In honour of Everspace 2 finally getting a final release date (April 6th) and launch trailer, here's a thread for both games.
I've had immense fun with the Early Access version since day one, every update brought fantastic improvements, and I can't wait to get stuck into the full game.
They did recommend starting a new save with every milestone update, but I never did and found myself sometimes wondering if enemies were over or underpowered as a result of my not following that advice.
Really looking forward to more ship customisation more than anything.
On the subject of Everspace 1 and its' expansion, the day I finally made it to the end of the game is one of my fondest gaming memories in recent years.

Is the first one worth playing? I've become a big fan of space games in VR (Star Wars Squadrons), and I was disappointed (though not entirely surprised) to see that they've ditched it for the sequel.
Probably still get it, as it sounds good.

First one is a bit barebones as a game, second looks better in pretty much every way.

Is Everspace like owning a space van? Or is it Freespace/X-Wing? I genuinely can't remember anymore.

A little bit of both. It’s a space shooter roguelike. It doesn’t drop you in and let you go do your own thing like Elite/Freelancer/X, but you do loot and upgrade.
Dunno if that’s changed for the 2nd one, somehow I own it but have never touched it.

The second one is much more what you are after, Grem was describing the first.

I bought the first one on Xbox console when I was buying roguelites (and it was on sale). I liked it, but didn't love it. There was also something about the controls that was really annoying. I can't remember exactly what, but it was some feature that was in other flying games (think barrel roll or turning upside down or something), that was only possible witha strange button mapping.

Oooh I might be sold on this. First one always looked beautiful but got middling reviews.
Elite is too much for me so something simpler most welcome.
No Man's Sky with all the expansions felt like it was almost made for me but I couldn't stand getting stuck on planets looking for oxygen or tritium or what have you to fuel a ship.
Anyone remember Colony Wars?!

There's also Rogue Galaxy Outlaw. It's kind of elite boiled down to its core elements, and with a nice vibe/style.
I drifted away from it reasonably soon though. It felt a bit directionless... but I think I just don't really get on so well with self-directed space games as flying around space can feel pretty samey to begin with. I need a strong storyline to get me hooked.
It's often pretty cheap though so worth a spin.
PS/ Plus the bars have decent pool tables

Had a quick go yesterday and quite enjoyed what I played but I was super tired and decided I will come back to it later.
The story seems a bit pish though but the gameplay makes up for it I think.

Need to get back on this at some point, I enjoyed what I played but it will have to wait until the releases slow down a bit.

Is this any good?
I fancy something a bit different after ripping through 3 big openworld games.
It's half price in the steam sale and it might be a nice palette cleanser.

Tried to play this today stream from pc to steam deck on the tv. It looks great but I've got a weird issue where the right stick stick movement just stutters like crazy.
It's like there are 2 pad profiles trying to fight for dominance but it is only this stick. Every other control input is fine. Wasted about 45 mins systematically enabling/disabling things but still couldn't get it working correctly.

Put about 8 hours or so into this now and I am loving it. I've finessed the controls on mouse & keyboard over that time and even though i wish I had more buttons on my mouse it feels so good to play.
Currently level 5 and still pootling around in my first ship but this was what I was expecting from the Starfield 'space flight' stuff. Exploring long since destroyed/abandoned ships, stations, planetoids etc.

I'm tempted to dip into this when someone said it played a lot like Freelancer, which is a GOAT.

Yes. It's tickling my Freelancer fun buttons but with some RPG stuff thrown in.
Im so easily swayed when jumping through hyperspace and 'distress call' or 'unknown location' pings up on the scanner ...

Oh... Everspace. I thought somebody had finally made a thread for the Fromsoft PS2 launch title Evergrace.
Everspace is pretty inexpensive and worth a look too, hopefully they refine things a bit in the sequel and either ditch or do something else for the transitional cut-scenes between stages. The 2D art they use is obviously a cost saving measure, but stylistically it looks like it was parachuted in from a different game. If you do it, make it feel consistent.

Im obsessed with this game now, exploring the shit out of wreckage currently isn't getting old.
Found what I thought was burning tower and it turned out to be the top of a drilhead that was drilling down. I pulled a battery and a passage opened down the center meaning I was able to fly right down the middle and out past the heads. I threw the battery away as I emerged out into a secret underground cavern. Ore spots all over and a secret box down at the bottom. I was assessing the secret box wondering how to open it as the battery I threw away, floated past me with the forward momentum and slotted into the battery socket. BINGO. Loot spilled out :-)
Aside to that tiny side story, I've progressed the main story and recruited a 3rd person and bought a new ship, heavy class and it creates drones. Fu..ckin love. It!

If you're anything like me, there'll be a sweet spot where you find the right ship with the right loadout and ULT of choice and you'll be doing high risk areas with abandon.

My worry with it being early access was that they would shoot their metaphorical load making the early levels good and then rinse repeat.
I'm now in Union and some of the planets around this sun are ace. Full nebula type shit where you relying on sensors or blinky fog lights in the distance.
The one I'm on now is a barren grand canyon style affair with underground caverns and tunnels.
So cool

I've still got this to go back and complete. I drifted off it cos I do t always get onto the pc but can dip into some gameplay via steamlink to the TV (through steam deck). Unfortunately I have a really weird bug where rotation via the right stick is a juddery stop start mess and it makes play impossible.
I'll have to download the patch and see if squashes otherwise it'll just a game for when I can play via M+K
