So I'm having total choice paralysis right now. I love me a bit of turn-based strategy. My most played game on Steam is XCOM2, and I also have over 100 hours in Midnight Suns, amongst others.
Steam are currently offering me the following from my wishlist:
1. Tactical Breach Wizards for £15.07 (10% off) Not a big discount, but looks right up my street - very like Chimera Squad (which I also liked). I am likely to really appreciate the humour as well. Fantastic reviews.
2. Songs of Conquest for £14.75 (50% off) Old school traditional, retro looking. Great reviews, good discount.
3. Dungeons of Dredmor for £4.68 (30% off) Roguelike, which I'm less fond of, but cheap enough I start thinking 'why not?'
4. SteamWorld Heist 2 for £16.49 (34% off) Loved the first one, currently trying to finish it to justify buying this. Superb reviews, good discount (though SteamWorld games tend to be discounted often)
5. Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader for £25.79 (40% off) I'm intrigued by this one. Never really got into 40k but it has a lot of deep lore, and it sounds like a great setting for this sort of game. Good reviews if a bit less so than some of the others, plus slightly more expensive.
Can anyone help me out here? I can't really justify just buying all of them (tempting though it is) and they will likely all be reduced again in the next Steam sale. Plus I have a huge backlog and can't possibly play them all right now. So, anyone especially recommend (or advise against) any of them? Currently I am probably leaning towards 4 and 5, but I keep changing my mind.

I can only speak for Tactical Breach Wizards, but it is very good. Personally thought the story itself was just fine, but the writing is a lot of fun.
The game does have some elements of X-Com*, but playing it feels more like Into the Breach, with a bit more of a puzzle vibe. You do have a lot of options with each character though, particularly as more abilities unlock and you start upgrading them. Plus, the levels are each handcrafted rather than procedurally generated, which is nice.
Still have a few of the challenge levels to go back and finish.
It's a pretty new game, so not surprising it doesn't have much of a discount. I bought it at release and think it had the same discount. Well worth the cost.
*Edit - never played Chimera Squad, so can only compare to the regular games.

I haven't played Songs of Conquest, but it's very much inspired by Heroes of Might & Magic in case that helps you.
Other than that Mechanicus also has a good discount. It's much more limited than Rogue Trader. More of a tactical game rather than a full-on RPG.

Tactical Breach Wizards is excellent and well worth the money, but it's likely to be cheaper in the next sale.

Rogue Trader is my game of the year, but I’m also a big ol 40k fan and a fan of the original TTRPG it’s based on. The recent expansion is super super good and most of the bugs and quirks are ironed out now.

It’s not on your list, but Battletech is the answer.

It’s not on your list, but Battletech is the answer. Already played it and finished the campaign. The DLCs are on my wish list but I’m waiting for them to be super cheap.

Not played any of them, but I'd be tempted to say grab Tactical Breach Wizards just to support the developer(s), especially considering the reasonable starting price.
I do want to play all of them, except maybe Songs of Conquest Dungeons of Dreadmoor (edit: wrong name), but that's just my personal taste.

Tactical Breach Wizards is good. Not quite as good as I was expecting given the hype (it's not quite as challenging as I'd prefer), but it's an easy recommend.
Haven't played Songs of Conquest, but I've heard good things.
I tried playing Dungeons of Dredmore, but really bounced off the art style and humour (though that's pretty subjective tbf)
I liked Steamworld Heist 2 a lot, it's an easy recommend if you liked the first one. More mission variety, better RPG systems, and the same great visual style and music. They brought the in-house band back from the first one, who only sing songs about steam, robots and sailing. It's very charming! The submarine sections kind of suck, but you can fiddle around with difficulty sliders if it's getting too annoying for you.
I have aspirations to play more than the 2 hours I've played so far of Rogue Trader, as I love Owlcat and most of their games. They're just a pretty significant time investment; I've tried at least two times to finish Wrath of the Righteous, and always run out of steam.

Thanks folks. I decided in the end that although I’d enjoy Rogue Trader, it looked more like an RPG than I was up for right now. Bought Tactical Breach Wizards and Steamworld Heist 2.
