I want to join this thread really, I know I will at some point but currently more at home in it's adversary. I still want to join, I just know that when I do it will have to be a permanent membership and I'm really struggling with that atm.

Im the reverse, I was tea total for like over 10 years, even went to a friend's stag do and didn't drink, but then lockdown hit and I started again. Tbh I'm not heavy, a couple of somethings a couple of times a week and mostly social.

Treated myself to a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend and... I wondered what I was doing. By that I mean the pros of a few small glasses of wine didn't really add up. I, I think I've changed. I don't see a reason to drink indoors anymore and that is quite huge for me. I'm still a craft beer wanker at heart, so I think THAT will be my only break from abstinence – visiting my friends in our local independent bar. That said, they do a huge range of AF stuff in there too, so that's a bonus. Speaking of which, I tried Punk AF at the weekend and it's really nice. Pleased about that. Probably the best one I've tried. I'm also finding myself replacing beer/wine (and rum) with sodas. Forgot how nice Sprite is even without gin or vodka in it Any recommendations for weekend pop that I might not have seen? Soda Folk's Cream Soda is bloody lovely.

Recently I've found myself rewatching a lot of films that I watched years ago after a skinfull. It's crazy how little of them I can actually remember. Hell, even at the time I'd wake up the next day and struggle to remember what film I'd watched.
It kind of seems like a futile exercise even bothering to watch them back then in hindsight, but that was all part of my weekend routine.

Thinking I need a break from drinking. Went to a gig last week, drank far too much. Can't actually remember seeing the main act.
Fell over on the way home and face planted, relatively minor injuries but gouged a chunk of skin out of my nose, between the eyes, where my glasses bridge scraped along, which is still healing so having to wear a plaster between the eyes. Doesn't look too bad but does make my glasses look like a joke prop.
I think I'll take a break, but I think the plan will be to only drink if I'm actually with others in the future (going to a gig alone counts at being by myself). Drinking at home would actually be less destructive as beer would run out, being out by myself makes it far too easy to just keep going back to bar.

Just my own personal experience, as someone who has had a terrible relationship with alcohol since before drinking age, but... If you're going to quit drinking, I'd suggest just dropping it entirely until a point (if you find it) where being able to have one or two on occasion in good company is where you're able to stop it. After a month or two you start enjoying life without it (in my experience) and it seems crazy you needed to. It's, again personally, the only time I've found actual success without a fairly noticeable, if drawn out, spiral back to drinking as I was.
I'm back to drinking, far too much, and it always starts with weird self-imposed rules I inevitably break 'just this once' for 'x reason'. Again, just speaking for myself here but hoping to help.

I need to hand my imaginary chip back in. I was away this weekend with my folks and there was a bottle of rum on the table. I only had 3 rum and cokes, but it was so unnecessary. I failed the will power test for sure.
As a result of that, my heart ran fast that night. If ever there was a stark warning of why I am supposed to be actively avoiding spirits, that was it.
Idiot.

That's the plan really. To be honest I rarely get as carried away as I did but I think it's the underlying anxiety of, well, life that got the better of me. If I'm actually with people I'm usually in a better mood.
