Oblivion remake mod project for Skyrim that's a year or two away from completion:
The scale is about 40% bigger than Oblivion, all dungeons are unique and redone, Cities expanded while trying to remain lore friendly.
An incredible effort by this mod team, the update videos are well produced and entertaining, too.

Bethesda will probably release a broken patch for Skyrim the day before this comes out too.

There is that rumoured Oblivion remaster a Microsoft studio is working on according to a leak a while back, which sounds like it's the Unreal 5 graphics engine running on top of the Oblivion game. Sort of like how the Halo remasters work with an additional graphical layer on top.
This mod is going to blow it out the water, assuming the remaster will see the light of day.

It's going to be weird to have that level of graphical fidelity running with that janky animation system in the background.

The Diablo II remaster shows that you can fix janky animations. That ran internally at something odd like 23fps but the remaster looked totally modern and switching between them was eye opening.

Yes. But that wasn't Bethesda.

If Skyrim is just a big pretty forest, and oblivion is just a big pretty forest, isn't Oblivion in Skyrim basically going to be Skyrim?

I really hope not, because Oblivion is ancient as hell these days, and absolutely needs mods to at least fix the enemy scaling system.
