I'm going to try this build I found at Reddit:
Dual VVC-760PR
Dual VP-60LCS
Plus whatever armour I can equip at the time.

I found a build on YouTube which seems to be working - consistently got him to a sliver, but he still hits so damn hard and I can't quite get it over the line yet.
Tank Legs Dual Machine Guns Dual Lazer Cannons Everything else mega beefy. My AP is 17000+ Chips spent on repair kits and damage mitigation.
The strategy that is helping is to just be super aggro and keep as close as possible (when the fire sword comes out my current strat is to pray), previously I was keeping well back which wasn't working at all.

Yeah, the melee attack during his second phase is a real pain in the ass. I keep trying to i-frame through it - force of habit, I suppose - and that's only making matters worse!

Had another few goes at lunch. Nope. Absolute pain in the ass boss. I'm finding it more annoying than most Souls bosses tbh, it just feels harder to avoid attacks in this.

Got 'im! If you're interested, this is the build I used (taken from a Reddit user called Pyirate): Hands: Dual VVC-760PR
Shoulders: Dual VP-60LCS
Head: Hd-011 Melander
Core: BD-011 Melander
Arms: AR-011 Melander
Legs: VP-424
Booster: BST-G2/P06SPD*
FCS: FC-008 Talbot*
Generator: VP-20D
I don't feel as though this build outright trivialises the boss, but it certainly makes the encounter a lot more manageable.
* These parts were different, as the ones Pyirate mentioned are unavailable before you beat the boss.

I got em too. Thank fuck!
Ended up with tank legs. Plasma rifle, laser handgun, 8 vertical launcher and laser cannon.

Nice one, gibroon. Onwards and upwards! I have to say, the more I play this game, the more I like it - the movement is so fast and fluid, and it's hard not to feel like a badass when you're zipping about the place with dual-wielded shotguns.

Swapped from grenade and gatling to shotgun and the effective range on the shotgun isn't bad at all, you don't actually have to be that close for a good hit, especially with the Zimmermans.

It is a good feeling when you get passed a boss Definitely need to experiment more with the legs for movement types. I didn't get on with the tank to start with but quite enjoying it now. Missus on the telly now though so will have to wait for more tinkering.

Fine work, harrypalmer! Looks like all the Font Geek Mech Bros 4 Lyfe (that's a placeholder name, by the way) made some good progress today.

John from DF was raving about the pc version in yesterday’s video. Would this be accessible for someone that never played a From Software game?

Looking at it from the perspective of someone who has played all the Soulsborne games but none of From's mech titles (older entries in the Armored Core series, Metal Wolf Chaos, etc.), I'm finding it pretty accessible.
If you're concerned about it being too Souls-y, I'd say that 90% of the game isn't like that at all - only the boss fights are somewhat reminiscent of Souls games, and although they can be very challenging, putting together an appropriate build to exploit their weaknesses is as important as "gitting gud."

Yeah I agree. I've played all the Souls games but none of the AC games, the levels are short and snappy, there are checkpoints and no real penalties for dying. But the bosses are very From Soft, i.e. often extremely difficult and require you to learn patterns, try different gear and die. The last boss I did had me close to quitting at points, but you do reach a point either by grinding for better gear or practice, where you know you'll get there eventually, and the satisfaction earned is well-worth it.
It's very fun, and very player friendly in how it encourages you to try as many different mech types/weapon combos as possible. So I'd say it's great for an 'outsider'.

It's definitely a mech combat game; if you like those then you'll like Armored Core. If you have any experience with the earlier games it should match up well too - I played a load of Armored Core 3 in 2v2 matches 20 years ago while in a uni dorm and AC6 felt right at home in a way that 4 and 5 didn't.
In terms of difficulty, the difficulty can get quite high but missions usually top out at about 10 minutes long and in the case of major boss battles you usually have a checkpoint before them where continuing lets you review your build and refreshes your ammo and armour. The shop is very forgiving as you can sell any parts back for 100% of their purchase price so they really want you to experiment with builds and styles.

I said a while back that this feels closer to an Ace Combat than anything Souls-y.
Each mission requires a strategy, each strategy suits some builds better than others, and then it's all about how you execute.
One viable option is to play it almost like Vanquish - speed is often your friend!

Good point. Definitely has Vanquish, Ace Combat vibes. I'm also finding the way the story is delivered via voice comms very reminiscent of metal gear games, which is nice.

My frames of reference are much narrower than many others', but I've definitely had some Metal Gear vibes from this.
Also Titanfall 2, if the mech sections in that game were as fast and fluid as the on-foot sequences - you can't run on walls in AC6, but you'll spend a lot of time zipping about at top speed while blasting enemies with your weapons of choice.

High difficulty will be a problem for me, I can’t get past the second level in Returnal for instance. Currently also stuck on the last boss in Jedi Survivor if that’s any reference.

You can always look up recommended builds online, and replay old missions for currency that'll allow you to buy the parts you need to recreate said builds for yourself.
I know it's a predictable thing for a console gamer to say to a PC user - for which I apologise in advance! - but can't you check it out on Steam, and get a refund if applicable?
This isn't a game that'll take up your two-hour refund window with expository cutscenes and lengthy character creation - you'll get straight into the action.

@fake_Blood
If you are on PC, at least you should get some mods to make it a bit easier. Like most From games there is no difficulty choice at the beginning. There is a mod now that lets you get guns, body parts, etc that are lighter and use less EN power, so you can stack heavier, bigger guns on to nimble ACs.

Made a bit of progress but up to another brutal boss. Back to some mission replays but enjoying trying to find some data collection things and better ranks.
Not doing well on the ranks though 😂

Hi Danno! *waves excitedly*
You're not obnoxious, dude. That vicious arachnid is obnoxious; you're, like, the anti-Sea Spider.
