I think I was playing difficulty 6 or 7 and two missions in a row against bugs seemed to have endless waves of medium sized enemies. It always occurred around half way through the mission and it was relentless. How do we avoid this happening? I know there are reinforcement types but this hasn’t happened before today where no matter where you went it was mental, at one point I got on a high point they could not reach and in every direction were bugs coming towards me. Run away!

Made the jump up to suicide mission over the last couple of nights and it's really reinvigorated it. Been lucky I think to get some excellent randoms. Spears, railguns and orbital lasers make light work of hordes of even big bugs.

Prob had one of the best multiplayer experiences there with Helldivers. Finishing a close fought campaign against the clock as the countdown was on for the whole community to defend Mort from being overrun. Me and 3 randoms finished right before the cut off point. So many good moments, personal highlight being covering for someone running away, mowing the automatons down on the crest of a hill with a machinine gun covering him. Fought like hell, escaped by the skin of our teeth no less and once back we checked the status afterward and the planet was successfully defended. Cue me and this squad of 3 other random people giving the full military hoo-rah speak and giving bro hugs

I've felt that playing solo in this feels like MGSV* but hadn't done a close comparison, I think Arrowhead are clear fans.
*I've also long wished that MGSV had co-op, I wasn't much of a fan of MGS Online but a 4 player co-op mode would have been awesome. Survive's co-op was pretty half-arsed but still quite fun.

There's also this article comparing MGSV with Helldivers from beloved erstwhile EG writer Jeff Matulef Edwin Evans-Thirwell. Worth a read.

Quite happy with that, I wasn't even aiming down sights.

When playing with friends this is 10/10. Today had a bad of terrible team mates and two crashes quite near the end of the long mission. Not quite a 10 during these moments. This really does have those epic natural cinematic moments nearly every round. My current limit for fun is hard difficulty, I think that’s number 5 or 6. The next one up just makes me angry. I one hundred percent die more to team mates than the enemy

I can say with confidence that if I play with randoms I will never unlock difficulty 7. It's like splatoon salmon run, people get dumber the higher the difficulty goes.

See I have had a different experience with randoms in that actually unlocked levels 7 and 8 with no comms strangers. Guess I’ve been lucky.
Have just unlocked helldive level tonight though, I believe with some fontgeekers, great games!!

I feel I'm ready for a harder difficulty now, maybe not Helldive though. Hopefully be on later tonight for a few games.

I pulled in some Destiny chums for it. It's funny how much easier it is that way, in fact for the most part we just fucked off our own ways and cleared the 40 minute missions completely in under 20 mins each. Makes a difference when your teammates aren't burning all the revives in the first 5 minutes and have no clue how to deal with larger threats. Friend caught this moment where I took out 2 bile titans in one SEAF Artillery shell streamable.com/auqe5q

I'm sure they will be releasing new content but it's been less than a month out and I would think they would like to iron out some kinks first.
Let them breathe a little. It's been an intense launch for them.

Had my first "friendly" equipment stratagem stuck to my personal shield generator and unlike a lot of footage on the internet I didn't run around screaming in a panic, I just dropped my backpack and stood to one side. Simple!
Now if it was an Eagle strafing run then you've probably not got time to get out of the way so be careful with those and people's shields!

I watched a couple of vids suggesting strategies to level up solo. Basically look for the Disable Propaganda Broadcast mission. Run in, shut it down and get the hell out in order to get the bonus xp based on time remaining. I've done this a few times and found out works quite nicely. One time I was paired with randoms who were searching for side quests. I was called a cunt on the voice chat when they realised I was taking the shuttle without them... Possibly a bit cunty, but I was doing them a favour!!
This video also recommended getting the grenade launcher and using it lots!

Any particular reason why you extracted when they were mopping up? Unless the timer is really short or you're on harder difficulties leaving without doing the side objectives is missing out on bonus reqs and XP. Not bothering to do them later on is fine as once you hit a certain point reqs and XP don't really mean anything. Stalker lairs are an exception, they're a priority target no matter what. Fenrir III is quite a nice biome, like a lunar landscape with the craters and the colour scheme, on Helldive it really is hellish though.

Whizzo , I'm not saying you are wrong in your questioning but what I really love about Helldivers 2 is the fun part of it. Worrying about min-maxing every drop brings in the fucking goons that will start moaning about teamkills etc. Not every drop has to be perfect, sometimes, time is limited due to playtime, dinner is on the table. When every helldiver is expecting to rinse the whole map, is when this game starts dying and the rage increases.

I'm not saying every mission needs to be absolutely rinsed but I was questioning why anyone would just extract if the rest of the team was doing stuff that seriously outweighs the minimal bonus you get from the extraction timer? If people have got a lot of samples they all get tossed as well and that certainly isn't great if you need them.
If you want to level up solo, set the game to friends only and set your PS5 online status to offline and no one will even know you're playing.

The video I watched suggested that the bonus from the extraction timer outweighs the side quests, so get out ASAP. Seems I got it wrong.

Also, unless I've missed something, XP is not worth worrying over. It's a pretty quick ride to level 20 and after that *shrugs*. It's so good for just having fun. Even the unlock trees are mostly pointless shit, although I do appreciate the stamina booster. The req slips are given out so generously too.

Indeed once you hit 20 level means nothing while reqs still do but then you'll end up buying everything and reqs will now mean nothing (and you'll hit the 50K limit, something to buy your exosuit with at least when they come out) but samples still will do (even commons as you'll burn through them even when you're hunting supers), then eventually they'll also become something you'll not have anything to use them on but that'll probably change.
As for the timer score it's 1XP and 4 Req per percent of timer left, it doesn't change through difficulty, optional objectives are 50/200 and each Helldiver extracted is 20/50 so you'd really have to go quick to make it worthwhile.
It's quite funny when you jump into a game and get a 98% timer bonus if they're just about to extract.

At the point with two friends where extreme is a good fun difficulty, the one after is too serious for such a fun game. Just hit lvl 20 as well so finally have that sweet rail gun for the bugs. Straight away I also unlocked all the lvl 20 strategens as I’d saved up loads as there are quite a few upgrades I’d ignored.
Oh man I hate it when players use the rover and to a lesser degree the mortar sentry. I just unlocked the emp mortar. Is it any good? I’ve never seen it used but I can imagine is good on bots.

Bought the game late last night. The default WASD layout is a pain in the arse.

Yea it is! I haven’t bothered to change it and have now got used to it. Still great game and hopefully you enjoy it. Hit rank 26 and it becomes even greater when you unlock the high difficulties. They really need a balance patch, there is only one viable primary and a couple of support weapons, all others feel like nerf guns.

Played two missions, one just me against some Automatons, another paired with 3 randos against Bugs. Enjoyed both.

Standard developer patch where they have nerfed the two best guns in the breaker and rail gun instead of beefing up the other weapons. It feels good to have powerful weapons in a game not make everything weaker.
The shield is also needed. The breaker, rail gun and shield were the only sensible ways to beat impossible. I’ll just stick to lower difficulties then I think.

The patch also adds new planet hazards like meteor showers and fire tornadoes. Only on pc atm, ps5 to follow.
