Now to decide on a starting class. I originally wanted to go Pyro but they sound a bit squishy. I feel like I do need a class that has some decent ranged ability though.

I went agility. I now have a bow. I like being able to fight like a coward.

Other than that, you seem to be killing it!!!
You don't really notice it unless you look kind of thing....but when you do it's genuinely genuinely like textures are missing / have forgot to load in. This is in performance mode, quality is currently completely unplayable. It's really annoying. You really are better off waiting and not being an idiot like me. My excuse is I have today to play it and then pretty much won't be able to for three weeks. And for some reason I'm doing okay :-D I'm sure a brick wall is coming. It hasn't been that hard so far, especially compared to P.
Well, I do have it on order from Amazon.fr, who are seemingly taking their sweet time to even post it (and after that I'll have to wait for the postie to deliver it), so even if I wanted to hurry playing it, I'm looking at best at the end of the month to have it in my hands - perhaps that's plenty of time to get it into shape, not that I'm too bothered by technical misgivings
Got to admit though, I am getting a bit jealous reading posts in the very thread

I love you Addy.
Pretty much every class has ranged options. The knight starts with grenades(!), spearman has javelins, warwolf has throwing axes... they're all equip-able items with ammo replenishing when you rest, so you can never actually run out of your fancy fite arrows or whatever. It's a nice system.

That's what I went for, and they are a bit squishy; that said, the only real difficulty (as in, I may need to re-roll) I had was against the first main boss, as I still didn't really have my bearings and it just wasn't enough to lob fireballs at her. But I'm committing to the squishiness by wearing very light armour and therefore staying in the first third of the encumbrance bar - the dodging and rolling is pretty good. And now with the two axes - that scale with inferno - it's a pretty solid build. My annoyance right now is how cumbersome it is to swap catalysts, to go between spell classes. Being able to do this on the fly with the d-pad would be a MASSIVE improvement.

Another boss does the dead dance. A sweet lady who keeps dogs. Ah, that's where I am now. I had a go, failed, them decided to go off and do other stuff. How did you approach it, what worked?

I really hope I'm missing something but I don't think so I'm hoping there will be some all-purpose catalyst at some point so you can mix and match spells. But, yeah, spell selection / casting is inelegant.

Yeah it's a shame, no alternate weapon sets either.
As far as the dog lady goes, in the end I mostly just ignored the dogs and ran around dodging and getting hits in.

I got to Pieta last night and nearly beat her on the first attempt. Of course each attempt after that has been lacklustre. Just need to get better timing on her swipes.
I love the umbral mechanic, I also tried walking underwater holding the lamp as I thought I'd be clear with what was infront of me!
Couple of things. L1+R1 doesn't appear to do anything at all. Is this weapon based for the multi attack?
The enemy projectile throwers need a nerf, mainly with the range. Controls can be a bit fiddly, but that's more a me problem I think. I keep trying to use spells when I have my lamp equipped etc.
Good early impressions though.

Re L1+R1 it might be, I know at least one weapon it only works if you switch to two-handed.

It's also kick. Kicking those bloody hunched spellcasters off platforms hasn't got old yet.

Already sick to death of this Pieta fight. Any aspect of it in particular? You can always summon the dude at the fog gate.

I’m in some swamp area now after killing a big thing with too many mouths. I explored a bit then thought I’d make life hard for myself by going in a different direction, through the doors from the Agatha vestige. I really shouldn’t be here yet but YOLO.

Edit: this was for starchildhypocrethes, though seems it's not necessary now, well done.
Yep, just summon. Both the NPC and a random if you really want to get through it.
I've just beaten dog-lady. It seems the strategy of running around her in circles and ducking in for occasional hits was effective. Not particularly elegant, but screw that.
Prior to that I was doing loops around the Blind Agatha vestige, doing some gentle grinding to bring my vitality to 20. It does make a difference, I just hope I can upgrade the Sanguinarix soon.
