I'd like David Fincher and a darker almost horror/thriller story, with Brad Pitt as a crazy disturbed bad guy, and bond doing some dark dodgy detective stuff with gadgets. If some kinda prison planet can be shoehorned in even better.

Sam Mendes would've bucked that trend a bit, surely? This Mendes was one of most name recognisable directors they've hired for sure, although his films prior to Skyfall were nowhere near his American Beauty/Road To Perdition days. The 3 prior films were bombs including DeCaprio and Winslet reuniting in Revolutionary Road. He was definitely in a position where they have more say than he does. Whereas Nolan has just made a 3 hour film about a German scientist that played like a Batman film at the box office.

Yeah, I'd not mind the campy and comedic vibe of the Moore movies, minus the 50 year old perving teens.
As long as it's not just a bodybuilder Bond doing fisticuffs action I would prob be on board.

The Danny Boyle one would have been interesting. But they couldn't have the Russian's as the bad guys.

Russians can be bad guys again. Or Syrians. Or people in boats.

Yeah, that trailer dashed any thoughts I had that Argyle might be a more grounded film.
To be fair, he has done some different stuff in the long past, Layer Cake and Star Dust were quite different but he's been in largely the same comic-book-action lane since, well, Kick Ass.

Is that in the Kingmans universe? Looks to be the same SLJ character and sidekick.

My first thought was that it’s a spin-off but having read the wiki it does sound like it’s own thing, but still not sure.

My first thought was that it’s a spin-off but having read the wiki it does sound like it’s own thing, but still not sure. Yeah, I had a look, too. No producer credit for Millar or any mention of it. Its just named and themed after a menswear pattern, looks, feel and acts exactly like it. Still, Sam Rockwell is always worth the price of admission so whatever but that is slightly dulled by Dua Lipa seemingly turning in a sub-perfume advert level performance.

I still think it may well be a spin-off. It looks SO much like it’s part of the universe.

Aye, I wondered if it was all connected. Can't seem to find anything conclusive. The below quote when Vaughn was doing press stuff for the Kingsman is about as close as it gets.
Clear as mud...

If Ana de Armas and Halle Berry both get their John Wick spin-offs, they can double up as Bond spinoffs and officially link the universes.
Personally, despite liking almost all Bond stuff, I'm not really sure where they go from here. Every direction they might go in sounds a bit similar to some other franchise.

The first Kingsman was great, the sequel laughably bad and couldn't make it through the other one.
Same with Kickass, first one great, second dogshit.
So of he does get it at least the first Bond has a shout of being good.

I think as Nick says, a lot of Vaughan’s success and style is actually attributable to Mark Millar. Be interesting to see what this is like without him.

I think Vaughn actually added visual panache to what are fairly middle of the road Millar comics. Joan Jett's Bad Reputation with Hitgirl running riot was great, or Colin Firth wrecking the westboro baptist church to Freebird.
But yknow that's kind of the extent of it. Some glorious little set pieces set to a tune. Like Edgar Wright with none of the other talents involved.
For Bond they should just pick a different director and actor every movie. Do it like Inside Number Nine. Maybe make Q and M the same actor every time. Otherwise just fuck around.

Fresh reports of Aaron Taylor-Johnson being offered the role. Something that has been rumoured for a very long time.
If true, of course.

Eh... this guy won't be far off the same age as Craig was for Casino Royale by the time it's released. I was hoping they'd mix it up a bit.

I don't know if it's because Craig was already pretty famous when he was cast, or because of how quickly they seemed to switch to "Old Man Bond" (literally his third film!), but I always pegged him as being in his early forties right from the off. Meanwhile I still think of Johnson as being the teenager from Kick-Ass, despite how hench he was in Tenet. But yeah: Johnson is currently 33, Craig was 38 when Casino Royale came out. Not that much difference.

I think it's a fine if quite uninspiring choice. Although on the surface he seems like a beefy Craig style bond, he's a versatile enough actor that he could put a different spin on it.
