My relatives gave us a hands-down C64, which I used until 1996 or so. I was way behind the times. By the point my parents got a family PC, almost at the same time we got a computer magazine that contained the shareware version of Quake.
Nevermind the fact that going from the 2D graphics of the Commodore 64 to the real 3D environment of Quake was mindblowing (though I did have some experience with the pack-in game Magic Carpet, but that was more in a "what the hell am I supposed to be be doing, how do you move?" way), it also means I completely skipped Doom back then. I didn't get to it until quite some time later.

Lol, one of the devs on the remaster seems like a bit of an ass. Active in a thread on doomworld and is basically implying that it's on the people experiencing issues with the mouse to find out why it's happening.

Not sure, people have been finding switching between d3d, vulkan, vsync on/off having all sorts of different effects depending on system.

Not had any issues with slowdown on Playstation yet but I do think its not quite as satisfying as the existing standalone ports gameplay wise.
It seems to play faster but that also makes it feel more lightweight and like you’re just gliding through levels.

Hang on, so can I access any Wads that anyone has uploaded?? That sounds terrifying (I assume there are now lots of Wads with dicks), but also does that mean I can play Aliens TC on my Switch? The best Aliens game ever?

As I understand it, on Switch there are fewer wads because they're... curated. I wouldn't expect any infringing Aliens stuff on there, but don't take it from me I'm just speculating.

I mantain that the quality of a Doom mod/level is directly proportional to the amount of shotgun ammo you get. Get out with that difficulty balance bullshit, I wanna use the shotgun all the time.

I've discovered just now, after so many years, that the Berserk powerup actually lasts until the end of the level. And here I always thought it was until the screen effect disappeared...

I'm deffo gonna try that, although my poor 6600 XT is probably going to melt. I'm sure you'll be able to enable most of it. It's absolutely fully customiseable with tons of options. It's a really good gzdoom version, this is. You can even play it fully normally too, or even with 50% of the screen ray traced and 50% not! Looks totally mad, but maybe useful just for comparison runs. It makes some of the lights really fucking spooky in dark areas, not to mention playing in a dark room and seeing a VERY bright fireball coming at you out of the depths!

Alas, this Doom 2 RT patch doesn't seem to work with AMD cards just yet. I keep getting an address violation error.
I suppose it could be updated in the future.

I also enjoyed Prodeus. Its like Doom 2026 with fewer kill rooms and proper pick-ups.
The quad shotgun is a very satisfying addition to the fps canon.

And that's the fourth episode done. After the incredibly annoying first two levels, the rest was no big deal.
Not sure if I should move on to Doom 2, or to Sigil first, since it's technically considered a fifth episode.
Edit: started Sigil, and it sure isn't screwing around. Only played four levels so far, and all of them finished by a hair's breadth. Ammo and health scarcity is a constant state of being.
