not at early access stage yet but looks like Dean Hall, of DayZ fame, making a KSP-like

notes they were in the bidding to make KSP2 before the corpos chose differently. they chose poorly.
some of the KSP team and modders employed but i'm guessing they don't have access to the original code and in my mind that's a good thing, they did incredible things with KSP1 but they were learning on the job and the whole thing had a monumental technical debt, forcing clean slate could be good
