So something that's been in the back of my mine and Mrs Mercury's mind, I guess in particular after the start of the Covid palava, we (the UK and pretty much anywhere it seems) seem to be living on a knife edge with regards to just how fragile our food/supplies line is. It seems within only a day or so we may run out of bog roll, eggs, milk or whatever, it stands to reason I'd never thought about it pre-covid but it makes sense, we simply don't and never will have any kind of stockpiles of any staple goods there's simply so much demand.
So we've been vaguely thinking about getting some supplies in, there's a large part of me that just dismisses it as a 'what's the point' exercise but we seem to be living in a scary and fractured time, I just don't know, it seems foolhardy not to at least have something in place. It wouldn't take too much for us to store say 300l of water, 200 cans of beans and some bogroll in the garage etc or whatever, perhaps enough to survive for a week or so. I don't expect us to be able to survive the apocalypse but who knows what's around the corner? Any thoughts?

Best Dome is either the Eden Project or Il Duomo.

There’s also a wing place near here called Wing Dome but they’re not very good.

How are you going to heat those beans and boil water for your rice and pasta? From recent experience don't use butane, at least in sub zero temperatures. Boiling point is -2⁰C so it's fuck all use at -6⁰C. Propane is what you want there, but that's more dangerous I believe.

Dunno, not given any of that any thought tbh (though beans can be eaten cold of course), just musing really but it is something we've talked about at home.

I think the preppers miss a trick by expecting to be able to survive the apocalypse, when really they should be preparing the cleanest and quickest way to end it all.

Should have browsed something else while I was treating myself to a new year's sit down wee.

Well you see that's generally where I was for quite a while but Mrs Mercury has got me thinking, if things kick off but not quite an apocalypse then some supplies might not come amiss. Think I may have said on this forum before I'd considered how to end things if the worst should ever actually happen.

Isn't freddie the one who thought about the quickest way to kill his kids "if it came to it?"

Toilet paper up the nostrils and then fill their mouths with beans. It's humane and dignified

Isn't freddie the one who thought about the quickest way to kill his kids "if it came to it?" 200 tins of out of date beans ought to do it.

Doomsday tip: save space by taking only 1 bean and growing the rest 👍 We're talking about Domesday here. Totally different thing. Something to do with celebrating domes I think.

I don't expect us to be able to survive the apocalypse but who knows what's around the corner? Any thoughts? I've also been thinking along these lines the last few months. The infrastructure here in my small town in Ireland is appalling, so having water bottles put aside makes sense. I'm also close to hoarding long life products, like tinned goods, cured meats etc. And I also have had a machete, flint and knife in an online shopping cart fairly recently, but didn't pull the trigger. I also am going to look at decent tarps, and sleeping bags. I also already have two bows in the house. Maybe having kids put these thoughts in my mind, but we would be absolutely fucked if anything happened. I'd also get a tripod for hanging a pot over a campfire. My and Freddy will have the last laugh when the worst happens. I'll light the gas from his bean-fueled farts to start my camo fires, and have a feast of instant noodles under the stars

I have a sleeveless studded denim jacket with a chain attached, so I'm ready to join some sort of post-apocalyptic raider gang.

I wish I still had my wallet that had the wallet chain.
No mohawked former Jehovas Witness would be stealing it then.
