great. I can read the teeny tiny text and everything.

The F3 should be good. The first 17 drivers qualified within half a second over a 1.47 lap!

Fernando Alonso doing a deal with the devil. You get: me in shit cars for 15 years. I get: a quick Aston when I'm 41 years old.

Could be another long season for mercedes. Aston Martin looking like they could fight for that 3rd team spot.
Expecting ferrari and red bull to dominate qualifying tomorrow.

The fight for third might be the only interesting action we get this season, and I'm totally here for it.

There is a potential for 2016 x 2. If perez and sainz can stay close enough, or get far enough ahead early on that will really spice things up lol.

Pourchaire's qualifying yesterday was one of the most impressive I've ever seen. 0.7s clear of P2. The same gap covered the next 18 places, and he even abandoned a faster lap at the end of the session as it wasn't required. That is crazy dominance for F2.
Pourchaire has had mega peaks before then suddenly been mediocre the next round. However this is a hell of a peak. He's quite flamboyant and emotional and reminds me a bit of Jean Alesi. Would be interesting in F1.
He's currently storming through from P10 in the reverse grid race.

Really hope Alonso's pace is real. Him vs Max for a title would be absolute box office.
Alonso has never had any qualms about using his car to make a point. Also unlike Hamilton and Leclerc, you know Alonso will make it as political as possible and talk shit to the media at every opportunity. Then you've got Stroll Snr and Horner. Basically four of the most arrogant and difficult personalities in the sport.
I don't really like any of them but it could be a cracking season for neutrals, if a bit unedifying and unpleasant.

I've paid the £21 Now TV wanker tax because I'm fed up with dodgy stream and... even with their much vaunted "boost" tech, if you dare to want to watch it USING THEIR OWN PC or MAC APP it maxes out at 720p. Not sure I'll let this renew next month. It's absolute bullshit that this is my only legit option to watch the F1 in the UK if I'm not a Sky subscriber.

That Boost thing is bullshit. Recently signed up to watch The Last of Us, thought it looked better than usual, then spotted the £5 charge after a 7 day trial.

£6 for Boost for Sports! Free for a month, but utterly pointless as I say as their Mac/Windows apps don't support it. I could use the PS5 app which apparently does Full HD, but my race-day routine is F1 on the laptop, and a game on the big monitor (home office for WFH). We're not a SPORTS! household, so I have to take my shameful hobbies to the back room.

Anyway. Annual NowTV gripes out of the way, it's great to be back.

askewI see you're also split screening with the football. My Sky Go app randomly goes super low res to the point I literally can't see what's going on, yet my (ahem) other less official sports stream is reliable and sharper. It really is piss poor. I might well go VPN and F1TV at renewal time.

Was momentarily excited by the Mercs' times then until Max switched his car on properly.

720p is probably dictated by the rights holders for playback on pc. Waste of time though, as high quality streams always seem to be available from dodgy sources.

I just can't be arsed with the adverts and a million clicks to get to a working stream. Plus, y'know, I'm funadamentally OK with paying for a thing I like to watch. But boy do they make it a hard choice!

Piastri further off then Danny Ricc was. I wouldn't normally be so harsh about a debut but you don't often get the luxury of a 3 day test at the same track you make your debut on.
Same goes for Sargent.

Red Bull pulling the old Merc trick of throwing the sandbags off in Q3. The more things change the more they stay the same.

So no surprises really. Red Bull gap Ferrari gap Aston & Merc together, then gap to everyone else.
I guess Haas being towards the front of midfield rather than towards the back is maybe the stand out.
Pleased that Williams (or anyone) aren't off the back.

Track evolution was clearly, clearly a thing in that session and they didn't think he could find a few tenths and challenge when literally everyone else was improving.
I don't see an extra set of softs doing them any good with 2 Red Bulls up front to split strategies and dictate the race.

In some ways it's probably good news that it was a classic Ferrari bad decision rather than classic Ferrari unreliability in the first competitive session of the year.

Think this is the earliest I have ever given up on a season of F1.
Verstappen on pole, immediately I have lost all interest. Having the 2nd most unlikeable person in F1 looking like he will just dominate again for the year means I can't be fucked.
