Kept meaning to get this due to the setting looking interesting, appearing on PS Plus Extra gave me the chance. Due to the setting suiting it went with Quality+RT over performance mode. Looked very pretty and any minor sluggishness (which I gather affects it in all modes anyway) was quickly adjustable too.
I liked the big open world and familiarity with the area helped too. Very pretty and the yokai design were cool. Sound design also fitted (played in Japanese) well. Gameplay was decent even if combat got a little repetitive at times. Vertical traversal was also fun. And I enjoyed the story for what it was. Did all of the new content from the recent update that was in the main story mode (all trophies in DLC bar the Spider's Thread roguelike mode one, which I have played a little and might be fine for quick blasts) and platinummed the game too, also getting all collectibles. Spent about 60 hours and think it worth a look if the setting appeals to you.
Maybe RE VIII next...

Started this when it came out and I was actually in Japan itself which was great. Got very far into it but then getting home and with work, other commitments and returning to games like Octopath above, was on hold for a bit.
Was a real surprise release and loved it. Great story and characters and they really nailed the tension and atmosphere.
Was going to maybe restart Triangle Strategy as I didn't get far into it and after Octopath, fancy some more of that stuff but Xenoblade DLC out on Tuesday...

Completed on normal, taking around 12 hours with 34% trophies. Game was pretty ajd fast paced, quite a different feel from what I recall of VII. Story was completely crazy, even by RE standards. Some sections were very interestingly done and not just standard combat scenarios. I enjoyed the story still. Got the gold edition so will play DLC tomorrow.

And done the DLC. An interesting take that worked better than it should have. Had some interesting sections added despite borrowing locations from the nain game. Worth a playthrough.

Technically completed this years ago on launch of the Gold Edition on PS4 (Oct 2018), but only did the non-canon ending and hadn't finished one of the DLC. After playing village it seemed like a good time to see the PS5 upgrade too. Fairly pretty but the odd low res texture still. The plot was less silly than Village isolation but less enemy variety than any other RE, bosses aside. Did the canon ending this time, again on normal though as plan to redo and finish all of the DLC too. I think I finished it quicker too despite remembering very little of the fine details, just the basic story beats and locations. 10 hours and 1 minute, managed to miss a third of the coins and half of the Mr.Everywheres and somehow missed 3/32 files... 45% base trophies.
Next the DLC.

Played through the Bedroom, Daughters, Not a Hero and End of Zoe DLCs (also played some Nightmare but not completed it yet) so bundled them as one.
Daughters is a fun little prequel to the main story and Bedroom is more of a puzzle (and likely non-canon). Both try to do something a little different with the formula and are worth a play (I had completed these before but redid as short).
Not a Hero I had also previously completed and it us more actiony and has some new creatures and locations and closes off a plot thread from the main game. Decent enough. End of Zoe I didn't finish first time so this is a first completion (and initially was all I was going to play). Very different play style but quite fun, and a new character for the story. The final boss was frustrating though. Overall they are worth a play. A lot more content than VIII got in its season pass though as that ignores the more mini game style Banned Footage entries. All finished on normal.
39% total trophies from all the DLCs (PSN combined score)

10: Coffee Talk (seriesX) beat on 27/04/23. 7/10
Wiki: The game follows a barista who is the owner and sole employee of Coffee Talk, the eponymous coffee shop, which is located in Seattle, Washington, in a fantasy version of the real world populated by a broad variety of fantasy races, such as elves, orcs, mermaids, and others.Various members of these races serve as the shop's patrons. The game's plot is experienced over the course of two weeks, with each day acting as a vignette in which various characters visit the coffee shop and discuss their concerns with the barista and with each other.
My words: Pretty good fun, although I did skip some dialog. I also played mainly to get the daily cheveo/50 game quest points.

Very good game and great effort to make a game feel like you're part of that universe.
Didn't see the 'true ending' as after five hours of grinding in the post game to get to the required level, I realised I did not have enough side quests left to get there so fuck only knows how you get that high a level. You need to be 34 and there is a trophy for 40, fuck off! Classic Warner game locking the real ending behind a ludicrous grind.
Now back to FFVI before Zelda next week!

I "finished" the game at lvl 29 and because I'm a stubborn stupid twat I "had" to get to lvl 34 to get the full FMV ending. I did this by mainly popping balloons, Merlin trails, stargazing and other such nonsense! I'm with you re having to grind to see the true ending and specifically grinding until 40 mind you!

Played through this on PS5's (NTSC 69hx) PS2 emulated version for convenience. 11:54 game time according to stats, sadly a rank E (too many saves I assume as I had plenty of ammo after using my knife for 80% of encounters...). 32% PSN trophies, 13/30 (most are for Battle Game which I feel no desire to try).
Game is obviously dated but tank controls worked surprisingly smoothly. And the OTT craziness of the plot felt a lot more grounded after playing Village recently. This is the first time I have played through the game despite owning it since launch on DC. Story was silly but fun and the locations were reasonable. Graphics looked nice enough for the time as first real-time rendered RE game. Steve is as annoying as everyone says. Felt like more enemy variety than some of the recent games too. Wasn't over challenging once you realised how good the knife is (along with plenty of heong items provided) saving tough weapons for the bosses, most of which were a pushover. Only 0 uncompleted now in the series, and maybe a replay of RE4 original to play the extra Ada stuff that wasn't in GC.
Not too far behind the weekly schedule so far too. Also still finishing Loopers.

wiki: Ghostwire: Tokyo is an action-adventure game played from a first-person perspective. The player can use various psychic and paranormal abilities to defeat the ghosts and spirits haunting Tokyo.
Me: Really enjoyed this, it did nothing specifically new or different to a lot of "free roaming" action adventures, but the setting and Japanese lore made it a great deal of fun. The only negetive is the pacing, chapter 1-4 are pretty meaty but 5-6 are over very quickly. The game has tons/too many side quests but of course you do or you don't. I spent about 20 hours so far, have the option to NG+ or carry on collecting items, outfits etc, I will probably tool about for a few hours yet as I enjoy the world so much.

Wahey! Finally finished VI after many attempts for about 20 years. Tbf, helps when there is a x4 XP modifier but after games like recent Trails entries come with turbo speed etc as standard, starting to think that all massive JRPGs that are grindfests like this should have them.
Anyway, Platinum too so saw everything, bosh! Plan to do the same with 1 through 5 at some point.
Finished perfectly in time for Zelda too, fuckin yes!

27 hours taken, all 4 endings and at least an A rank in all levels and side quests. 84% trophies, 40/46. Completed on normal.
Decided to have a change from Resident Evil (0 still to play) and thought this would be a quickish JRPG. Grabbed it for sub-20 quid after the demo had potential but wasn't a day 1 purchase. Despite being very different from the Valkyrie Profile games in gameplay I enjoyed this as a standalone game. The action combat was fun with flicking between weapons and einherjar. It is clearly a AA game bot a AAA game but is fairly pretty. Voices are decent enough in Japanese (didn't try English) bit the lip movements don't match the voices which was a touch offputting but I got used to it (and apparently they don't match the English dub either which is odd). The story was fairly simple and predictable bit I liked the characters and backstories.
Worth a playthrough. I will try the new bonus modes before moving on. Next will be Tales of Arise or the new Star Ocean I imagine, unless I choose something random or go on to RE0. My progress isn't too bad this year after a bad year last year in the challenge.

A hack'n'slash, nothing too fancy. I do hope the next two games in the trilogy are better though.

It's aged decently overall. It even still has a couple advantages over the remake.

Boomer shooter with a bit too much grey and brown.
Still looking for a 9/10 game here...

As incredible as you've heard. 65 hours and beat the final boss, absolutely mad to think there is likely another 100+ hours of content in there too. Might keep dipping in and out again to do side quests if I fancy.

Had made some good progress before Zelda and managed to power through the last of it, bosh!
Aiming to finish all the Pixel Remasters, which would then mean assuming XVI is beaten, I'll have completed all mainline FF games which would be pretty sweet.
Whilst I wait for XVI, back to Danganronpa v3 on Switch me thinks.

Valkyrie Elysium (PS5) (14/5/23) (8/10) 16. Death end re;Quest (PS4 on PS5) (12/6/23) (6.5/10)
Decided to have a change on saw Death end re;Quest on PS Plus Extra, I had heard it was a fairly dark story and also had the writer of the Corpse Party series (that I enjoy). As a bonus it was suppoaed to be fairly short. Official in game time of 43 hours getting both normal and true endings (adds up to around 50 hours with all the bad ends I collected on the way). 60% (28/39 trophies).
Technically the game is a bit scrappy, the camera just feels 'unsmooth' although I imagine it is running at a solid 30fps. Graphically is fairly basic with a few interesting looking boss enemies. The VN sections have decent enough art with a few stand out pieces. The story was compelling enough to keep me playing despite the gameplay being flawed but wasn't a patch on the CP games. I did stop for a week thinking I had hit a massive difficulty spike going for the true end which turned lut to be the game randomly unequipping all of my characters. Fairly smooth sailing after that. Played on normal, difficulty is uneven, with dungeons in second half having regular encounters tougher than moat of their bosses. The final true boss was a cinch too.
Combat system is odd with full real-time unlimited movement before you make an action (or hit an effect tile) but is clunky with aiming attacks etc with area of effects, lines etc. Seems to get all character endings I need to do an NG+ playthrough, may see how simple it is and give up if too time consuming. The game does have unnecessary NSFW fan service (a couple of VN scenes which aren't the worst in the genre (Danganronpa having worse) but the glitch scenes (powered up mode in combat that you actually want to use) are a bit much...
I don't regret playing it but there are aot more interesting games to play through. Elsewhere nearly finished Loopers (I think) and enjoying Humanity. May play Star Ocean or Tales of Arise as next JRPG, or play an adventure game instead. Also want to play through Stasis:Bone Totem which is out now on PC. Still behind on my 52 games...

Tales of Arise was really good. I can recommend that one. Having already played through the first chapter when I first bought it gives me a nice head start too I seem to recall it not being over-long from reviews too...

Feels a bit cheaty but it came on a cartridge so... I finally got around to finishing Loopers, which is a kinetic novel with minimal gameplay. Story is by the Higurashi/Umineko author but is tamer than I hear those are (not played them, this is my first game by him). Story is an anime groundhog day with a big focus on geo-hunting. The story is quite well told and paced with a few twists and turns on the way. Art is nice and the characters are pretty decent overall with no-one I hated too much (the more potentially annoying characters are less featured in the story). Not much more I can really say but I enjoyed it, even if it isn't one of the greats.
Currently playing FFXVI (and the odd bout of Humanity) on PS5, may play Mothmen next on Switch, and to my shame I still need to start Bone Totem... Well under target at present...

Played this on PS Plus extra (I initially mixed it up with a strategy game (was there a Humankind?). Trailer looked interesting so gave it a bash. Action puzzler with a lot of changes in gameplay style but timately involving helping to get dozens, hundreds or thousands of little dopey humans to an exit (and collecting some gold giants on the way). (Think 3D Lemmingsish) Some levels were very clever, a few were a bit too random chance, but overall a decent selection, even if some of the later chapters are easier than some of the early ones. Graphics are clean and lots of humans on screen at once with decent performance (despite being made in Unity). Story wasn't too bad as well. Also has a level editor and custom levels to play but not looked at that side. Really enjoyed it and played it on and off, doing all levels with all goldies, taking 19 hours according to my PS5 with 86% trophies (41/46) A nice surprise for a game I knew nothing about.
Mainly playing FFXVI on PS5, not started a new Switch game yet...

A good day yesterday with finishing off several games. I had spoilt the "pay off" somewhat by taking sometimes years to complete, due to not playing for many months at a time, a habit I need to get out off. I used to play one or maybe two max "single player/story" driven games to completion/abandoning for good before moving on. I need to get back into doing this. I loved Fallout and still have many quests to start let alone complete, Stray was very charming and Control had great gunplay but I did not care for the map or the die and repeat gameplay. I may start a ng+ and actually try to playthrough in a week or two.
Onward and upward, next completion should be Elex 2 I would think.
