Best way of keeping in touch with friends when we're all adults with shitty real life responsibilities.
Nothing like waiting until 9/10pm until the kids/other half finally piss off to bed and we can try and relive a bit of our youth for a couple of hours.
Also - Banjo-Kazooie.

Really, you see yourself as inferior to joypad casuals
Looking at various simulation games recently, you really feel the delusions of people who think they could go a few laps with Lewis Hamilton because they use a steering wheel and cockpit view in GT7

Games give me some semblance of purpose, control, power and achievement, which contrasts the vague bleh of real life.

What do you think of people who play flight simulators with mouse and keyboard? For someone with half an airplane in his house, gremmi is very progressive when it comes to his views on input schemes

Not many more things satisfying in games than a good shotgun in an FPS.

When a cool song kicks in when playing. Max Payne 3 Airport, RDR Mexico and the Ashtray Maze are good examples.

When you're trying to solve a puzzle and before an attempt you think "surely not, the designer's wouldn't be that good/clever" and it works - see Fez, The Witness, Portal, Obra Dinn etc.

I used to play flight unlimited that way. 0 for full throttle because nobody has time for working your way up to it. Then the up cursor to take off.

Discovering a game you'd never heard of and absolutely loving it.
Subnautica was probably my most recent and one of my favourite gaming experiences ever.
It's rarer these days as theirs so much coverage but I'd only tried it because it was a ps plus freebie.

It is a great cheap hobby that provides great value for money. Even when it seems expensive.
Series x plus gamepass is 600 for a year, (a lot less in year 2) and provides incredible entertainment. 12.50 odd a week is 2 pints, or a hardback book and provides many more hours of entertainment than either of those.
Compared to every other hobby I have like board games, comics, MTG etc is has by far the best value of fun for money.

Neon White has been demanding my attention for weeks now. Hasn't been a game in a long time that feels as good to play and bringing out that competitive spirit in my to get the best times possible. Global Rank #9 last time I checked. I just get absorbed into playing the levels figuring out that perfect run and I lose all sense of real world time.

Be honest with me, some of those dials are just vinyl stickers, right? Because at some point not having dials in some places just looks silly.

can't remember whose joke this is:
In the future cockpits will house a pilot and a dog. The pilot's job is to feed the dog. The dog's job is to bite the pilot if they attempt to touch the controls.

When everyone raves about a game and then it actually lives up to or surpasses the hype.
Journey is the one Iโm thinking of in particular. Iโve gone through phases where Iโll play it start to finish every day for a week because of how meditative I find it. Has never lost its charm for me.

Was going to type something stupid but actually feel like being serious. So:
1) The escapism. Because for the brief time I'm playing I'm anyone but me and anyone but here.
That sounds fucking depressing, like I want to get away from who and where I am but it's not that at all. It's more that I just love the crazy crazy worlds that games can take you too. This may seem stupid but I love a game where I can just stop for a moment and take in my surroundings and just absorb the world I'm in. Blame Dark Souls. That started it. Those moments of quiet solitude in a strange and fantastical place. It's awesome. It kind of fires my imagination up that then kind of has this domino effect that results in me going off and drawing / writing / composing something. They can be a brilliant little springboard.
2) The comedy
Playing shit like Human Fat Flat with my boy and us both laughing like idiots for the duration.
3) The social aspect
I can chat to my brother on the other side of world as play shit with him once in a while, which is just fabby. Also. Let's face it, if it wasn't for video games I wouldn't be here (as in, on this forum, not the planet) and as much as hate to admit something like this, I can't do without coming on here on a regular basis and annoying you cunts. I tried to leave and lasted what, two weeks? Less? Shite but there you go.

Absolute beast of a weapon No, that's the Serious Sam hunting shotgun. Which admittedly was based on the Doom 2 super shotgun, so you have a point. The shotgun in FEAR gets pretty damn close though, I love just how much kick it has, and how loud it is. And it tears people in half!

The gnasher is probably my favourite shotgun actually and it's not an FPS.
I always liked the Half-life one too.
