Enjoying this a lot so far. Feels more like HW1 than HW2 in many respects, although I can't really get my head around the removal of sub-system targeting - feels like a bit of a backwards step.
Campaign is fun, although there does seem to be an awful lot of of giant obstacles which make the mission areas feel more cramped than previous games and I'm not massively keen on the 'capture and hold' mechanics that turn up in various missions - feels like a bit of a cheap contrivance that's spilled over from the multiplayer modes, honestly.
Currently hit a wall on Mission 9, which I'd say is the first big difficulty bump in the campaign. Looking forward to giving it another go with a fresh strategy tonight!

Saw this had suddenly come out. Steam reviews were mixed though, so wasn't sure if it turned out rubbish or if people were just picking up some minor issues.
Good to hear some positive response. Played the original a long, long time ago and really loved it. Don't think I ever played the sequel.
Always good to see a new RTS. I've recently been playing some SC2 with a friend and realised just how much I've missed the genre. Modern attempts don't seem to have captured the magic or haven't received the audience, so fingers crossed this has some life to it.

Homeworld 1 is just so epic. 2 also great.
I really wanna try the one they brought out for Quest before I try HW3 on my ageing PC and end up splurging on a 4090 and new i7 and mobo.

I liked all the previous games in their own way.
The first one is iconic.
Cataclysm (essentially HW 1.5) is much more tense and genuinely quite horrific at times (it's also now available as Homeworld: Emergence on GoG).
I never really understood the slightly cool reception to HW2 as I think it's up there with the first game and has some handy QoL improvements.
Deserts of Kharak is a great spin on the series, taking the story from space to the surface of a planet. It really does feel like a Homeworld game and fits into the universe perfectly.
Not played Vast Reaches as I don't own a Quest (and have zero chance of borrowing my daughter's), but if it ever comes to PC VR I'll certainly give it a shot.

Didn't realise this was even out. HW1 was one of the few RTS I loved.
Not sure when I'll get around to #2 though. Hope it's good anyway.

HW1 was the best because it was so fresh when it was new. Then Cataclysm (Emergence) was great because of the story. HW2 was technically way above both, but a bit lacking story-wise. Multiplayer was great, though.
I couldn't really get warm with Deserts of Kharak. I recently uninstalled it, but I kept the saves. Maybe I'll get back to it some day.

This is getting absolutely hammered on Steam by negative reviews. Seems most of the complaints are Denuvo or performance related and some folks are just disappointed by the simplification of some of the gameplay elements compared to previous games.
However, there also seems to be a very vocal section of the community who have branded HW3 as WOKE (both the protagonist and antagonist are female *shudder*) and are looking to punish Gearbox/BBI for it.

Wow. That's a perfect storm of Steam hate right there. Denuvo + Performance + Simplification + Females.
Seriously though, how woke can can RTS about giant starships possibly be?!

I will say that the story is presented in a way completely different to previous games in the series. They've opted for CGI cut scenes focussing on the principle characters and it's much more of a personal story with a sort of 'Marvel Superheroes' vibe going on, so I can understand people not being massively fond of it as the change in tone from the rest of the series is really quite jarring.
But then, I can also understand why they've done it this way - it's been 25 years since HW1 and modern audiences expectations have changed. It hasn't detracted from my enjoyment of the campaign.

I didn't play Deserts of Kharak (yet), but I got the feeling that might have been a more personal story based on the main character.
A lot of the complaints did seem to be about the story being more Teen/YA and more personal, but without trying it I can't say if I'd like that or not.
