Nice... I thought the previous season was the last for some reason. Felt like a good place to end it without dragging on for too long.
Fingers crossed this delivers, as it's some of the best TV I've seen in recent years when it nails it.

I remember when this used to have more comedy. Absolutely insane episode, both in writing and direction. I had totally forgotten that Sally had killed that guy in S3, and explains her acceptance pretty quickly, which brings me to think she might be the end so to speak. And the other two points of the entire Hank/Cristobal 'breakup', and Gene shooting...holy shit. Just fucking amazing. 4 to go, and it's going to get even darker, isn't it ? |

Yeah really good episode. I feel its always been more in favour of being dark than comedy though previous seasons would have some more in your face comedy scenes.

I don't know if I can watch this show anymore, that last episode was absolutely brutal.
Like, I don't mind it dark. But this show has usually been darkly funny, and it's almost completely lost the funny.

Definitely seemed like a time jump. Noho, Gene, Fuches..you could almost make a case that's the end of their arcs. Also prob right time to do it, halfway through the season now. |

Yeah definitely real. Was set up to be genuine/shocking.
I almost wish he'd made two shows called Barry. The funny one, which I prefer, and this darker one, which I still really like buuuuuuuuuut feel like it's gone too far. First two seasons were really funny.

This episode had its moments, the police car bumping into the back of the other, raiding the sports bar, Sally stepping in front of the actress as shes giving the lines. Last episode you had the journalist shifting to be German and the botched assassination attempt. |

It reminds me a bit of Breaking Bad, where the first couple of seasons had quite a lot of humour in them, but all of it was pretty much gone by the end.
I don't know why it worked better for me in BB than it does here. Maybe because BB was never really a comedy show?

Did laugh at the police car. I think BB maybe worked because it was a much, much better at being a serious show and wasn't that funny. Whereas this was a really good and genuinely funny dark comedy for two seasons.
I still really like it. Just miss old season 1 socially inept Barry and comedy Hank.

Plus the table scene with them trying to recruit the other gangs. But it started going more dark last season. |

Jesus. I honestly hoped it was a surreal imagination bit that's popped up before, but nope, timeskip confirmed, and fuck me was that a bleak episode. At least there were some laughs last week, but I at least concur on the spoiler. For my own that strangulation further cements my earlier speculation that somebody about to snap. |
