I'd love for someone to explain the appeal of Cody, because I don't get him at all. His character/actions were overly confusing and contradictory within AEW. We're only a few months from Brandi deciding to light up a table for Cody to botch/go through the table, which was completely random. The promo he came back with tonight felt genuine regarding his dad, and sure he has unfinished business in WWE and he probably will fit more inline with what WWE produce. But I do have this feeling of him being a bit fake, and I'm curious as to why no one else really sees this.. The appeal WAS that he left WWE, made his dream match list and fulfilled it. He built his name on being anti sports entertainment and latched onto the burgeoning indie scene. At the first aew ppv he got over doing that whole HHH throne smashing routine. The crowd identified with him. His theme song encapsulated this "punk rock" outlook. And then he held TK up for more money, didn't get it so went back to WWE with all the cache he had built up from his fake little hiatus.

The Rhodes carny flows through that family. It's funny he built this whole persona of highlighting how bad staff and talent were treated in WWE and then he just takes a mega paycheck to go back lol.
His best time was in NJPW but he became so stale in AEW it was actually embarrassing towards the end espeically the baby revival stuff.

Did he really hold TK up though? He worked for them without a contract trying to sort stuff out.

He probably put his foot down and said I want to be champion, and the face of AEW. I'm sure it didn't help that TK brought in a bunch of potential main eventers, which knocked Cody down a bit.

I remember thinking back in WWE, just before he had the Stardust gimmick pushed on him, Cody was one of the best in the company. But then my other top picks were Cesaro and Wade Barrett and look how that turned out.
I admire how he tried his hardest with the Stardust gimmick and made it much more fun than it had any right to be, even if it ran out of juice way before he left. It has to be said that post-neck tattoo Cody hasn’t really turned my head much.

Pretty sure Rhodes said he would never compete for the AEW title but then he still wanted the spotlight. The fact he went over Black and a few others made literally no sense and he kind of became a fans boo boy at the end due to his reluctance to turn heel.

Yeah true he lost to Jericho so he could never challenge again, which I found odd at the time.. even more odd is this promo which has aged pretty badly
Just bizarre it's not even that long ago.

Things might work out for him this time mainly due to the total lack of talent in WWE. However, he lost all the good faith he built over the years highlighting the abuse and awful work conditions by going back.

Wow. WWE really doesn’t like it when wrestlers get themselves over, do they?

But he didn't. That whole character was manufactured. What's dumb is he got so big they decided just to kill him.
No segment has got as much heat as that one with Owens. Walk With Elias was massive and then it was just.. bye.
Which actually makes it all dumber.

No one got bigger reactions than Elias for a while. He’s on the list with Rusev, Damian Sandow, Ty Dillinger, and Bad News Barrett as guys who captivated crowds but for one reason or another just couldn’t get a push.

He'll be running into doors like Shawn Stasiak soon.

So good seeing Joe back and I hope he gets a decent run. They really need to stop the Hardys doing table matches.

I think Tony needs to stop booking matches with tables non-stop.. can we not save something for a PPV?

Agreed - needs to cut down on the blading too.
That FTR/Bucks match was absolutely fantastic.

Joe was my favorite back when I was actually watching this stuff. Sorry to hear he got injured and never really got the top level run he deserved.
(we're talking about Samoa Joe, right?)

Yeah, it's a damn shame Joe never had that long run/reign.
His character and promo work have done nothing but improve as he's aged. Unfortunately his body decided to go the opposite way.

I can't believe it was 2015 he made his debut in NXT. I was thinking the other day that I really missed the golden NXT years. A nice hour NXT weekly show, followed by a Takeover every so often.

If Joe has stayed healthy he would have had a main title run. One of the few who looks like a legit threat to guys like Brock

Really didn’t like how he was just another guy they fed to Roman Reigns. Even if he took it in his stride. Still remember the promo he cut in the ring about it being a Pyrrhic victory. Really good stuff.

I remember watching TNA mainly for him, and then he left (to WWE?) and I kinda stopped watching wrestling.

Roman walking slowly to the ring saying big dog is probably the programme for the next 3 months.
