Those conduit puzzles are hard. Proper hard. I had to use a bypass thing just to get past the one to open the bridge. Not sure how it could have been done any other way mind you. I fucking love this though. It looks old and new at the same time. The ambience is spot on, the soundtrack fantastic and it's all just the absolute tits.

It's really pretty amazing what they did with the art style. It looks great and is atmospheric, while still somehow capturing the retro/pixelated look.

The "get the power level right" puzzles stumped me a bit at first but eventually I got the hang of them. On a replay though I just set puzzle difficulty to 1 though, fuck it.

Ooooh wait. I'm not trying to max the meter each time? Nope. You want to make it so the power level is between the two markers I've circled.

Yeah some of the puzzles stumped me initially but you get your head round them eventually

Ahhhhh bloody hell. Awesome. You may also notice if you look closely that some of the plugs in those power puzzles have two little bars on the side instead of one - that means those deliver double the amount of power than the other plugs, so if you plug one into a slot and it's too much power, it's possible that you used a double power one and a single power one might be right.

I've played it 2 nights running now. I desperately need a recycler at the minute and those fire breathing beetles can do one.

There’s a recycler on med somewhere. I saw one.
Yeah those little repair bots from hell are just evil.

Made it to Research last night. Medical was FAR bigger than I remembered. Fucking amazing. The enemy sounds are now starting to get to me.
"Yes mother, I obey"
Argh I love it.

Haha I was getting a bit freaked by them last night too! Creepy fucking cyborgs. I don't know why but they really freak me out.

it's all just the absolute tits. I believe the Guardian used the exact same phrase in their review.

They are. Just not like this sadly. That's probably for the best. I couldn't cope with a better looking System Shock 2. It still scares the shit out of me as it is.

Ha. I forgot that you could accidentally wipe out civilisation yourself. Mental note: You don't need to press every button you come across.

I have made it to the flight deck but, I should add, things are quickly turning to shit. Managed to fire the laser into the shield and fuck up that part of Shodan's plans. I am heading to the distress call on the flight deck (even though I know how that turns out...) Also have to get to the groves. However I'm out of med packs and low on ammo. I've fully explored medical and research but gave up on the reactor once I got what I needed from there. The flight deck isn't messing around though. Oh hell.

Update time, I know you're all wondering how I'm getting on. At the risk of this turning into my personal blog...
Made it to the resistance room in the flight deck and, yeah, all my past nightmares came back at once. I knew what to expect and it still annihilated me a couple of times. Until that is I discovered that using a berserk patch in combination with the laser rapier means I can open shit up in seconds and feast on the goo inside. Cue one dead big boi. Same tactic was used a bit later on when the crazy AI bint threw a trap for me and lobbed a couple of cyborg enforcers in with some security bots and cyborg assassins. One patch and a few swings later and all that's left is chunks of meat and cables.
Managed to upgrade my sparkbeam, and also have an assault rifle, so things are looking up.
Talking of up, think that's where I'm heading next. The groves await me. Just need to figure out how to get there.
Oh, found the soundtrack on bandcamp. Forgot it was on there. Definite purchase. I love it.

As someone who never played the original (well, i did, but I was young and dumb and didn't get very far before getting lost), how much do you think they've changed/updated the core game.
I played the demo of the new one, and so I know they've updated the visuals, controls, and quality of life stuff (and cyberspace). But are the underlying levels, challenges and philosophy basically the same?
It seemed like they were from the demo. in which case it's interesting that a gameplay loop from 30 years ago still works so well and doesn't feel out of date.
