Just once in my life I’d like to see a team I support go into a final and behave like they believe they’re going to win and boss the game. You should have supported Spain like the rest of us did!

When England reach a final in a major sport it feels like we either win by the skin of our teeth or don't turn up at all. I totally get what Kal is saying. I've only seen Newcastle Utd get to 3 finals and they offered nothing and lost 2-0 in each of them. That's not unique to England, many finals can be like that your just looking from an English perspective. I don't think we were timid today, I think we were just outplayed. While we did carry a threat coming forward we didn't see enough ball to create enough, often gave it away cheaply too. But I think that's credit to Spain.

Yeah, I don't think they did the usual England thing of just collapsing when it gets to a big game.

There’s a lot of middle ground between ‘just collapsing’ and behaving like Germany in a final.

It’s not like we didn’t have chances. There were a couple of times we should have drawn even and we did get a few bad calls handed to us as well. They did give Spain a run for their money, even though it probably should have been a 2-0 defeat had Spain not been so limp with their spot kick.

The head of the Spanish FA groping and kissing the players when they received their medals was creepy as fuck.

Think the Panama side steppy goal was my goal of the tourney.

In coming second I get my $5 from the work sweepstake, so the team have that to console them at least.

I didn’t realise Carmona’s dad had died two days before the final. Obviously tragic whenever it happened but that’s a long time to keep it from her. I’d thought it was on Sunday and she’d just been told after the match.

That's awful, I'm almost glad they won now.
And I know a lot of people piled on Lucy Bronze for the goal, me included, but a wing back in a back five bombing forward to get an attack going is a common occurrence and expected of her. It's not her fault that she was unsupported and no one moved across to cover. Team brain fart plus Spanish quick thinking.

Yeah, the gap was because she’d gone forward but it was her job to go forward. The official best team in the world are obviously going to exploit anything they can and looked most likely to score all evening.
The local news here was at the leisure centre where her aunt and nan were both attending a public screening, so after all that we got to see an elderly woman weeping to end the day too.
Considering the reasons for the Spanish players strike I’m very uncomfortable that the FA appear to have so clearly chosen the World Cup over a player’s family life like this. Of course, for all I know it was her family who told the FA not to tell her but two days is a long time to withhold news like that. I know I’d be pissed off as well as floored by grief if someone kept it from me.

I haven't read the details, but the short article I read implied it was the family's choice not to tell her, and they flew out on Saturday(or Sunday?) and told her after the game.
Though of course I don't know what pressure there was behind the scenes.

So can we look forward to him snogging the face off Jordi Alba if they do well next summer?

He's trying to apologise now: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66568226Too little, too late - either he has a similar "natural gesture of affection" with one of the male players ASAP, tongue and all, or he hands in his resignation.

His family gatherings must be fun if that's a natural gesture of affection, "stop tonguing Nana, Luis!"

The Spanish FA don't seem to be the type to make someone resign over that kind of thing.

The Spanish FA seem to be the type to promote someone over that kind of thing.
EDIT: Although he's presumably at the top of the ladder already. Gravity, do your thing!
