Best show: Reservation Dogs
Thanks to the Disney+ upload cycle the UK got seasons 2 and 3 of RD this year. I cannot say enough good things about this programme. I know the creator has said its over for good but I hope we get to revisit the reservation again at some point.
Runner-Up: Jury Duty
Tipped onto Freevee with zero promotion and it turned out to be one of the funniest shows in a long time.
Honorable Mentions: The Bear, The Last of Us, Mike Judge’s Beavis & Butthead
Hidden Gem: Captain Lazerhawk A Blood Dragon Remix
Supposedly a spin-off anime for the Far Cry 3 dlc but its actually a far wilder show full of Ubisoft characters and cameos.
Biggest Disappointment: Futurama
I know the bar for a streaming revival of a 20 year old show shouldn’t be very high but this was truly shit and easily accounts for most, if not all, of the all time worst Futurama episodes. It was like the writers hadn’t even watched the show before and just guessed what the show must be about having seen some memes once.

Was Andor really 2022? Fuck time is flying fast and I'm achieving very little to nothing.
I have high hopes for Reacher 2. Will watch and report back!

Following The Guardian's top 50 TV shows of the year has given me a big list of shows that I need to catch up on. So far, I've watched The Change and A Small Light from the list. Both early entries in their selection, but both excellent. Also watching Ghosts, but starting from the first season, so can't comment on this year's season. Been finding it very enjoyable, so good to hear it remains good through out.
Standout shows I watched during the year have to include
Succession - There were some really fantastic episodes, particularly the election one and the final one.
The Last of Us - just an incredible adaptation. Really managed to stick with the tone and nailed it all the way through.
The Bear - another really strong season. I do think some sections dragged a little, but some of it was sublime. Fishes was probably the best episode of television this year, even if it was an excruciating watch.

I can’t believe Otto Frank in A Small Light was Sabretooth

Snowfall S6 even though it lost its way in S5 and never fully recovered. Still a pretty satisfying end to an overall pretty great show.
The Bear S2. Fucking hell that middle episode was stressful!
Res Dogs S3. Still in my head after finishing it a week ago. Excellent stuff
TLOU too.

Star Trek Picard S3.
I've watched better TV this year, but none that made me as happy.

Probably, there's a couple of things that happened in the previous seasons that affect the storyline but not majorly. It's mostly nostalgia anyway, getting the old crew together etc.

I think I enjoyed Doctor Who more than anything on TV since Peter Capaldi punched that wall.

Foundation S2 - really improved from S1, less jumpy, more consistent across the story threads

Would I enjoy s3 if I hadn’t seen the previous seasons? There are, basically, three major plot points you may want to wiki but a one liner gets you most of the way there Rikers kid died so he threw himself back into work Seven of Nine is kinda gay and the best character in the entire franchise now Picard died of a space disease and came back as a robot

Yeah, when they first originally announced Picard was coming back for a solo series season 3 is basically what everyone wanted. No one wanted or enjoyed what season 2 gave us

Succession went out on such a high and was consistently brilliant so it will be that. The Bear s2 was also incredible, stressful and had real stand out episodes. Barry wrapped up with a great final season. And The Last of Us was a relief in that it was a great adaptation of the game.

Succession, The Bear, Last of Us, Interview with the vampire, Barry, Lioness and Colin from Accounts.
Biggest disappointments: everything Marvel (although not a surprise) except some of Loki.

Succession and Barry for me. Haven't really watched too much TV this year still waiting on Andor, HOTD and Severance

Hard to see past The Bear and The Last of Us as much as I'd love to throw a curveball in I can't think of anything else up there.

Pretty certain Severance was last year. I assume we are getting season 2 in 2024?

My votes in these things tend to be the most recent things, as I don't remember what I've watched/played before that.
I'm not sure I've watched many 2023 shows this year. Not even gotten around to the new-nuWho yet.
I was gonna pick The English or Wednesday, but I just looked back and mentioned them in the 2022 edition of this thread! Though I think I didn't actually finish The English until Jan 2023 and it was good.
The other thing that I mentioned last year was Harley Quinn, and I finally watched S3 (2022) and it was great. I've only seen 2 eps of S4 (2023) so far as it only just came onto all4.
So I'll probably have to go for Poker Face, which I'm currently watching, despite only watching 4 eps so far. It's like Columbo but with more black comedy and a lot more swearing.
