My copy arrived and I snuck in a couple of levels over lunch. It’s very much like Astro’s Playroom so if you liked that, you’ll love this.
…
Oh, you want more?
Well, I don’t agree that it lacks personality - there are plenty of humorous touches and loads of Easter egg references to various Sony characters. Astro Bot is undeniably cute and wonderfully animated.
It definitely seems to do that Mario thing of having loads of different one-shot ideas that never outstay their welcome and are just cool to play in the moment. Equally, there are plenty of hidden areas and I found one - so far - hidden level that you access and unlock from within another level, which in turn has hidden areas within that… basically, you’re rewarded for exploring thoroughly!
The music and visuals you can watch videos for, but suffice it to say it’s smooth and just really enjoyable to play. The DualSense haptics and speaker really do elevate it though - it uses them really well.
For me, it’s very much on track to be the equal of a Super Mario Odyssey or Galaxy.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_Gamer?wprov=sfla1But there were two in 2009!!! I don't know either of them to be honest. After my time reading, although I've probably read them elsewhere. Think the latter wrote a few things on RPS.

Think the latter wrote a few things on RPS. Hold your horses. It only lists US editors not PC Gamer UK. So looking somewhere else I believe it's Tim Edwards or Graham Smith.

It has the UK edition, along with editors, further down the page. Graham Smith wasn't until 2012 (and he used to interact with RPS readers quite a bit and always seemed great).

Played an hour or two, completing 4 levels although I missed a few bots on the way. Still has all the charm of the other games but with more gadgets.
Just what I need to relax with a big grin on my face and to get away from all the other serious games I have on the go.
Love it.

Went to play it for an hour, ended up playing for over 3 hours. It’s brilliant. Loads of fun. Take your time with everything because there’s some laugh out load funny stuff in it.

Played a couple of hours and there’s certainly a lot of creativity and feels like it’s been made by people that enjoyed making it. It’s full of lots of tiny little touches that just make it fun.
It’s not difficult at all. Once you finish a level off you go back to it you can but a guide for 200 coins that shows you were everything remaining is. I don’t Think the challenge is the appeal.

The last time we had mrs bambino and the 2 kids both glued to a game was probably Mario kart ! It’s the most Nintendo game that’s not on a Nintendo! Constant smiles and great gun play. Joy all round

Loving the levels themed around particular games. The Ape Escape one was cute, but the God of War level was absolutely brilliant. Just wish those levels were maybe a bit longer - but then, I guess at least they don't outstay their welcome! Edit: Holy shit, just did the Uncharted level, with cover shooting mechanics (gunplay!) and a big action set piece finale (joy!!) I'm fucking calling it: this is my game of the year. Sorry, Shadow of the Erdtree.

Controller turned up yesterday. “Delivered” by DPD which meant they left it outside the door and the outer box was crushed to shit. Testament to the inner packaging for the controller as it survived and no-one nicked it which I was naturally worried about.
Controller itself is a thing of beauty and if it comes up again and you need another it’s well worth getting!

White thumbsticks are going to look nasty after a few years. I always try to play with clean hands and don't have any rugrats with their grubby hands, but the original white controller gets grubby so quicky.
