The only down side as far as I can see is that this monitor cannot be adjustable for tilt.

Seems perfectly fine. I have an LG Ultragear as well (albeit a much bigger and pricier 34" ultra-widescreen) and haven't got any complaints.
Just glancing at the "you might also like" and see there is a 27" Acer for just a little more, if you want to go a little bigger. Only 75hz instead of the 165hz of the LG, but depending on the system that may not matter much.
For 1080p though, 27" might be a little big. Ideal res for that size is 1440p and you probably won't find one for less than £250-300 (and your kid's system might not be suitable for pushing that number of pixels).

Thanks, I think 27" is probably a little too large for his desk anyway and besides he'd have the biggest monitor in the house and that just won't do!

Rtings is my go to monitor review site. Really in depth detail if you want it, but you can also very quickly get an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of a given model.
You can also pick a use case like 'gaming' and get a table of reviews which you can sort by score and filter down by size, budget etc.

Agree, I think he'll be fine with that LG. Review of it here on a site that I've found helpful in the past. Way way more technical deep dive than is probably warranted for a £100 monitor purchase tbh, but get past that and he as good as you'll find on the pros and cons of the user experience of a monitor without actually trying it yourself pcmonitors.info/reviews/lg-ultragear-24gq50f-b/If you wanted to stretch a few quid more, the AOC he recommends as the best buy budget 24" is £149 at Amazon or £129 at Currys. IPS, better panel, more features inc height adjustment if that matters.

Yeah fair enough. My only other tip for a good deal would be to keep an eye on outlet stores via eBay.
I've bought two AOC monitors (I have three identical ones on my sim rig) and a bedroom LG TV from Curry's outlet. All listed as damaged box but grade A and all were perfect.
I think Box.co.uk and Ebuyer also put refurb deals on eBay too. If you're lucky you can stack the discount with the 10-20% off selected sellers promos that eBay occasionally runs.
