My work laptop has a VGA out and an HDMI out. I would really like to set up my two work monitors to work off the laptop. The monitors each have a DP port, VGA and a DVI in. Obviously the VGA to VGA works fine for one screen, can I just use something like this www.labc.co.uk/news/replacement-windows-and-trickle-vents to go from my laptop HDMI port to the other screen? Iโd be willing to bet some airflow in the double glazing isnโt going to do much for you.

Why not just use an HDMI to DP cable?

Why not just use an HDMI to DP cable? this and then vga on the other? Surely you'll get more long-term use from hdmi to DP than a hdmi to DVI. How many panels come with a DVI these days? Prices are similar as well

At six whole quid I don't think it matters, but yeah I just googled the first one that came to mind (from back in the day) rather than advocating for DVI in particular.

Thanks all, change of plan, the big monitor I have from work is just too big for my home workspace, especially if I was to have two, or rather I can't sit far enough away so will just get another monitor that matches the one I already have (24"), one that either has a VGA or HDMI.

Why not just use an HDMI to DP cable? All the ones I looked at seemed to only work if the DP was the source and were unidirectional?

Yeah, HDMI to displayport won't work without an expensive adapter.
Does the laptop have a USB-C port? Could be worth looking at a dock instead if so. Obviously not cheap if you get something with dual DP mind you, so could be worth seeing if work will allow you to expense it.

Almost all HDMI to DP cables are active nowadays. I do it all day long on a cable that cost me 6 bucks off Amazon.

The cheap ones I've seen are always the other way around - DP to HDMI.

Right, DP to HDMI is passive, but the active cables arenโt some big expensive DAC or a Thunderbolt dock or anything like that, theyโre as cheap as passive and donโt have the limitations of doing HDMI to DVI or the bandwidth issues of non-Thunderbolt USB-C. But itโs moot now anyway.

Because this is for my work laptop, as in my employers, for when I WFH, which is pretty much permanently atm.
We all have two monitors when we work in the office but they won't support us having two at home as it's our choice to WFH and I'm loathe to spend any more money than I have to.
