Son wants a drone with a camera that he can control with an app for his 11th birthday. I don't want to spend loads as he might not stick with it anyway, but I'm thinking that he might be better with something half decent like this:
Rather than something admittedly much cheaper like this:
I don't have any experience of drones, but I imagine the cheaper ones might be so difficult to actually use that it's hard to get much enjoyment out of them. Also the pricier one has Scratch integration, which he's quite into.
Please educate me hive mind.

Only have experience with the cheaper ones...which fly well enough but have v small battery life. Done after 5 mins or so.

Thanks Dougs, hm, not sure it's worth paying more than double for better battery life Have you used them outdoors at all?

I was asked to look for one for my nephew with a similar scope. My only advice, really, is that the drone comminuty is massive on youtube so pretty much everything has a video review and be aware that most reviews are done in like hawaii, not skeggy so if you want to fly outside in english weather, you'll want something butch enough to cope with it which smaller, cheaper drones dont do very well.

Cheers, yeah getting the impression that it needs to be a pretty still day. Which one did you end up recommending out of interest?

As I say, they get up in the air well enough but the boy got very bored with such a short period of time. Was only a £25/30 job that he got for Christmas one year though, sure these ones are much better.

Can recommend some of the drones the Ukrainian army put to good use, they seem robust
