Well… I’m at an insanely hard boss fight. There’s two of them in the snow. And it’s impossible. Is it Naosuke Ii and the Blue Demon? I got past that one not long ago, it's tough but not overly bad IMO.
Make sure you're using an effective stance against the one you're fighting (you'll know from the arrows, up is good), don't feel pressured to always go for deflects (dodging red attacks and/or blocking otherwise is perfectly fine) and, much like Nioh, don't neglect your items. Buffing yourself is obviously helpful, you can have an extra three healing items with the other medicine type you can buy or craft and adding paralysis (for the decreased ki recovery and forced stagger when fully applied) or poison and fire (for the DoT) can also be a big help.
And when they go into Ki Blaze, taking one of them out of it by depleting their Ki (once again, paralysis should be a big help there) gets them both out AFAIK, so focusing on one of them is even more important

But Junior... I struggle to open a bag of crisps with my old age... let alone trying to attempt to switch between multiple stances, with two bosses. I'll take your advice and give it another go

That one took me a few tries. What did it in the end was a combination of stopping trying to be clever in the Hayabusa style and just picking one which had the blue arrow, and also using my pistol more.

I just beat them first time this morning, thought it was pretty easy.
If you haven't already I would really recommend working through the dojo fights, they really teach how to parry and stuff properly.

Defensively, the more you fight against the same styles the more you'll recognise their moves for parries etc too. At some point you'll just download them and be fine.

You've beaten everything From has produced in Soulslikes except Isshin, sue me for thinking pressing an extra button for a Ki pulse every once in a while should be easy for you

Ah shazbot There was no way I was going to spare Naosuke Ii at the end of chapter one when given the choice. But I did wonder if this would affect things later, given I spared Gonzo earlier in the game and he became an ally. So I checked. Turns out if you do spare him it doesn't really make a difference to faction loyalty etc. but Akikatsu Manabe won't become an ally later. That doesn't matter, I suppose, unless, like me, you've decided to platinum the game: you're locked out of a trophy unless Manabe becomes an ally.
Thank God for the Testament of the Soul, I guess.

On another note, I can't believe I've only just completed chapter one, 35 hours in. I'm guessing two and three must be shorter.

I think my 30 hour limit on a game has been reached. Going to have a break on this one.

Yeah me too but around the 45 hour mark. Think I spent too much time in the first zone. Which is a shame as the areas keep getting more interesting.

I'm being a lazy cunt and playing it on easy. Probably is a bit too easy tbh but I will take that over a stressful experience.
Bit of a shocker looks wise but the combat is great.

Turn the difficulty up, the graphics improve too. They got so much stick for the ninja dog pink ribbon shenanigans back in the day that blurry textures and chuggy frame rate is how they punish those who opt for easy now.

Lies, and I CBA to turn the difficulty up as it will end up annoying me and that's not the sort of thing I'm after at the moment.

Speaking of lies, boy, this 20-hour game is sure taking a bit longer than that, innit? Just entered Kyoto and made my full alignment choice, keeping anti-shogunate mostly because I didn't feel like changing allegiances. Can't say I wasn't tempted to join the Shinsengumi instead though, tbh... That's what the Testament is for I guess, good thing this is a videogame

Must say I'm really enjoying the 3rd zone. 10 years ago I was in Kyoto for a couple of weeks and seeing the landmarks, the bridges and that temple district east of the river back then has been great.

I'm really looking forward to Kyoto / chapter 3. I'm pretty sure I'm getting towards the end of Edo as most areas are 100% and there are relatively few missions popping up. I've been focusing on developing my bond with as many NPCs as possible as the rewards for maxing these are usually pretty great.
I may break it off with Usugumo Dayu as she's being a bit of a clingy cat lady right now...

Cat lady is pretty much the only one that's almost completely uninvolved in any fighting or skulduggery (except that one cat commission where you basically send a team of them to assassinate a cat-hating priest or something) so she's a welcome reprieve

Anyway, I'm actually done (vague talk, no big story spoilers) with Kyoto (took less time than I thought) and am now back at Edo, where everything's gone to shit... including out-of-universe? You see, parts of Edo have now been taken over anew, with new public order disturbances and criminals... Which is all well and good, except the areas that weren't supposed to be taken over have also respawned their public order disturbances, with their original levels (i.e. some dozens lower than my current level and that of the intended new disturbances), and with some enemies (I'm assuming some elites or criminals that were there) pre-killed, even! I can only guess it's an unintended side effect of the actual new takeovers. I don't even mind all that much, it's just more experience and loot, it's just weird how obviously erroneous it is

The story on this is ridiculous, oh you just killed 200 of my friends and beat the shit out of me, how naughty of you. Would you mind going and killing 200 of my enemies for me.

I was surprised at how little the faction choice matters in the grand scheme of things, tbh. I wasn't expecting any alternate histories or anything, but I'd have thought that at least in chapter 3 when you make the big choice, the other faction's side quests (if not necessarily their areas) would be completely locked out... Some of them still were, but a rather large amount stayed available

Oh, and pertaining to my spoiler further above there's enemies talking to nobody in the unintended respawns (I'm guessing they were originally talking to the enemies that actually stayed dead)... And the weather switched from chapter 3 snow to chapter 2 sunny when I cleared one of the error disturbances, and is now back to snowy again. It's still funny, and it doesn't actually affect anything adversely as far as I can tell, your collection rate goes back to 100% once you re-clear them and you get more stuff... But it's still a "how did they not notice this" screw-up

I'll reserve judgement - just made it to Kyoto but not done anything there yet.

It's honestly the only really big bug I've seen so far, otherwise it's been smooth sailing apart from the occasional pop-in and one or two "AI was off its meds" moments that, let's face it, pretty much no game (of this scale) is entirely free of

I have seen one of those giant blokes get stuck in a wall and start pulsing at 200 mph.
Made him easier to kill though.
