Details of the No Return mode are dropping and PS Access have a lot of footage with the Remastered director answering questions, looks well worth the upgrade cost.

The £10 upgrade cost doesn't seem to be available on the UK yet? Thought it would be as pre-order is now live. Ah just checked, you can only do this from the 19th Jan. No worries, in no rush

But... But... What if they run out? I might've gone looking for it yesterday unsuccessfully

I realised my error almost immediately. I'm very excited about the No Return mode and replaying the main game again so got caught up in my giddyness. wHaT iF tHeY rUn OuT oF dIgItAl CoPiEs ThO...

Well if they do at least the price of the physical version is 45 quid so cheaper than most first party releases.
If they run out of digital copies, which could happen...

Nooooooooooooo!
I fucking loved Factions, was looking forward to a new version. However, totally understand the decision and support it; especially as they are exceptional at building story driven single player games.

So Last of Us Online was actually real. Well they did release some concept art for it so it wasn't a secret! It was something I'd been looking forward to but clearly they're not able to do it and Naughty Dog aren't going to hand it over to anyone else. I'd imagine anything that has already been created will get repurposed for TLoU3. Shame, TLoU x The Division could have been fun.

Why they couldn't have just made actual Factions 2, instead of trying to make some sort of MMO hybrid bullshit is absolutely beyond me. I guess conventional multiplayer sections to SP games without all that seasonal, monetized-to-the-gills bullshit are just dead at this point.

I'd give the multiplayer to another studio

I'm actually glad it's panned rather than releasing something substandard.
Given their standards have always been excellent they just didn't need to. Fair play giving it a shot. Even more respect for binning it if it was poor.

There’s probably real urgency to get the third game made before (or at lease in time for) the third TV season.

Even more respect for binning it if it was poor. Eh? It was cancelled because they didn't want to pivot to being a live service studio.

Yeah, but it was obviously lacking something. The rumours about it being frozen due to external feedback are already there, and frankly you don't end development on a project that is looking like it's going to do the business. The public facing reason is fair but it doesn't disprove any issues with the game, it just doesn't explicitly state it. The impact on pivoting the studio into a different machine is a thing, fo sho, but I suspect the impact in getting this thing up and out is part of it.

I'm also delighted they did not become solely a live game studio!
They are one of the best if not the best story driven action adventure game studios out there so why would you turn your back on that and go chance your luck in a far more fickle section of the games market?
Microtransation heavy live games suck!

It's not believable that they suddenly woke up one morning and decided that their multi-year strategic shift to GaaS was wrong. They tried it. It was shit. They're ditching it. There are multiple projects in dev, as they've said, so it's not like they'd abandoned single player games anyway. This is just face saving. Whatever the project was, it wasn't passing muster. But yeah - I'm delighted that they won't be "doing a Rocksteady" and tanking one of the best studios in the business just due to chasing after those lovely, lovely, GaaS Bucks.

I’m sure there is also a spreadsheet/Venn diagram that shows even fans of the show and the single player don’t give a shit about it much less constantly put coins into the slot

Really hope ND try something new instead of another TLOU and/or Uncharted.

Chasing after GaaS money just seems so risky particularly in this day and age of 5+ years for dev cycles. By the time they've got around to releasing something the market has potentially moved on

I mean it already has. Nowadays a gaas launches, people make fun of it for a week for being a buggy, rip-off piece of shit, they release the JPG apology and then shut the servers down before the first square in the ‘roadmap’ is ticked.

Really hope ND try something new instead of another TLOU and/or Uncharted. They did say as much in that release "We have more than one ambitious, brand new single player game that we're working on here at Naughty Dog, and we cannot wait to share more about what comes next when we’re ready." At least that's what I took from brand new, but it's the more than one that excites me most, so I'd very much welcome a TLoU part 3 and something new.

Put a bit of time into No Return, only played a couple of stages in a "set to the lowest difficulty" run as I try to remember the bloody controls. Looks like it'll have a lot of replayability and there's a lot to unlock.
If anyone got the plat for the PS4 version, I certainly didn't have it, congratulations on another one as the trophies started pinging off as soon as I imported my last autosave from the PS4 game.
I chose the last of the Lost Levels to have a look at with the warthog and the commentary was rather well done in how it was created and why it was abandoned, it was quite short but it clearly took a lot of time and iterating and then never even got used.

One thing that was a surprise is that I've got Part II on disc and thought I'd have to be quick when I put the play disc into my PS5 to stop it from starting to install just like any physical game. Sony had clearly thought people may have been doing this so the install was actually paused rather than automatically happening. Which was nice.

That was a bit of a mess when they first introduced upgrade paths with PS4 discs. It would always install the PS4 version first.
