I must be forgetting things with age. Where do you find the code for the keypad door in the southern section of Research? The one that's in the sort of square that you cant get inside? I've still not unlocked the Southern one. Wunty may be able to help as he's further on You'd think I'd be able to remember... Everything before executive is a blur as that and the groves took me so long! I'm still faffing in Engineering. It's bloody massive.

Did you go to engineering straight from research?
Also, hilariously, I've got to go back to medical and research because I forgot to write down the fucking reactor code numbers!

Hmm weird. From research I can only go reactor or engineering. I'll have a look around both and see where my quest marker is. After getting the sodding reactor numbers that is
Oh. And I accidentally blew up earth again by mistake earlier. Again.

There's a quest marker?

Well, there's that white marker on the map that gives you a vague idea where to go next and I'm hoping that once you've done that bit in a level, the marker moves onto the next level.
At least, that's what I'm hoping

I've just put it on easy for everything as I want to get through it as comfy as I can. Still getting shot to fuck though! Yeah. It's amazing how difficult medium is. Bloody amazing though. I'm finding this pace I'm going through it brilliant as think I would have been frustrted trying to rush it. This way the game is lasting forever and I am loving every second I'm playing. It's a proper old school experience. I know I keep banging on about it, but the soundtrack is so good.
I just want Nightdive to release news of SS2 coming to consoles. I need it. I have it on my mac but I want it on my big telly.

Yeah I agree, the soundtrack is immense, along with the ambient stuff. They've done an excellent job of making you really feel like you're there.
And ss2 just simply ĥas to happen and that's the end of it. But I'll still go through the pc version.

Finished it just now. The new final boss is an improvement over the first version, for sure.
I still think the original has the edge in a few ways. The SS2-style inventory is way too restrictive. Cyberspace is also a bother for the most part. And by giving the game a darker palette and ambient soundtrack, it loses some of the 90's cyberpunk look and the feel of that godly chiptune music.
In the end though, it's still System Shock, and therefore a joy to play. The new controls are appreciated, and the latest update lets us write map notes like in the original, which is very much appreciated.
How weird that a 30 years old game would hold up so well today. That must be what happens when you make it perfect the first time.
