Afternoon ratfans I have looked and can not see a topic/thread for NOW tv so I will start this one, just in case anyone else falls foul of their money grabbing and grasping greedy hands...
We cancelled Now movies last month, so we got sent a 3 months for £5 per month code, instead of £10 per month, so took that offer, we had kept the "entertainment" package, so we were already customers. All ok except when I checked my monthly bank statement I have been charged £6 PER WEEK for BOOST (3 weeks in fact) I did not have a clue what this was, searched and found out:
What do I get with NOW Boost?
Ad-free streaming: Cinema, Entertainment and Sports Members can watch on-demand shows, movies and sport without ads.
Full HD: Watch all the Sky Sports channels, plus selected shows and movies, in 1080p video quality instead of the usual 720p.
Awesome audio: Got a surround sound speaker system or soundbar? Boost lets you enjoy a fully immersive audio experience with Dolby Digital 5.1.
Smoother sporting action: All the Sky Sports channels stream at 50 frames per second (except on Xbox One & Series X/S and LG TV).
Extra streaming allowance: Another handy benefit is that you get to stream on 3 devices at the same time. Perfect for families that can’t agree on what to watch! (Members without Boost can only watch on 1 device at a time).
All ok (obviously not ok) but I didn't ask for the fecker, they admit they add it to all new customers.
From Money saving expert site:
New Now subscribers should watch out for its £5 (charged us £6) a month Boost package being added automatically when they take out a bundle from the streaming service. Here's what to look for and how to unsubscribe.
Now has admitted to MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) - after we put complaints to it - that it does automatically sign bundle subscribers, up to its Boost service.
How the fuck can they get away with this. We are getting out money refunded but I am fookin livid about this shitty cunty practice, I may well end up cancelling the membership we have.

It's very confusing and seems designed to catch people out.
I nearly signed up for an offer for 1 quid a month for 3 months.
However, this came with a free month of boost, which I'd have to pay after 1 month.
As it happens I didn't sign up as I forgot, but that model and timing seems to be there to very deliberately catch people out.
It mentions that ad free streaming is via boost - are these just at the start of programs or do they interrupt the stream? If it's the latter I'll never bother, even though there's a couple of things I'd like to watch at some point.

I wanted to sign up for a month to watch the right here right now documentary. Got confused by this additional boost nonsense and just gave up.

Yeah, my mother in law did the same. Just use a low, medium and high tier like everyone else, ffs.

Now TV are absolutely shite. They have shit picture quality, fuck loads of ads and, as hard as they protest, are basically Sky.

Boost is usually per month, per week is proper shitty. Got both movies and entertainment on offer (£12 for both, plus £6 boost) until next year. It's crap quality but also a price I can handle.

I got the entertainment tier with (I think) no boost because I wanted to watch Last Of Us and The Rehearsal and wife wanted to watch the Sex & The City reboot. Might have to check that I’ve not been getting shafted.
Its a total scam that without the boost you’re paying a tenner for ad supported content on a single device anyway.
Not Sky but a platform that exclusively delivers only Sky content?! I always assumed it was just Sky catch up rebadged.

I thought it was Sky?
If they're attempting to be a separate brand it's really not working.

They're not Sky though. They may be owned and operated by Sky, but the brand is not Sky.

Even in this thread we can't decide if it's Sky or not. Absolute nonsense branding.
Anyway, doesn't change the fact it's shite.

Owned and operated by Sky and providing Sky content?
They’re Sky

I don't really see the point in NOW TV anymore, originally it was to differentiate streaming from the main Sky offering and possibly no contract as well. But now they have embraced streaming in the main Sky brand it just leaves it as "Sky but without the contract and a slightly worse app" ... I think originally I had to create two sky IDs, one for SkyGo and one for NowTV which is even more bonkers.

My f-i-l has sky stream and its actually pretty good. I'd get it when it comes time to recontract, for sure. It would be nice to get rid of the dish.

Not sure I'd want a contract - I rarely keep any streaming service more than a few months at a time, so being locked into a contract really doesn't appeal.
So Now TV is the only option for me really.

Sky Stream isnt a contract. You can sign up for a year to reduce your monthly but you can pay every 30 days if you want.

As long as I can turn it off as easily as I do with Prime once Mrs Simple finishes watching And Just Like That it can be whatever it wants to be

Sky Stream isnt a contract. Fair enough. Then I guess Now's USP is being available on multiple devices (that, and presumably being cheaper).

Oh but then again Sky have Sky Go for taking your Sky sub out on the go with you, but not sure if that works for Sky Stream subs...
Needlessly confusing.

I've literally never paid full price and have had the full sports, entertainment, movies, boost for years. I get the lot for about 30 quid a month. Wait until it's a few weeks away from expiring, threaten to quit on your account online, accept the "please stay with us" offer they counter you with, profit.

Same here. Although I share a sports sub with a mate, so there's a bit of extra faff there but worth it for sports for a tenner.

Yeah, quality isn't amazing but I'd never pay regular Sky prices in a month of Sundays.

The rule with any Now offer (any streaming service offer) is to cancel right after you activate it.
You'll never remember otherwise. You'll also get loads of offers to stay if you really fancy it.

I bought their Sport Pass thing for the F1 this season. Just cancelled it. The pirate streams are better quality and the functionality far more flexible. Fuck you, F1. I tried to pay for your shit, but you fucked me.
