After some health issues recently the GP told me to cut out caffeine and alcohol completely, despite my protestations that "I don't drink much, and never drink during the week".
This got me thinking about my claims.
I drink 4-5 cups of tea/coffee a day on average, it doesn't sound like much but actually the decaf replacements I've had over the last week have been fine. I was pleasantly surprised (once I'd got over the headaches).
I don't drink Mon-Thurs as a rule but then I do tend to hit it harder on Friday-Saturday, a few beers, vodka red bull, some rums a gin or 2 or 3. If there's football on Sunday often means a bottle of red and several large rums.
What I've realised is that my "no drinking during the week" means I'm basically bingeing at the weekend. Not only that, but I think I'm actually doing it out of habit.
I grabbed a few 0% beers for the weekend and you know what... I didn't really miss the booze at all.
Any recommendations for 0% stuff? It's definitely gotten better compared to when there was a choice of Becks Blue or...water.

Corona is one of the better ones I've found (it's quite refreshing). Same goes for Heineken.
The one that tastes most like it's alcholic counterpart is Becks Blue but it depends if you're a fan of Becks in the first place (I wasn't).

What's the Guinness 0% like anyone? I'm guessing same consistency but bland tasting?

Any recommendations for 0% stuff? It's definitely gotten better compared to when there was a choice of Becks Blue or...water. Free Damm is great and has less of that AF aftertaste imo. Brooklyn have a decent one, some of the athletic brewing ones are nice. All can be found in a regular supermarket. Brewdog Nanny state is nice if you want a more malty one, some have ipa's for more hops. There's a really decent selection you just need to try a fair few until you find ones you like. erdinger and Hoegaarden/leffe have some weiss-y ones that are very drinkable too. Don't even think about the budweiser one, it's vile.

Spot who's had to drive early on saturdays/sundays to transport kids about the place for football a lot over the last 10 years...

+1 for Heineken. Seems to be the best readily available option. Free Damn can be a bit harder to find, but is a definite favourite.
Guinness 0 is well worth a try too.
Loads more options if you go up to 0.5%, but that feels like a bit of a cheat to me even if your body will probably be processing the alcohol quicker than you can drink it.

My favourite AFs not mentioned:
- Heineken. It's not quite as nice as Free Dam but decent enough and crucially available in lots of pubs. - Beavertown Lunar Haze - the closest to Neck Oil that I've found, just expensive. - Brewdog Hazy AF - quite grapefruity but hits the spot. - Ghost Ship AF - can't quite match the original but a decent enough bitter of that's what you're after.
Doh, missed Heineken.
Re 0.5% apparently that's the same alcohol content as a ripe banana. So counts in my book. Also likely to be more naturally brewed. Heineken has "natural flavouring" added. Hmm.

I prefer the 0.5's. No more alcoholic than ripe fruit apparently and generally taste a wee bit closer to what I'd prefer to be having too!
Martini have a 0.5% Aperitivo that's quite close(ish) to a negroni, so hits that spot too. Socialising definitely doesn't have to stop.
Venues for gigs run out of the 0% beer all too often though, which is annoying if you're having to drive.

Lucky Saint is the best AF I've tasted. But like all of them, after two or three they just start to taste wrong.

The lager was nice (probably 2nd behind Free Damm) but was disappointed with the hazy.

I’m trying to cut down, I still think there’s a dearth of good “adult” drinks, with flavour and some sort of interest to look forward to, out there. But I guess the market drives it.
Guinness is probably my fave, I think I’d need a regular one next to it to see the difference.
Avoid 0% wine and cider like the plague.

I got a bottle of AF rum as I missed rum and ginger beer the most out of anything. Avoid that too. Utter pish! Think there's still 2/3 of a bottle left a year later.
The number of options have definitely exploded in recent years.

The IPA style AF beers work the best imo, the excessive hops help cover up what’s missing. Beavertown does a good one. I like the Erdinger beer also, it works because it doesn’t try to taste like any other beer and is just quite pleasant in its own right. Guinness 00 works for the same reason as the IPAs

Both of them taste like watery plague. Wine is the one thing I desperately miss, especially with food. Inevitably I have lapsed the last week or so and I think mostly that's because I had run out of AF beer (Lidl stopped selling Free Damm in February...). Still a vast reduction from before mind you!

Thanks for the recommendations everyone.
Shame the rum is considered shit, I was hoping that would be alright considered how sweet it is anyway. Damn.

In fairness there may be better options out there, this was just something I grabbed in the supermarket without looking at any reviews first.

Todays my danger day, the school where the kids do football training in winter don’t let parents watch so all the dads pile into the pub next door. I have best intentions all day to stick to AF but more often than not end up having 3 pints of guinness

I weirdly find Sunday is when I get the strongest urges to drink, as having to go back to work just makes me feel weary and I want to try and drag the weekend on longer.

I tried Guinness 0% last year, when I unexpectedly found myself in the position of designated driver - it was pretty good, in fairness, and I'm not sure I would've been able to tell the difference between it and the regular stuff.

I have had to stop Neck Oil now after a good 5 or 6 years of it being my go to beer in all pubs. I just cannot handle the price they are charging for it , it’s entered they are taking the piss territory.

Our local has just hiked the prices up of pints to stupid amounts. Because we are about 10mins from stonehenge and they've got rooms to rent it's getting really popular with tourists. Basically don't care if anyone from the village goes now.

I've just done my online shop for the fortnight. It was about £50 cheaper than usual.

I just cannot handle the price they are charging for it , it’s entered they are taking the piss territory. That's Heineken for you. It honestly seems like they're trying to make it purposefully unviable, it's gotten more expensive on draught and in shops and I just don't think it's as nice as it used to be, maybe it's just in my head but I remember it being better than it is now. I don't actually mind paying more if it's a good beer, but it currently doesn't match the pricetag.

It's definitely changed taste, just smacks of homogenisation. Still my go to in our local (£6) but I refuse to buy it at home as it's so much more expensive than other, slightly inferior beers like Hazy Jane.
